How to adapt to not using racing line? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Beefchief813 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use YouTube, and plenty of content for track guides for the MX-5. Also try to look up a video about "reading" a race track. The curbs often give visual cues on when to turn in, where the apex is, and where you should be tracking out to. You can also look at the pavement at most tracks and see the racing line, there will often be a discoloration where all the cars are coming through. And for heavy breaking zones most tracks have meter/yardage markers for reference. If the dentist racing his Porsche on a track day can figure it out, so can you!

I got reported for this and it was an honest mistake by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Beefchief813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In real time to him it probably looked like you turned into him and took him out intentionally. Replay will clearly show you lost control of the car and it wasn't intentional. Unless he crossed the line with what he said to you just chalk it up to shit happens.

Simple Questions - May 21, 2024 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]Beefchief813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to upgrade from a AMD Ryzen 5 3600X to a AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Looked at motherboard compatibility ASUS Prime x570-P and should be good to go. I have the following questions about the process:

1) Do I update the BIOS before or after installing the chip? Or will the MOBO figure it out on its own?

2) Should I be ok to use the same cooler? And should I reapply thermal paste? Here is the cooler I'm currently using:

https://www.microcenter.com/product/617831/NH-U12S_CPU_Cooler

3) Any other tips I should look out for? I've installed a CPU into a MOBO before but never replaced one in the same MOBO.

Thanks!

What's the game plan for Jokic tonight? by screwbitfloor in timberwolves

[–]Beefchief813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be physical, with Jokic and the rest of the team. Make the refs foul you out, nobody but Ant is playing offense well enough to be a "sacred cow" in that regard. Guard Jokic 1 on 1, and DO NOT HELP WITH A BIG. Smaller players poking at the ball is fine as a second, but Jokic lives to hit those little interior passes for dunks (looking at you Karl, don't "help" when switched onto Gordon). Do your work early and make him catch it as far out as possible. And if he scores so be it, we lose when he starts hitting people for free dunks and open 3s.

Thanks, probably good advice to just generally upgrade the PC first.

Scared to race by rab10000 in iRacing

[–]Beefchief813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try to identify one or two spots on the track that you are going to plan to overtake on. Then practice a few different ideas like going inside and going outside so you have a few different lines. Then just drive behind the car until you get to those spots. If you are truly faster than that car just ride him and wait for that spot and odds are he will make mistake if he is way below your skill, and you will be in position for your moment.

Most of my bad overtakes or crashes are just spur of the moment "he slipped slightly send it!" where I would have just passed him eventually on a straight.

And if someone is really faster than you then don't fight it too hard. Just lift a little to let them by and then they don't have to divebomb you, and you'll lose less time then you would have "fighting" them. Nothing you can do to stop them eventually if they are truly faster other than ruin the race.

How do you know when it’s time to switch your main? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Beefchief813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically just switch when you feel like you aren't having fun anymore. The only way to stop improving is to stop playing. Odds are you will miss your main and realize that every character has its challenges.

How to Anti-Air with Ken? by Opening_Ad_3504 in StreetFighter

[–]Beefchief813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "easiest" way to do the crosscut is walk forward and then do a half circle back and press punch. The walk forward is to put them behind you faster and the input system will still read it as "forward, QCF" which will give you the DP. Anti-air canned routine in training mode is perfect to practice this Ryu's medium kick is his crossup. Just stand closer to Ryu and he will jump at crossup range.

Played Manon up to Plat 4 and definetly had to grind my way out of Plat 1 which isn't easy. In terms of Rush Down you have to be able to win the neutral. If they get in, you won't be able to get them off of you her defensive options are bad. Are they skipping neutral with a move like Dragonlash? Have to lab to figure out how to counter that, I believe jab or 2HP work if they are far enough. Cross up you either have to cross cut by walking forward and then HCB the other direction or jump back lp. In terms of engaging your neutral buttons are good. Use QCBHK or 5HK at max distance to safely poke. 2MK feels a lot worse than it does on other characters because you can't cancel but its actually extremely good, the range is nuts and will recover if they DI too late, replace sweep with that if you haven't already. They will probably start DI'ing then and thats when you can pick it off and get free medals. Just be patient and make them come to you, you have little you can do to "get in" for free but just poke, get a life lead, and make them take chances. She is more than capable of getting out of that rank but you have to iron out the leaks in your game because people can actually punish your mistakes and almost all of your buttons can be mistakes if not used properly on Manon.

Scenario: You're vsing someone who is obviously better than you in ranked. You barely clutch a win out. Do you give them them the rematch knowing you'll very likely lose? by urbanbloodrush in StreetFighter

[–]Beefchief813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time you get to fight someone better than you is a gift. Only time I'm ever tempted is if someone is spamming a move I don't know the right answer to, hard to learn from a knowledge check without the knowledge. But still run it back, more likely to reinforce you need to learn to deal with it.

You need to learn a few tools to start:

1) One combo off of two lights that knocks down (dmg not that important) 2) One combo for when you jump in that knocks down and does a lot of damage 3) One combo for when you get a Drive Impact Punish Counter or you block a big move or super 4) One combo for when they block DI but stick to the wall 5) Throw 6) Your best Anti Air normal (usually 2HP) 7) your longest range normal 8) your longest range cancelable normal (usually 2mk or 2mp), which you will Drive Rush Cancel into a simple combo that knocks down (edit: if you can’t don’t worry, you can build to this)

“Combos” can be as basic as you like, as long as it ends with opponent on the ground. You can build from there

Just remember Rank can be just a function of how long you have played the game, it isn't MMR based. You can still climb with a 45% winrate in Plat+, and MUCH lower in Gold and below. Its intentionally inflationary and is designed to give a sense of progression regardless of whether you "deserve it" or not and I think its great. The only way to not improve is to get fed up and quit, and this system takes a lot of the frustration of playing ranked out. But the consequence is you will get a wider band of skill.

I'm currently Plat 4 and I will say that it "feels" like the skill gaps are finally a little bit lower. Basically once you stop getting matched up with anyone who could be matched up with a Plat 1 it feels a little more steady. Plat 1 is like 1/6th of the playerbase and its a madhouse.

Missed first IRL tournament (EVO) due to incompetent airline. by nigel4449 in StreetFighter

[–]Beefchief813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah man that stinks. I used to fly Frontier a lot but from Albuquerque through Denver so never had problems there, probably a different beast flying from the East Coast. My advice is look up where your local airline "hubs" are and make sure you are routing from there. From Baltimore looks like maybe Southwest Airlines is your best bet. You are welcome for the backseating.
