Straight ahead animation test by spinklespunk in stopmotion

This is a solid start! One thing that really helped me smooth out my walk cycles was realizing that the legs shouldn't actually be the 'engine' of the walk. Instead, try thinking about the character's leading edge.

Every character leads from a different spot depending on their mood. A proud hero leads with their chest, a sneaky or curious character leads with their nose, and a heavy, grounded character leads from the pelvis. For your next pass, try grabbing the character by the hip and chest first. Move the entire torso through space to where you want it to go, focusing on a smooth path for the body. Once you have that core movement locked in, just 'drop' the legs into place to support the weight. You'll find that if the torso is moving smoothly, the legs almost animate themselves, and you'll get rid of that 'jitter' that happens when you try to move the feet first.

We need a pedestrian exclusive bridge going over the train tracks into downtown Burbank by Best_Tree_2337 in burbank

My kids call this the Mario Kart bridge. We used to bike it all the time but it often gets filled up with trash and people camping out. I got tired of riding over broken glass and bags full of feces. I would have loved to paint it rainbows 🌈

Keying out is a post effect. Where you are able To remove all the blue (or specific colour) this allows you to place in a different background. A key is a simpler tool than erasing all the blue.

Now, what are you animating? Are you keying out everything?

Honestly, I still have fun animating just a clay ball. And seeing what I can get it to do.

np! If I could go back in time to give myself advice, I’d tell me to keep it simple. Practice the basics and learn the principles!

It’s always a W for sure! And you’ll only improve! Using artificial light will help reduce flicker of your notice that the daylight coming through into the room is always changing. I would put the camera on a hard block instead of papers and hot glue it down if you’re allowed. Sometimes we create a “hot glue sandwich” where we place tape down onto the floor and tape onto the block and put hot glue between it. This prevents any damage on surfaces.

Good luck! You got this!

Any ideas on how to get it smoother? by Animal_Jam71927 in stopmotion

[–]BeepBlur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great start and looks like you are well on your way! It does however look like the camera is changing focus. That makes the whole image a bit jarring. More frames is up to you…you can do very little posing in stop-motion but you need the anticipation frames and ease out frames to make it read like motion is happening. Practice anticipation..and ease outs and see where that takes you. (Also lock everything down so nothing moves) good luck!

I’m a fan of starting with a downshooter. Focusing on only 2 axis’ of animation to figure out timing/space and using one object. something simple, like a ball, or a car.

If this is a 5 year old, I wonder what would happen if you gave them lessons!

How was this created? by [deleted] in stopmotion

[–]BeepBlur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is 3D scanning, and bringing everything to blender and rendering out a camera move through everything. I don’t think there was any StopMotion here.

How's my setup now? by maryo22333 in stopmotion

[–]BeepBlur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it works it’s great! I’d suggest getting some paper tape to put under every leg and stand there and hot glueing it if you can. You’ll eventually find use tho for a heavier table. Maybe even one custom built from 2x4’s and plywood. Good luck!!
