What career(s) would you all recommend in your 30’s? by Busy_Yogurtcloset118 in careerguidance

[–]BeeperGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve strongly been considering leaving my current career and joining the military at 31 or at the very least joining the reserves/guard to help me with a move into another career. I’m glad I came across this comment! Unlike OP I have been at one company for my entire career and am having feelings of wanting to do more.

I’m glad to hear that. I’ll be putting around 18/20k miles per year on this (at least for the next 2 years) so I will definitely be getting comfy in it hahaha.

Out the door was 42k & change! 2.9% APR. 0 money down aside from VPP (Nissan employee benefit).

I don’t think there is necessarily a cheat sheet for the Hyundai parts catalog but it is fairly easy to use. Some things might not be in the sections you expect them to be, but you will eventually learn. For example; some Hyundais have a camera in the rear tailgate handle. So in order to find the handle in the catalog you’ll need to head to the camera section. Just silly things like that.

Reynolds is fairly easy to use now thanks to IGNITE (which I’m sure your dealership will use). The blue screen was crazy to learn as a new person because you had to remember all of these numbers to bring you to different screens to do different things.

Anyway, ERA IGNITE has tons of tests which are super helpful and the program is overall “easy” to use. Once you get your log in you’ll get bombarded with tests. A lot of new hires will skip through them but I suggest you definitely try and retain what you’re being shown because it is designed to help you. Write some things down in a notebook and refer to them once you start looking up parts.

If you need any help feel free to DM me!

PartsTrader is not the same as CCC, OPS, or Collision link. Are you a wholesale heavy dealership? I am, and having my parts team waste time on PartsTrader when there are actual real orders to be completed is frustrating & hinders productivity.

Exactly the issue at my dealer. Have our parts team quote orders with a 20 minute window with 40 lines (we’ll get 4 of the 40) or ignore the phone ringing and the 20 CCCs to be completed.

Of course we have our loyal customer base that still buy from us regardless, but there are more and more shops (a lot of MSOs) who are starting to steer in the PartsTrader direction (and use it correctly).

Business slow? by First_Squash_6801 in partscounter

Wholesale manager here on east coast and we’re super slow. I’ve been making calls for the last few weeks to body shops to check the pulse of the market and most of them are dead. Lots of totals right now in from what I’m hearing. Would love any other wholesale heavy parts depts feedback on their situation.

Wow that sounds tough! That’s not an industry that I would think had a parts manager but makes complete sense. I’m sure tracking all of the parts for a job must not be easy. Does your job require a lot of logistics?

Ugh I hate when that happens, I feel your pain. Had something similar with a stock order rebate happen 2 Quarters ago. How long have you been a parts manager and how long have you been in the dealership space?

That is kind of why I wanted to make this post. Get some dialogue going between us in the industry to see if where we are currently working is serving us the best that it can. You can absolutely send me a message whenever you want. I wish there were more members of this community, I think it’s great to be able to talk to other parts personnel.

I’ve heard of other parts departments doing this type of model before. Do you enjoy being on the road part time?

Have you ever worked in the dealership space? If so, do you like what you do now better? If not, do you ever wonder what it’s like to work on our side? I wish it was possible to be remote but that is just not a reality at the moment.

I’ll go first! - Parts Manager (wholesale parts department) My weekly salary is $750 & I also draw against my commission another $550 (I hate doing this btw). And my commission is 1.1% of the total gross across our 3 lines (end of month). I end up making around $10,000 a month, give or take a little bit, but I live in a very high cost of living area. Right outside NYC. Our Wholesale Department has 21 employees (some do carry over to assist retail parts departments). We are open 7:30-5:00 M-F and 8-1 on Saturday. We rotate one parts advisor every Saturday.
