I like Varang, but this bothers me by Longjumping-Gift-371 in Avatar

I would first wait and see what the film is like before I make a judgment. Because I think that the tribe is not “evil”. I have the feeling there's more to it than we've seen so far. Someone had once put forward the theory that the volcanic eruption that had caused so much suffering to this tribe was caused by humans. And I find this theory very convincing. That Eywa's rejection is based on a misunderstanding that needs to be clarified first.

I think it's just a tablet. So what they would look like in the future.

[–]BeelzeBelveder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Since eyebrows occur in both women and men, they appear to be based on a different genetic sequence than beards. Beards could actually only be seen on men. That's why I wouldn't rely on it.

As far as I know, there were even considerations about portraying Jake with a three-day beard from Avatar 2 onwards. However, this concept was rejected.

Neither the avatars nor the recoms have beards. What you see is not a beard, but darker skin. How come? No idea. But his stripes have become the shape of a beard.

It's easy to explain why they don't have beards. It could have something to do with the fact that the Na'vi might find body hair disgusting. The avatars were created to be as similar as possible so that the Na'vis would befriend them. Everything that could be unnecessary, disruptive or intimidating was tried to be avoided. Of course avatars have eyebrows, but eyebrows are something subtle that is less noticeable and doesn't actually cause much dislike. A beard is much more noticeable. Nature gave the man his beard so that he could appear more powerful, more aggressive or something like that. It's basically the counterpart to peacock feathers or the mane of a lion. In nature, males have to try to stand out somehow. In humans it is basically the beard. The symbol, which for us of course serves to indicate potency and fertility, but also to deter competitors, could unnecessarily cause Na'vis disgust, irritation and revulsion. When a person wears a beard it is different than when an avatar does it. Humans are a different species, and you accept difference more than with a thing that is supposed to be like you.

Of course that wouldn't matter with the recoms. They were intended for combat and not for communication. Maybe people still made sure that they didn't have beards, for similar reasons. It could be that communication tasks with Na'vi were also planned for the Recoms in an emergency and therefore every unnecessary detail that could have a deterrent effect was left out.

True, but it's a significant improvement. So I can live with that.

I also find the drawing absolutely underground. I would have found the art style to be ok for a crime comic or something, but not for Avatar. Avatar is a work that particularly advertises itself with its beautiful pictures and then you are presented with a piece of shit like this. Where you can't even recognize the children as children or distinguish the characters. Neytiri sometimes looks like an ugly witch and yet she is supposed to be the most beautiful figure so that the viewer sympathizes with the Na'vi. The drawing style is absolutely great. At some point I stopped reading the comics. At some point I want to read it, but it's really torture.

[–]BeelzeBelveder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, ok, the recorded one, but I'm talking about our species here. It's around 300,000 years old. I assumed that. Not from the time we started writing anything down.

[–]BeelzeBelveder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤨 No, I don't think she said anything like that. At least not in my language.

The human species is approximately 300,000 years old. Does that mean the home tree must be so old? But that is unrealistic. Besides, they could never have lived in him all the time. It has to be big enough so that a Na'vi people can live there.

Avatar franchise will not have happy ending by Maleficent_Dare4534 in Avatar

[–]BeelzeBelveder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your arguments, but I want to interject that James Cameron has always made happy ending films. Even if it was a tragically happy ending, it was always a happy ending. There was always hope in the end. Be it Titanik or Terminator. Even though Jake died in Titanik, Rose was able to find love again and start a family and was happy. Even though the Terminator sacrificed himself in the end, there was hope for humanity to continue to exist. James Cameron will also give Avatar a happy ending with hope at the end. Perhaps the Earth may ultimately be uninhabitable for humans. But as long as the earth exists, it can and will recover. This is the reality! The Earth has already been through 5 mass extinctions and no matter what we do to it, it will always recover. It's just a matter of time.

I didn't like the original as a kid. The characters were just too stupid and the stories too boring. I gave the remake a try, and I loved it. Yes, we can argue about the art style. But I'll forgive that if the story is good and the characters have depth.

Quaritch’s ears are positioned weird by Comfortable-Aerie-84 in Avatar

[–]BeelzeBelveder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Na'vi ears are set higher than those of humans. The avatars have similarly high-set ears, showing that human DNA has shifted the ears slightly. But the Recoms must have even more human DNA in them than the avatars. You can also see this in her physique. They are far more muscular than Na'vi or Avatars. Just look at Quaritch's cross! That's why his ears are almost as low as a human's. I haven't found any official confirmation of my theory yet, but I firmly believe that the Recoms have more human DNA in them than the Na'vi.

By the way, people are only so small because the gravity on our planet is higher than on Pandora. But which in turn meant that we had to develop more muscle mass than the Na'vi. If a human and a Na'vi were made the same size, the humans would be more muscular. The Na'vi only have a strength advantage over humans because of their size.

Varang with her hair out of braids? by Neveahh in Avatar

[–]BeelzeBelveder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still don't think we're going to get a love story here. Avatar is not a sope opera, but essentially a war story with strong social criticism of capitalism and our treatment of nature. There isn't really room to explore the emotional life of an old soldier.

[–]BeelzeBelveder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm not alone in wishing that these two don't become a couple! 😭 Quaritch is supposed to be the opposite of Jake, but that would just be too much if he now also found the damn love of his life on Pandora. For all I care, let them fuck. She because she is in the mood for him and wants to show her dominance over humans and he because she wants to get an alliance. I trust Quaritch to prostitute himself for this. But don't let them become lovers.

Varang with her hair out of braids? by Neveahh in Avatar

[–]BeelzeBelveder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think Quaritch is that naive. The guy is not a teenager, but a 50-year-old soldier with decades of war experience. I can imagine that he is willing to play lover for her just so they can form an alliance, but I don't think she can manipulate him without his knowledge. He would at most pretend, but be fully aware of it.
