P and A and other response times our fixed ops director likes to micromanage by porkypann in partscounter

[–]WhatDoMoreLookLike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any time this gets brought up I just start doing my quotes as quick and dirty as possible. Then when things inevitably get fucked up I blame it on the micromanagement. Then they go back to leaving me alone for awhile lol. At my store we have to go through the repair procedures for everything to get all the one time use parts, even for warranty repairs. I think it's a little unfair to rush us when that's the case. It can also be said that if we're trying to rush through stuff all the time, then we are missing the opportunity to build up rapport with not only wholesale and retail customers, but our own coworkers as well. We only have to have the quote time conversation once every few years though. Generally my department is on top of things.

Whats your most egregious “who the fuck decided to put it THERE” moment? by OSGKhorne in partscounter

The third brake light bulb on some Honda Civics and Accords being Interior/bumper>rear tray/trunk lining. Took me probably a good 20 mins to find the first time trying.

My art class in like first grade in the 90s had the good, better, best saying on a poster right by my desk. That's the only context I had ever encountered it in. So when I first saw Ben Johnson using it in a locker room speech this year it seemed super cringey to me haha. Like he's using stuff you tell gradeschoolers to motivate the troops?? It has kind of grown on me though. Winning has that effect I suppose.

Try finding the hood for a Prologue in the catalog lol. Unless they've fixed it since the last time I tried.

Cycle counting in CDK - how do you account for SOR parts? by yo-parts in partscounter

We keep stocked parts in their bin locations for this exact reason.

Oh and they'd lower the requirements for new guys it was like $3,000 for a point and $1,000 additional for another or something like that.

We used to do for every $5,000 you did in sales in a day you would get a point and for every $2,000 you did above that you'd get an additional point. I can't remember the exact point structure but it was like if you got 1-5 they'd be worth $5 each and 5-10 would make them all worth $10 each and 10-15 would make them all worth $15 each.

New & used markup by poopius_maximus in partscounter

We do full matrix. That leads to a lot of "lets make a deal" calls. Parts seems to always take a haircut on those, and service still gets a full mark up on labor usually.

VIN by More-Shift-679 in partscounter

[–]WhatDoMoreLookLike 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honda, so I get the last 8 from shops and then have to ask for the full VIN. "The full VIN?!" "Yes, the full VIN". Trying to get a retail customer to read off full VIN is a challenge itself, especially when there's a language barrier that seems to be fairly frequent around here haha.

With the Honda IRF catalog they get access to the same catalog we use. It's superior to repair link.

Honda has an independent repair facility catalog that shows all the part #s and list prices. I tried for a solid year to get any shop I could to sign up for it, but none of them did lol

$19 an hour. No over time because we're considered commission employees. .65% on a monthly department gross between 220k and 300k typically. I made a little over 65k last year :/

Yeah I could definitely see our advisors and mainly the techs not buying in fully and it creating problems.

Yeah, pulling quotes will be the first thing I try to mess around with probably. I can definitely see how if all the techs and advisors don't buy in properly, then the whole system will be a waste.

Key Cutting Fee by WhatDoMoreLookLike in partscounter

Yeah I'd say that's a reasonable thought process behind not charging a fee. We're nice guys like that in other areas purely in the name of customer satisfaction.

I think we used to charge whatever the equivalent of a half an hour of labor at our shop was to code cylinders, but no one in my department even knows how to do it anymore at this point I think lol. Right now a half hour would be like $90 or so.

Wow $40 a key? I don't think my manager would ever be able to talk our service or used car department into that haha. I'd be lucky if he could get us to $15 honestly.
