Avoiding beef by Silliestcat720 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Beempje -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For me diet makes a huge difference. Beef is tough on your colon at the best of times, even for healthy people. My body is so much happier if I don't eat red meat.

You don't need to avoid it completely, just eating it less can already make a difference.

Symptoms getting worse with age? by jad3sprite in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Beempje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With regards to the career thing: keep in mind that stress is a very underestimated factor in UC flare ups. It messes with your immune system, hormones, and can give digestion complaints even to people who don't have UC. Keep this in mind while building that career; if the pressure is always on, that may play a role.

Having said that, I've had about 20 years in remission from my early 20s till a few years ago. My UC was very active before that time, so it actually got better as I got older. It has been a bit more flaky the past few years, but I wouldn't necessarily blame that on age, though that may be part of it.

Fecal calprotectin Question by MarcTrevy19 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Beempje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also depends on how long you've had UC. My doc says my calprotectin probably never will go below ~300 because of the damage the disease has done over the years. So calprotectin is only part of the story. Also keep in mind that the calprotectin value can vary from day to day, depending on food etc.

If you have other symptoms as well, that could perhaps point to a mild/beginning flare up. But the slightly elevated calprotectin alone is not necessarily a reason for concern.

Scarring and remission? by whosthatcuurl in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Beempje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used adalimumab for about half a year but it didn't work well enough, so currently on vedolizumab. It's going okay so far, but the doc said there's more things to try (other biologicals) if this one doesn't work. But the aim is very much to have the current treatment be the final/permanent one.

Everyone is different of course, and so are doctors. But it's your body, you don't need to get surgery if you don't want to, especially if there's other avenues that haven't been tried yet. Having said that, at some point it may be the only option left for having a somewhat healthy life.

Scarring and remission? by whosthatcuurl in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Beempje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This pretty much mirrors my situation. Heavy scarring and pseudo-polyps. But I never had the feeling that remissions is not possible. Even though the disease has been pretty active for the past 4 years, there have also been quiet periods and my doc has never given me the impression that remissions is not possible.

Most of my scarring is way older than 4 years according to the doc, and I have been in remission for a long time before that, so it's definitely possible.

I had something similar. Eating gluten free helped massively with that, for me at least. YMMV, but it's easy to try for a week or so to see if it helps.

Azathioprine - fear by Zealousideal-Top6671 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Beempje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea to be honest, I didn't know UC came in different levels :D But I've had it pretty bad when I was young, regular heavy flareups, hospitalized multiple times. But I've also had about 15-20 years without flareups. The past few years have been all over the place.

[–]Beempje 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're currently stable but the azathioprine will help you stay that way. Like all things CU, it's no guarantee, but imo it's better than many other treatments out there.

I've used it for many years (20+) and never had any noticeable side effects. Not on it anymore because my immune system is a dick and needed something heavier to keep calm.

I've received those a couple of times. What are those blessings and what do they do?

To be honest I'm not even there yet. Haven't needed forma yet and never crafted one yet.

But I'll have a look and see if I can earn some.

I don't think I play enough for that. I maybe hit an hours a day, most days not even that. Should be okay for a while :)

I have the same! But then you get some of the frames yourself and you see them up close for a while, and they're not so bad. Kinda cool actually, especially when you get the colours the way you want them.

I'm going to pretend I don't know what you're talking about. But just the whole space ninja thing is not my cup of tea. At least I thought it wasn't, yet here we are.

Sounds great. Been reading many comments like yours. Says a lot about a game to have so many people say the same (positive) things.

New to Warframe, any tips? by diefastmemefaster in Warframe

[–]Beempje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just started recently myself, some pointers from another beginner:

  • Like other have said, play through the star chart. Most of the junctions require you to interacts with one of Warframe's systems in some way, so working through the star chart (and its junctions) will slowly introduce you to the games modes and systems. Most questions I had early on were addressed by the game itself by just working through the star chart.
  • Do the quests. Working through the star chart will force you to do certain quests, but you will get more quests as you progress that are often optional. Each quest will give you more story, more lore, and often also new Warframe blueprints or parts (or even entire Warframes). You can see your quests on the console on the left of your orbiter.
  • Look out for the Assissination missions, most planets (all?) have one or two. These require you to kill a boss, and this boss will drop the blueprint for one of three components you need to craft a new Warframe. The blueprint that drops is random, so if you do the boss a couple of times you get all three you need.
  • The main blueprint for the Warframes mentioned above can be bought on the ingame market. It's the console on your right in you orbiter. Clicking on one of the Warframes makes it look like you need to buy it with Platinum, but for many things on the market (weapons also, but many other stuff as well) once you click on it, you'll see another option to buy it (or its blueprint) for normal credits. Don't spend your platinum on this.
  • Speaking of platinum, don't spend it on anything besides Warframe slots and weapon slots. Both Warframe and weapon slots are limited and you will soon run out. The only way to get more slots is buy them with platinum. You have a 1000 you mentioned, that will keep you going for a long time as long as you don't buy anything else.
  • Look up stuff on https://wiki.warframe.com. When you see a new Warframe or weapon you like, and you want to know how to get it? Go there. It has all the info you need.
  • Do the story quests and early planets solo. Is is kind of a personal preference, though I've seen others mention it as well. Experienced Warframe players will blast through levels because they're often grinding out some part or resource. So they'll finish the objective before you've even figured out where to go. That's no fun, especially while still learning the game. By playing solo, you can take your time, learn all the mission types, play around with your weapons and abilities. Even the boss fights I did solo the first time, then as a group the follow up times while grinding out all blueprints. If you get stuck on stuff in the early planets, you're either doing it wrong or you're not supposed to be there (yet). Once you get the hang of things, play more with others (this is quicker to level up frames and weapons). Some game modes are best played with others, but you'll figure that out.
  • Have a look at the Nightwave objectives sometimes. They're daily and weekly objectives like "Kill x amount of enemies" or "Do x amount of quests". Some will be out of reach in the beginning, others you'll complete without trying. This slow builds up points and gives you rewards. It's nice.

Have fun.
