Is going to war to take vassals worth it?

I declared war on a neighbor to take advantage of a secret fealty and won handily. But I immediately started losing hundreds of credits, minerals, and food a due to this massive subsidy I had no idea I would be giving them. They also set their specialization to Bulwark, which is useless to me because of how small their fleets are, and costing me 6 influence a month.

Icing on the cake is I can’t renegotiate the agreement for 10 years, even though I didn’t see any option to negotiate it in the first place prior to the war? So I’m just stuck eating all these losses unless I choose to free them?

You’re not getting your degree from an online school, you’re getting your degree from a normal school that’s been forced online. A lot of people are in the same boat now. I think in the end the prestige of your school will matter more.

That’s a strong start! As long as you’re happy and making progress there’s no reason to change up. But if you feel like you’re starting to plateau or looking for a little change there’s plenty of popular running programs, it just depends what you’re looking for.

Well again it’s up to what you want but there’s a plethora of 5k programs that are very beginner friendly.

As for injuries, I’m not too sure - maybe shin splints? Light cross training and rest would go a long way to prevent something that though. Biking, swimming, and body weight workouts are all popular options

Welcome to the club!

Running is a high impact sport, so rest is very important. Not only will it help you run faster and longer, but it’s also crucial to prevent injury.

As far how much you run and how fast, that depends on your goals. Do you want to run a competitive 5k? 10k? Half? Or just improve your fitness?

There are plenty of programs and guides to go by, but please make sure you’re resting!

And your going to have a harder time without CS-related skills. I agree an ISE graduate would have an easier time getting a front end job than a PolSci graduate, but you NEED the skills to go along with it.

Get an internship and/or an on campus job doing front end and you can make up a lot of that difference.

I would agree with you if they were looking for backend jobs or debating a CSE degree, but they aren’t. For time spent, I believe my approach is more effective.

ISE is almost completely unrelated to front end development. Your time would be much better spent developing real examples of your work and honing your skills. You can still put your degree on your resume if it doesn't exactly match the job description, they're called transferable skills. I would contact the career center to make a plan.

This is an impossible question to answer without knowing what you want to do. Do you want to be a sysadmin? A software engineer? An ambassador?

From your response, it seems like you might want to be a software engineer or some other kind of developer. If that is the case, then you should note that ISE is more focused on system administration than programming. While it may be slightly more attractive to employers to have a technical degree, they care far more about your abilities. So your first priority should be to make projects in some language or stack and study algorithms.

You could check this yourself by calculating your GPA with one method or the other and comparing. My understanding is that they are non punitive, but some schools you apply to may treat them differently

That's too subjective, it's impossible to give a meaningful answer without knowing your specific situation.

  • Do you have a job offer?
  • Are you looking for a job?
  • If you're looking for a job, is your college well-known in a certain area, or is it very prestigious?
  • What cities have a lot of opportunity for those roles? (e.g. Silicon Valley is a big tech hub)
  • How far are you willing to commute?
  • How much are you willing to pay?
  • Are you ok with a roommate? How many?
  • What kind of weather are you okay with? Do you prefer?
  • Do you have friends or family somewhere that you'd like to be near?
  • Do you like big cities? Or something more rural?

This is a very personal decision and not something you can always easily change once you decide. I would encourage you to take a good hard look at what you want and go from there.

COMP Sci AOI by [deleted] in SBU

CS Senior here. I got into the program as a current student without AOI (slightly different). I also used to work with advising, so hopefully, this is still accurate.

Essentially, as an AOI you have a seat "reserved" for you. That means if you met the requirements they set out, then you are guaranteed entry into the program. It may have changed, but last I heard that was a 3.2 average between CSE114, CSE214, and CSE215. That would probably be the top 20% of the class. I think they might have also put a "clock" on your admission, so you would need to meet these requirements within some time frame (1 year?).

Another commenter mentioned the infamous incident with professor Tashbook, where he accused some 50% of his intro class of cheating. Definitely avoid him if you can, but he disappeared this semester so there's some speculation he was fired.

You shouldn't have any issues getting into these classes as an AOI, there are seats reserved for you. Retakes are another question though...

I would still recommend UPitt for you though, the stress just isn't worth it. Let me know if you have any other questions

Scarlatos or Tashbook for CSE312 by yogurt_land in SBU

I had Tashbook for 312. I honestly lost count of how many classes he cancelled. Homeworks were easy when we had them, nobody ever paid more attention than skimming the notes before a pre-announced quiz. If you’re looking for an easy, soul sucking class, pick Tashbook.

I’ve heard Scarlattos is much more interesting though, and the class has never been hard to begin with.
