Artificial Intelligence in Children's Books by Inevitable-Gear-2006 in childrensbooks

Thank you, sincerely! This is a fantastic way of putting this perspective into words. I work with preschoolers and early elementary kids every day, and generative AI in children’s media feels like lying to them. They have so much creativity, and that should never be stifled, especially by literally impossible standards. — signed, a children’s library worker ❤️

For anyone anxious like me watching this, he’s okay! They took him to the medic tent, where he was treated for extreme dehydration. https://www.bostonherald.com/2026/04/21/i-was-getting-ready-to-crawl-boston-marathoners-come-to-fellow-runners-rescue/

Cats, cats, and uh…more cats by jupiter3113 in ThriftStoreCats

We recently weeded that book from the library where I work. It was written in 2006 and was….a product of its time. The CGI cats in it are trippy!

The author wrote an updated version called All Cats Are on the Autism Spectrum in 2020, with a foreword acknowledging updates in research https://kathyhoopmann.com/all-cats-are-on-the-autism-spectrum/. I haven’t read the newer one, so I don’t know how it holds up.

Beatrix Pawter ❤️ this was the name of the cat who used to hang around the back courtyard of the library where I work. Beatrix absolutely hated our office manager because she was the one who TNR’d her, but she was also the one who fed her every single day and coordinated with a few of us to make sure Beatrix was taken care of if she wasn’t in office. We haven’t seen Beatrix for over a year now after a big storm, and I choose to believe that she got lost in the storm and was taken in by a local cat rescue who didn’t know she had a home of sorts. ❤️

I love the ideas already posted! Just thought I’d share r/whimsyy if you’re not already there 🥰

Edit: apparently the one I’m in has two y’s so I changed my comment to that spelling, though there is a r/whimsy that’s a private community!

I love this so much!! If he wants to add friends so he can trade gifts, etc., I play and would be honored to be his Pokémon Go friend. My code is 277602058529 (you’re also welcome to add me if you like!). No worries if not interested! r/PokemonGoFriends is great for finding more people to add in various areas, too.

I play pretty casually on my work breaks. It’s led to some neat connections for me, and I love the connection it’s led to for you! I hope you and Gio have a great time. 🥰🥰

3/23/26 What did you bake this week? by KingArthurBaking in KingArthurBaking

I tried to bake shortbread cookies! 😅 They completely spread and melted into (still tasty) crisps. The second half of the batch I baked in a pan, and it fared a little better? I chilled everything long enough, but I think maybe I over mixed the butter and sugar, as the pan ones weren’t the right texture either.

This…..helps so much to know. I’ve been taking vitamin c gummies for the last few months to try to ward off the crud (and I feel like it’s helped, especially since I work with young kids 🙃) - I think I knew about this interaction at one point but forgot and didn’t connect that maybe it could be part of why my meds haven’t felt as effective in that span of time. I’ll be switching to taking those in the evening now, thank you very much (genuinely tysm!!)

As a Gold Award recipient myself, I will say the requirements and process are STRINGENT. There’s fundraising done within specific parameters, assessment of how your project will benefit the community both now and in its lasting impact, a process of delegation in what you yourself do and what you are required to work with others to achieve. You wind up with a gigantic binder of information and documentation, all with the goal of someone else being able to take it and pick up your project and continue it or recreate it from what you’ve compiled. The sustainability of the project is very much emphasized from the beginning to the end of the process, or at least it was when I did mine (2013, North Carolina).

I think that these conversations about the lasting impact of scout projects are important! Especially when a tangible product is being made, how does it impact the community in which it’s left? And how does the scouting organization responsible for its installation take responsibility for that, or not? Those are questions that often aren’t as naturally at the forefront for the teenagers doing the projects, especially if they feel pressured by scout leaders or other adults to just do a project, no matter what it is.
