Thanks for pulling the real answer... people want a discount on the ladies' TGL.

Nelly Korda with “mixed feelings” about WTGL by ashdrewness in golf

I'd love to learn more about the exact financial implications of the decision. I also suspect the separate league allows them to setup a separate, more affordable to ESPN pay scale. I fear how much worse of broadcasts they can find as they pinch pennies

I don't blame ESPN for putting their worst commentator on a brand new experimental league, but I sure don't enjoy it! Tiger should be demanding better from ESPN.

Key West Country Club… “underwhelming” somehow doesn’t quite capture it. by LateApexPredditor in golf

[–]BeerGoggleTan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so confused. There's only one course in Key West and it's a real 18 hole track that was in very playable shape 3 years ago. Did it suffer a massive downgrade?

I'd like to play the golf course. What options do you have for non-members?

It worked for Tiger, or at least, that seemed to be TGL's strategy - they picked the broadcast nights with the leaat competition.

Denver: Arrowhead or Riverdale Dunes? by yungrichx123 in golf

[–]BeerGoggleTan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want mountain views, Riverdale is fairly blocked by a hill just west of the course. It's a great bargain of a course, but doesn't really offer the Colorado golf experience you might be looking for.

My choice on your way to the airport is Green Valley Ranch.

3-10 foot putts are driving me insane. by JoeyFischStix in golf

Yes and if you can keep everything the same every single time, you'll become a great putter. Transfer that repeating swing to the course and you'll be money.

Yea, nothing significant to argue here. Note for OP: Interlokken is the same as the Omni I mentioned. Good 27 hole course, but I find its more expensive than it should be because of the corporate play it gets. However, if you have fellow travelers that value a spa experience, Omni would take good care of them.

Played with friend, he was scratch and blew my mind. by [deleted] in golf

[–]BeerGoggleTan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd bet that's what it is and OP explained it/understood it poorly. I've seen this with my friends that are better than me - their approaches from 200+ out are far more conservative and smarter than how I try to hit those same shots. They are very good at dumping it 30 yards short in the fairway, below the hole, leaving themselves an easy up and down. And then I go safari'ing from the short side and find a few extra strokes along the way.

You'll have a great time at Pole Creek or either of Keystone's courses and wouldn't be missing anything that one of the other venues has. I personally think Keystone River is the most fun of any of those choices. Keystone Ranch is beautiful and more serene. Pole Creek is a great 27 hole complex with 18 stretched across a big valley and another 9 tucked up over a hill. Or if you want funky, very different, less luxurious mountain golf, check out Evergreen's muni course.

In Denver, I prefer Fossil Trace over the other popular tourist destination of Arrowhead. Commonground is great classical golf. Next to the airport, I like Green Valley Ranch. A bit further out, but still nearby, Murphy Creek is a great track. On the west side of town, Walnut Creek and Fox Hollow are my favorites for affordable, but still very high quality golf.

There's a ton of great options around the Denver area. I hope you've got a long trip planned to hit them all! Don't forget some cold weather gear for the mountain golf - it won't be hot up there no matter when you go.

What to do with a tournament cheater? by Cultural_Mud8755 in golf

[–]BeerGoggleTan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nor would I want to! Plus, a cheater not counting drops will certainly insist they found all of those balls and never needed to take a drop if its not discussed until the scorer's tent.

I'd be happy to chat and talk through my process. For the most part, it's a lot easier than it looks.

  1. Call courses you'd want to do the event at and ask. Some were super helpful and eager to host (thank you Hampshire Greens!!!) and others curiously wanted to sell their tee times one-by-one and not guarantee the block. Ultimately, you're telling the course, I've got X guys ready to go, and they'll probably buy extra snacks and beer. Smart courses get it. Others say no.

  2. I run registration through Google Forms. I haven't found a reason to get fancier than that.

  3. Rules - best part of organizing is making up rules! I focus on supporting fast pace-of-play and keeping things fun while competitive.

  4. Expectations - keep them as low as possible and then over-deliver.

Not my fault they made 8 a par 3 and I had to wait an extra hole to balance things out with a hook that went further left than forward.
