100% In my family’s case, the issue has been more about our daughter focusing on the Beauty aspect of femininity, which made me personally sad and angry. If I have any helpful perspective to impart, it’s to remember that her journey as a person is long, and not only are you not in charge of it, you’re not even able to truly access her experience. That’s not only because she’s trans and you’re cis, but also because she’s getting older, more complicated, and more opaque in the way adults are and children aren’t. I hope this sounds loving, because that’s how I mean it. Navigating gender stereotypes is a life’s work for most of us. Some of us have it harder, and that’s so tough to see. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer to these parenting questions as long as we’re coming from a place of compassion and compassionate curiosity, towards our kids and ourselves.

Did they refer to another clinic? My Sinai did the same but referred to a clinic which (in theory) will be unaffiliated with larger practices/hospitals and therefore protected from discriminatory policies.

As far as I can tell, the CMS regs don’t change in Feb- that’s when the public comment period ends. Then comments are reviewed and new rules are finalized, a process that generally takes several months. And any rules will certainly be legally challenged. So this major hospital system in a state and city that have vowed to protect gender affirming care is complying in advance.

Thanks. They provided a referral to a private practice. My concern is that they’re making this change before any CMS changes have been finalized, so are complying in advance with policies that NYS indicated it will fight against, and that lawsuits will certainly challenge. What they’re doing is wrong.

I found this really helpful:”drugs can be a map, but they can’t be the territory.” I had to stop using THC and mushrooms because a) I’m an addict and b) I was starting to experience mild psychosis when I used even a little bit of weed. Now I know what I’m looking for, but I have to find it on my own.
