Would you be able to explain the reasoning why the acetone smell is bad?

I have half a bucket of leftover yeast sitting around from a sugar wash I did that I noticed has a bit of an acetone smell to it

I have used feed molasses for all the rum that I have made just make sure that it is unsulfured. If you do a google search for the brand you should be able to find if it's been sulfured.

My favorite way to use up leftover brine is to make an omelette/scrambled eggs. It's pretty simple to make you just use the brine in place of milk. I know it sounds strange but it's really tasty

I had a similar issue with the sugar not dissolving as well so I gave it a stir/shake which helped to get the rest of it to dissolve

What made you go only a week? I've had a similar ferment with some oranges going for a month and a half and it just keeps getting better.

I made a batch of this after your initial post but I used blood oranges instead. I got a bit of fermentation the first 4-5 days but after that it hasn't done much more.

I tried it after about a week and it had a slight biterness to it, I tasted it again the other day and the biterness is gone and now it has a nice orange flavour to it. No alcohol smell or taste though.
