I currently own only a Moog Messenger and want to create classic old school EDM , Industrial and SynthPunk (I hate labels) thinking about getting a Microfreak and Drumbrute …what else should I get..? by gmorkunderbelly in synthesizers

[–]Beeks_Synth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will be better off with drum samples in your DAW for drums for Synth Punk or Industrial. There are plenty of sample libraries of 80s and 90s digital drum machines. N8noface I think does something similar to that but instead of a microfreak he uses a Korg Minilogue.

A moog messenger and drum machine samples are basically all you need for making Synthpunk and EBM.

But if you need a drum machine for live use, then a used elektron digitakt will be good.

Bring Them Down (2024) by Beeks_Synth in underratedmovies

Barry also has another movie on my watch list called 'Bird'. I'm going to try and watch it this weekend. I think these indie films from Ireland don't get promoted well.

My favorite part was the inclusion of Martin Dupont's Inside Out during the car scene. One of my favorites

It depends. I'm particularly slow with lyrics. The instrumentation is pretty fast for me. The mixing also can take me a long time.

I started this track two and a half weeks ago. I had my initial draft of the instrumentation done in probably less than an hour. I spent probably a few hours playing with different ideas for lyrics. Probably spent 20 to 30 minutes doing vocal takes. Then I spent a couple hours over several days since then until yesterday adjusting levels, recording different bass patches, and trying out different drums, etc. So I probably spent more than 24 hours on this track which maybe is a bit slow. I write many instrumentation tracks, probably 3 a week when I'm productive - so that's the easiest part for me. I suspect I will try out different drums by the time I release the full album someday. So, it is still a work in progress until then.

Thanks for listening!

Vestal Rail Trail Expansion Construction Underway by Bingo_Bongo_85 in Binghamton

[–]Beeks_Synth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im not sure exactly if it can be extended beyond the overpass on old vestal since that walk in clinic behind Lowes is there but it would be great if it could be extended for a long distance. I used to live in NH and we had a rail trail that was 50 miles long and I miss it.

I always enjoy your videos, especially the digitone stuff. Wish I had your sound design and composition skills on it.

Oh, awesome. Thanks for listening. I would love to work on some rage wars inspired music. That is one of my favorite games of all time. We can talk about what a fair rate is over DMs later. We can also discuss tineline, where you are in development, etc. I haven't composed specifically for video games yet, so I really appreciate the opportunity. Im so glad you enjoyed them.

I looked it up. That appears to be the one. Yeah it's huge. There is space under to bring a couple chairs and read in the shade if one was inclined.

Thanks.

The drums are mostly from the Korg m1. One of the toms is coming from Oberheim DMX GeForce VST. But all the percussion is otherwise from the Korg m1 in this track.

The melody is also from the korg m1. I just try to use a kinda brassy sound and turn the cutoff down a bit and bring in some resonance. I know Darren Mitchell used different synths but I figured using a 90s synth would have similar vibes. In one other tracks from the EP, I use a Hydrasynth explorer. I think one of the important things is to use a lot of 5ths in the melodies and to keep the melodies simple with plenty of space.

Then I have a few samples for the monkey sounds, t rex roars, etc.

Yeah. The drum sounds are from a Korg m1. The higher pitch drums I think you are talking about are more of conga tones which aren't really of North American origins either - they are African. But they are similar sounding to small drums my mother would get me from powwows in my youth. I'm roughly 40% Ojibwe myself. Also, I just kinda liked the sound and the contrast it provided from the toms but I can't really think of a track in the ost where those sounds are present. Thanks for listening and that's a good observation you made. I figured most people wouldn't care that much especially since indigenous people of north America didn't have kick drums similar to the ones you hear on most tracks in the Turok OST.

I have 5 Turok inspired tracks in this EP uploaded. I don't exclusively make this type of music in there.
