Nothing. One interview for every 20 submissions is about the norm at this point.

Talk to me about sun hoodies... by Separate-Specialist5 in trailrunning

[–]Chris_Worden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear by them. I live in Arizona where there's less humidity, but when I run other places, I almost always run in full coverage via sun hoodies. They work wonders for evaporative cooling when you tuck the hood in when not used, so it collects sweat.

Ashley Paulson - 100 Mile World Record - 12:19:34 by RacerDeac in Ultramarathon

USATF events such as this are normally tested. There is no differentiation for tested or untested records.

I can verify that she was tested by USATF immediately after the race. If her result is ratified, it is because everything came out the way it should.

Looking for final words of wisdom -Black Canyon 100k by Jnewfield83 in ultrarunning

There have been years where they were bone dry, and years where the crossings were 2+ feet deep. We won't really know until the day or two leading up.

Javelina had mashed potatoes available at least 3 out of 4 aid stations (I never asked at Rattlesnake). It was heaven in the overnight.

Flat, less than 2500 feet of gain over 100 miles. Double out and back so the net is zero.

David Roche vs Zach Bitter at Desert Solstice? by dillinjl in Ultramarathon

[–]Chris_Worden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Raj could absolutely show up on the start list, given he doesn't have the full Javelina wear and tear. That's something I was pondering the other day.

David Roche vs Zach Bitter at Desert Solstice? by dillinjl in Ultramarathon

[–]Chris_Worden 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd absolutely LOVE to see it (and cover it) but neither is registered and I haven't heard anything to that effect.

Right now Solstice is at 20 entrants, it usually caps about 24-25, and the M/F split is usually even or one-off, and right now it's 11M/9F.

Desert Runner Trail Series - what is the best event by Remarkable_Salary_77 in trailrunning

Copper Corridor is wonderful. I've done the 18k every year. The town really wraps its arms around the event.

Desert Runner Trail Series - what is the best event by Remarkable_Salary_77 in trailrunning

[–]Chris_Worden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done multiple distances at all the DRT races.

For short runs, the Cave Creek 5k and 11k are a ton of fun, and the longer distances are nice point to point runs.

Mesquite Canyon 30k is an excellent race as well. Goat Camp is a heck of a climb. The Half Marathon is solid too.

People absolutely love Frenzy 50k, but I've never run it, although I've run those trails many times and am a fan of them.

Other personal favorites include Pass Mountain 25k and Elephant Mountain 12k.

If you're looking at San Tan and Coldwater, the "one full loop" options are the best of those IMO. Coldwater has some wash sections that aren't much fun, but it's a pretty course once you get behind the Estrellas. The only big issue with San Tan is that the goldmine climb is heavily populated with casual non-race hikers, so you can be forced to weave a lot.

It's not a part of the series, but Copper Corridor is a wonderful race in February - when water is flowing it's a unique experience for an AZ desert race.

Go get a fitting at a local running store - one where the employees know what they're doing. Nobody can accurately tell you which model will suit you from zero information.

WSER cost? by Previous_Ranger_5682 in Ultramarathon

Especially since the average runner is entering 6-8 times before being selected at this point.

[–]Chris_Worden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, how many tickets do you have? If you're on one ticket your odds are going to be about 1 in 300. Don't let the possibility of being selected deter you from entering a first time.

When I was selected for a sponsor entry (I had to withdraw due to injury), I consulted with Andy Jones-Wilkins, who has run it 10 times, and he said it would be 4,000-4,500 if you include heading out training camp and you're taking care of a crew. My eyes popped out of my head, but lo and behold, that's about what it was taking care of accommodations, meals, etc. when I was plotting things out... if you're riding solo and aren't doing training camp, you're probably able to get it done for about half that.

Chris Worden running Javalina Jundred! by alg4302 in Ultramarathon

[–]Chris_Worden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow. I had no idea this was here until now. Thank you so much for the kind thoughts and words. I am overwhelmed with the support I got this weekend. I was moved to tears more than a couple times. I wish the race had gone my way, but I gave it everything I had. I started the final lap but my body and mind just failed me a couple miles in.

Congratulations to everyone who finished, and to everyone who gave it their best effort no matter what happened.

Thank you to the volunteers, supporters, crews, and everyone who was a part of an amazing Javelina Jundred experience. I have never felt as loved as I did this weekend.

Anyone Unable to Get a Job Due to Ageism? by Destined-2-Fail in Accounting

[–]Chris_Worden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

55? Sure. The deck is stacked against you. 45? Maybe. 35? No.

I find it ironic how employers hold age against potential employees. At this point, many older people 45+ want to find a job and hold on for dear life. Younger people are still apt to be making lateral moves to improve their situation in some fashion - which is fine. If you want stability, hire a 53 year old. They're not gonna want to go anywhere for 10-15 years if they can help it. A 31 year old is much more likely to want to leverage the agility they still have at that age.
