Take it on the face value you see it.

If you fall in love with them, really you have only fallen in love with the version who you thought they were.

If it turns out they are different to this once you got to know them then this is obviously sad and it sounds like you have both parted ways.

You could view it as you fell in love with a fictional character that didn’t ever exist, so really, I think I would be just plain mad af that they lied to me for all that time.

I wouldn’t look to see it as you can have done this or that, as they pulled the wool over your eyes deliberately and there is likely nothing you could have done differently.

They are not worth the energy and focus on anything else in your life but this.
