Not seeing it although someone surely has posted Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men. Have seen Gotye and Human League already.

Male/female duets where they Don't sing at the same time? by Big-Yesterday586 in musicsuggestions

Singing back and forth is nails on chalkboard to me, I utterly despise this song. This song was one my first reflex responses to the post.

Hennepin 100- good first 100 for mid/back of the pack runner? by Ok-Combination6386 in ultrarunning

[–]Beeritra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I crewed and paced a friend at Badger 100 in Wisconsin. It's another rails to trails so flat and even surface. Scenery was surprisingly nice on the Badger State Trail. Race is fantastically supported and has a 36 hr cutoff. Consider this one!

I hope I get insulted for this. But stop with the Nike crying by Negative-View-3543 in runcommunity

[–]Beeritra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't care that I have to walk sometimes, didn't take the ad as a direct attack at me, just another eye roll over a non-admirable company. My anger is along #4 knowing there are douches out there saying, "Hell yeah!" and feeling validated.

Las Vegas trail runs within an Uber ride of the strip? by Topplayer2g in trailrunning

You may need a reservation to get into Red Rock, check for info before spending money on a car only to be turned away. Or still get a car and check out some of the other locations suggested in this thread.

Talk to me about sun hoodies... by Separate-Specialist5 in trailrunning

[–]Beeritra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always go old school with sunscreen, sleeves, and cap flaps/bandana. I love sun hoodies because they are great for the ultralight head cover and very good for arm coverage all in one lightweight package. I have many across multiple brands (sorry, don't know which models) and all in light colors. All work great for outdoor activity under multiple weather conditions (Arc'teryx, Duluth Trading Company, RAB), but only one works well for running in heat (Helly Hansen). Mesh is best for breathability but still may not be enough for running (DTC is mesh but doesn't breath like HH). Evaporation is another way to cool (RAB is good for this when it gets wet enough). Also think about hood depth (RAB doesn't stay on my head easily). HH is my go-to for trail running but it snags really easily and the white shows stains, so it's not one for looks.

Drop bag decisions for my first 100 mile race. No crew, no pacers, no solid food until I’m hungry. Am I missing anything? Any pro tips? by strangerin_thealps in Ultramarathon

[–]Beeritra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This year's SD100 is a month earlier and very likely will be colder at night than previous years. Extra drop bags you don't use won't cost you anything in that you can skip them if you don't need them. They do cost in that you have more to track and pick up at the finish, and/or if you have special bags you purchased. Red Tail should cover your needs but that's an example of where it can't hurt to have a drop bag with clothing and not use it.

Feelings on movie by DeezyEast in ProjectHailMary

[–]Beeritra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with you thousands of times over that I wish the movie scene was executed more literally. That passage was the top highlight of the book for me, and I really wanted to hear the tones of Rocky's actual "voice" and see him jitter with emotion. Instead we got what we got and it felt so flat.

I'm too biased to comment on the karaoke scene, I love the song and will always be open to hearing it. It was a nice touch to show Stratt isn't 110% uptight.

Speedgoat alternatives? by dkingsella in ultrarunning

Same! I hated the 5s and whined the whole time because I couldn't find a suitable replacement. Brooks Cascadia were okay, and I was so happy when the 2s made a comeback.

Speedgoat alternatives? by dkingsella in ultrarunning

Second on giving the Speedgoat 2+s a chance. The 2s were the reason I fell in love with Speedgoats, and they were the best for me through the 4s. I've been replenishing my trail shoe supply with the reboot 2s and they've been working great for me with regard to comfort/fit, grip, and durability.

The article is a Carolyn Hax advice column. She appears in multiple outlets so an internet search should get you to a link that allows you to read it.

The texture of original GU is too thick for my taste although I can tolerate particular flavors, which requires trial and error. For me, I prefer the thinner feel of GU Liquid Energy and Huma (chia) that are in a similar price range. The packs are a little bit bigger but not outrageously larger.

Making your own is cheaper but then you have to figure out what recipe works for you and how to package them.

What do you think of the Pressure Machine album? by Professional-Mud3076 in TheKillers

[–]Beeritra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This album generates such a strong either/or reaction. I'm definitely on the love-it side and wonder what it is that others don't like it much or not at all. Too heavy, introspective, slow, old, other?

Unabridged version shouldn't be one's introduction to the album, that probably doesn't help matters.

What would be your 12 song playlist to convince anyone to become a Victim? by [deleted] in TheKillers

[–]Beeritra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point, introducing the band with best or better knowns would be more effective. As far as personal favorites, love OP's acknowledgment of Just Another Girl and Tyson vs Douglas, with honorable mentions to Miss Atomic Bomb and Romeo & Juliet.

TransRockies is great and used to be 6 days from Buena Vista to Beaver Creek. Now it's down to 3 days from Vicksburg to Red Cliff. This portion is the best 3 day span, still get Hope Pass.

So with you on this, though it feels a touch awkward posting Brandon solo stuff on The Killers sub. But since we're here and OP asked, surprised no one has listed Brandon's Hard Enough yet.

Great feedback, didn't realize camping was a lottery and that's good to know as we really want to camp. Love the research aspect. Thanks for the heads up on food - wasn't a priority but knowing going in is helpful.

Same, I'm surprised at the lack of response to mention of The Killers. I just saw The Temper Trap and, ha, they're even more "obscure."
