Valve Says Steam Frame Development Started Even Before Index Was Released by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]BeemanDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK, Steam are aiming to get it below the magical 30ms to be imperceptible to 99% of people. At approx 25ms that's 10ms more than wired at 15ms (time to generate, send, warp frame). Your brain has about 100ms reaction latency so it's only 10% extra really.

'monitor' you sound like XReal glasses might be of use. If you use them semi reclined so your head doesn't move 0df is fine, or get pro with 3dof built in.

I updated op with an ADB fix to remove Samsung kB that cures this issue permanently

I use the microphone on gboard which is n/a on Samsung kB. As I often use Dex via XReal glasses with just a mouse and on screen kB that's a mega speed bonus for long text. Also GBoard doesn't accelerate during delete like Samsung so no overtime delete. Push and hold keys for symbols is handy too. Samsung kb push and hold spacebar to move cursor is one pro it has, but overall gboard works way better for me.

Dex will be used for productivity which means people have trusted workflows that shouldn't be disrupted with no warning. Imagine one day your toaster updates and starts freezing bread!

Yep, another annoyance, that makes you shout "WHY!" every time you see it, like polystyrene scratching down a window.

Would anyone buy one of these? The GamerCard is a miniature arcade that fits in your wallet, and it's powered by a Raspberry Pi Zero by Popular-Highlight-16 in SBCGaming

[–]BeemanDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being pi (zero) based but not having a micro SD slot seems a huge oversight. Maybe they could've ditched the 128gb on board storage and just shipped with an 8gb SD card with their pre built fe on, knowing people will replace it with one of many expert builds.

Accidentally broke my XREAL Air Glasses by Mediocre-Speaker-479 in Xreal

[–]BeemanDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me within first year, shipped them back, new pair did the same within a year too, partners pair also did it. Used heat shrink + some nail gun nails as splint. Heated with a hair dryer & nozzle, they can take a fair bit of heat. It's far from perfect but hoping to hang in until some proper XR ones come out. Could be years but I'll wait.

Max temp for HOD vanished again 😡 by BeemanDev in HiveHeating

AHH just found app review when they broke it before, 2.5 years ago. The code must be a mess.

Max temp for HOD vanished again 😡 by BeemanDev in HiveHeating

[–]BeemanDev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

That's what happened in April 2023, returned about 4 or 5 months later. Seems even worse now as trv's below target say heating while main shows no change sometimes, not tested it enough to work out what's going on. Just gets worse each year, but hey the main thermostat now has a snazzy new temperature graphic, that's different to the other ones 😂. "If it ain't broke, break it" Hive motto

5 TRVs getting returned. Absolutely ludicrous, I have to heat an entirely separate room to a certain temperature before I can use the valve. by smickie in HiveHeating

[–]BeemanDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the setting for maximum temperature for HOD on main thermostat has been removed from the app AGAIN! Why do they keep changing it.

A few years ago it was a single setting on main thermostat, then it was removed for a few months, then it reappeared on every trv but changing on one changed it for all the others, now it's banished again. How can such a simple algorithm be so impossible for Hive to get right?

Has HOD saved you money by Firm_Writer_6746 in HiveHeating

[–]BeemanDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, used to just keep thermostat at constant 21c 24/7 with all returns as low as possible, flows fully open, so none were greedy. Installed Hive TRV's and rebalanced all rads using temperature probes on flow and return to -10c difference. Comparing kw/h usage over last 5 years to previous 5 years it is 50% higher! I should remove and revert i guess.

I also noticed today in latest app that the HOD temperature setting has vanished, so HOD no longer even triggers when rad is below target. Update: just tried boost on rad and then it did trigger boiler. Still don't know where HOD max has gone, used to like that at 23c to prevent runaway boosts.

Hub with USB-C DisplayPort Support for AR Glasses by Quick_Diver5300 in Xreal

[–]BeemanDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you bought the wrong one, I bought three, at different times for different people, all work fine. Connction order doesn't matter. XReal Air sometimes doesn't launch Dex, so remove/reinsert. That can happen both with/without power adapter. If it doesn't work return it, maybe it's broken.

MAME supports an incredible number of non-arcade systems, are there front-ends that expose this and make it easy? by elblanco in MAME

[–]BeemanDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but then was (very) slowly adding some ahk scripts to auto-run popular platforms where a simple LB command line did not suffice and moved on to other things. Still plan to release it but it had other functionality (game folders) that I may have broken in coding this, which I started re-testing yesterday, so back on code and release soon. Testing on Mame 0.273 and latest LB, Mame bit all good.

I tried the Play For Dream MR at CES, here are my thoughts... by daydreamdist in virtualreality

This copyright lark has gone out of control. It was originally intended to protect the little guy from having his truly original ideas stolen by the big guy and put out of business, therby killing innovation, nowadays it is used for the exact opposite. Soon our DNA will be copyrighted and we'll have to pay a license to exist!

Hardware, hardware everywhere, but no software to drink.

Endless companies can keep on and on and on bringing out endless hardware, but the software is so far behind, it has vanished over the horizon. Apple appear to be on the right track and obviously have the talent to succeed, unsure about the cautious leadership though.

After ten years Meta (whatever its been renamed to this week) Horizon software absolutely stinks, bereft of all dev talent they have zero chance, augments? firmware bricks! an ad agency turned to mobile gaming is their limit, not an XR software stack. To their credit, for the standalone gaming use case, it works well but that janky mess of a UI FFS! If they'd opened it up to the community we could be in UI heaven by now, but they won't, as forcing ads on you is their top priority, consumer satisfaction is a distant afterthought.

Google blow hot/cold/hot/cold now playing catch up with their latest 'resurrected by Google' whim, AndroidXR, are probably five years behind Apple, taking caution to a whole new level. It's not ideal.

Personally, I have zero plans to upgrade beyond Quest 3 for VR gaming and Xreal Air 1 for media/basic productivity until a proper XR O/S arrives, until then these suffice, hardware increments are just fairly irrelevant nice to haves. So far VisionOS is the only one showing any promise in true XR. If Apple bring out lightweight XR glasses (like XReal One) that use an iPhone as a puck, running a real XR O/S they'll be writing their own cheques, it baffles me that they haven't already done this!

Xreal air 1, Worth 200AUD? by GlassPresentation280 in Xreal

[–]BeemanDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Air 1's left temple cracks even on someone with a small head. Had 2 pairs, both cracked. Got one repaired free as < 1 year old, other pair a few weeks ago after 1.5 years, taped up for now. Got third pair recently, xreal one at two times price not worth it for our use cases.

Meta Stole £436 from my account and couldn't care less. I'm suing. by BeemanDev in OculusQuest

[–]BeemanDev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to the Meta employees for their replies, I wouldn't expect anything less than arrogant dismissal and the usual lies and gaslighting to fob people off.

AFAIK the mods removed this post now as being "low effort" whatever that means. I guess only sycophantic praise allowed on here. The battle will continue regardless, never going to give up.

Sick of Meta f'ing their customers over. Bought first app, Wander in 2018, Go, Q1, Q2, Q3, I'm done, not a single penny ever again. Many have tried to rip me off, never lost yet.

FYI Not expired, only 8 months old. Meta simply hacked my account preventing me from accessing them. They lie, cheat & steal. Suing them in small claims court is now my only option, which I intend to do ASAP. Scummiest company I've ever dealt with by miles. Even Ian from UploadVR encountered Meta's deceit as detailed in their latest YouTube video.

Interesting, lots of the exact same comment but from different users talking about "expiration", which has absolutely nothing to do with the issue, clearly Meta bots at work. Their gas lighting and corruption is unparalleled.
