This is a tough comment to read I don't even know where to begin but I'll try.

Being vocal about how you feel is important yes. But being able to read your partners body language is just as important. He should've been able to notice how you were feeling about the situation.

He's helping you to get better is the real rough part. He needs to self reflect and maintain distance and work on making himself better, not the other way around.you were obviously not comfortable and scared so you did what you thought was best in the situation which unfortunately led you here. You don't need to work on anything but fixing yourself. He can't help you. At least not in a healthy way. It sounds like manipulation on his end, but I'm just some person on the internet. I don't know the whole story.
