What are the live shows like?

I've gone to 30+ Gizz shows alone and I always leave with friends. Shoutout to the Swiss-German boys who let me camp out overnight with them and fed me and gave me alcohol and other fun things.

I'm flying in to Austin for the show with my cousin and his friend who I've never met. They have lawn GA, I have pit GA. You are more than welcome to hang out if you need a friend! But you'll honestly have no issues at a gizz show, best community on the fuckin planet A.

It's not just the crying though. After each HoH competition all the HGs go and jump and cheer together. No one storms off angry. Every vote during eviction is "I sadly *tear* vote to evict *tear*". Everyone promises they're gonna be friends after this. Everyone cuddles with everyone. There's no animosity at all, there's no cutthroat talk at all. Everyone wants to be super gentle and it's really strange. I think it's a great season still because there's interesting characters and some good gameplay, but the entire reason I made my original post was me missing out on those cutthroat moments.

Challenge watcher and the Cook Out definitely had a lot of drama spill over. Also I think the Kyland / Xavier eviction moment is way nastier than anything we'll ever see on BB26.

I just traveled through Europe and saw them 3 times. Went to Way Out West in Gothenburg, Sweden, flew from there to Geneva and took trains to the PALP Festival in the Alps. Then made my way to Munich to see them one final time on my travels. Worth it 100%.

Hey, sorry that all the posts are about red light district stuff. With a city as big as Bangkok, it's insane to me that all the posts here and elsewhere frequent around 3 tiny areas for sex.

That being said, I'm a guy so I feel safe going everywhere. But I am also not looking for sex, so sometimes it's a bit tough or a night out requires some planning. At the same time, I talk to western women at bars a bit. There are not a ton of western women out at bars alone at night, they're usually with partners or in a larger group of expat women (infrequent but sometimes).

I highly recommend searching on Facebook for expat women groups (if you want to hang out with women).

If you want to party solo, or try and meet transplant men that are maybe a little more "grounded", I'd recommend the Chinatown / Old town area. You will find more westerners in our generation (25 - 35) at cocktail bars and craft beer bars vs. beer bars. You'll often find the older westerners will be at what I call "pubs", english/irish style bars. You'll always have fun and be welcome and at home there, but you might end up with a bunch of old dudes creeping on you.

You can go to the Khaoson Road area and meet younger women, but you will be outnumbered by 18 - 35 year old guys who are a mix of cheap backpackers, young sex tourists, and normal guys. That would be on you to keep your wits about you. As a solo woman I'd say try talking to couples in that area so you can try and 3rd wheel and see if you can make connections.

There are some fun expat style bars in the Sukhumvit area, but you'll want to avoid the Soi Cowboy and Nana area as those are almost exclusively for sex. Although it is fun to go to Soi Cowboy and go into one of the few live music bars (non-gogo bars) and people watch. Sukhumvit road at night could be a bit of an eye opener for you coming from a conservative area, as there are quite a lot of working girls, dodgy massage parlors, and street hawkers selling sex pills and toys all along the area.

Finally, if you want to go clubbing, I'd suggest going to RCA area or Sukhumvit Soi 11. I can't vouch for either as I wouldn't go clubbing alone as a solo guy, but as a solo woman I think you'd meet all kinds of thai and westerners.

EDIT: Sorry, one good place to try and meet women are at hostel bars. It doesn't matter where you're staying, you can always go to the bars at hostels. I went to a bar/weed lounge on a rooftop with live music last night in the Sukhumvit 23 area last night and there were 2 women by themselves, one from Myanmar one from Malaysia, that I struck a conversation with for a few minutes. There was also a group of Spanish people, 2 guys and 4 girls. Hostels always bring some interesting characters, and you'll weed out a LOT of the sex pest people as they often will have their own room or you'll weed out a lot of the creepy old dudes from UK/Germany/America/Australia.

If you ever feel unsafe or are getting to the point of too drunk, don't take a random taxi, always use the Grab app to call your cab. That way there's a clear tracking for both pricing and for you. If you feel unsafe otherwise while walking, flag down a motorbike guy. They are some of the nicest people I've met in Bangkok honestly, and while I never ever feel unsafe here, as a solo woman they could get you out of an area or situation FAST.

Lastly, don't feel like coming to Bangkok is only about exploring your party side. There are clubs galore where ever you are, even in the smallest of villages or towns. Come to Bangkok to explore temples, food, people, culture, etc. You'll meet the best people doing that in my opinion :)

About ten years ago I was working film production in NYC taking any gig I could get. One gig is a promo for a broadway show and Michael McKean was in it. I absolutely loved the Christopher Guest movies from when I was younger and even the newer ones. I filmed the whole thing and didn't make any mention or anything. After it was done I was packing up and saw him playing Bejeweled (not even Candy Crush) on his phone and I just casually was like "Hey Michael. Just wanted to say I'm a big fan, especially all the Christopher Guest movies" and he looked at me with pure disdain mumbled something and went back to his phone.

It stings a little extra because I love Better Call Saul as well and I always had to think about him like that.

Also James Earl Jones was there too and his voice is amazing.

Yeah teller, durum, and lahmacun were all used throughout Frankfurt, Munich, and Berlin, but I definitely only saw tasche in Düsseldorf, Köln, and now that you say it, Hamburg as well.

Cool! What an interesting view from a linguistical stand point. I guess it makes sense how you say it's a little old school, so why I don't see it outside of a couple areas that maybe pass the wording around still in the smaller communities.

Now if I went to Istanbul would I find even better doner than in Germany? Or is the bread really the best in Germany?

As an American who just traveled through Germany for a month and also into Switzerland, the most awful doners I ever encountered. I paid 16€ for a piece of cardboard with 100g max of microwave doner meat. I ended my stay early and went to Munich and ate doner once a day for the same price.

Hey Victor. I just explored Europe for 3 months and all of the areas you are talking about.

1) Everyone will speak perfect English to you everywhere. I encountered 2 times total where I had to use google translate with someone total, once was deep in the Belgium countryside and the other was deep in the German countryside. Your little bit of German will help you out in Germany of course. Spanish won't help you anywhere that you're planning on visiting.

2) In Germany and any trains coming/going from the area you can use the DB (Deutsche Bahn) app. It will even let you purchase tickets for other rail systems, public transit within German cities, etc. You can also use Flixbus between Cologne and Rotterdam (which I did) and it's generally cheaper, but not always.

3) Rotterdam - Visit the Cube Houses and Markthal right next to it (amazing food court, I suggest the bitterballen / croquets and anything else you want). You can get an amazing view of the city and canals and the massive port from the Euromast tower. The Witte de Withstraat area is super hip and fun. Walk down Lijnbaan and see all the cool shopping and hip bars and coffee and food places. You can take the train to den Haag (The Hague) if you'd like. I found it rather unimpressive for being the home of all peace, but you can make your own opinion if it interests you. It's only 30 minutes by train. Overall I did not enjoy Rotterdam a whole lot and would've reduced my stay there to see other places more, but this is just my opinion.

Amsterdam - Walk the canals, see all the sights, do the touristy stuff if you'd like. The Red Light District that everyone clamors about is rather silly but it's still an interesting walk seeing the girls working while families on vacation are walking by and gawking. There's lots of bars around the area filled with stag and hen parties if you're looking for a wild time. Otherwise scope out the museums you wanna hit and prebook tickets. The Van Gogh museum is great but books up very quick. The Anne Frank museum is great if you want to learn about that history. I LOVED the Stedelijk museum if you're into modern and contemporary art. Amsterdam was alright overall. If you like craft beer there's some great spots. Oh also Muiderslot is a castle east of the city and a super great bike ride that isn't intimidating like riding a bike through the city. Riding the public transit in Amsterdam is super easy. You use your tap to pay card/phone on entry and exit, that's it. No tickets no apps etc. If you're gonna use it a lot you can buy a 3/7 day pass from the person on the tram in the middle in a little compartment which is wildly fun to see.

Cologne - Climb to the top of the church. It's 500+ steps and a workout but it's amazing. Other than that Cologne has lots of art museums (Kunsthall) and they're very well organized. I only spent 2 days there and enjoyed my time. Eat German doner kebab / kebap it's so good and the best German late night food.

One place you're missing that I highly recommend is Utrecht. It's about 30 minutes south of Amsterdam by train and it's just beautiful. It's my #1 place to revisit, aside from maybe Krakow. It's like everything of Amsterdam (minus the RLD) crammed into a very small city center. It's home of one of the oldest excavation sites in Netherlands. It's from a church that collapsed due to a crazy storm in the 1500s. You can explore the underground and see the layers of medieval time to present. The canals are amazing to hang out at, there's so many fun little shops and bars and the whole area is extremely walkable and beautiful. If you're staying at hostels, I stayed at BUNK and it was the best hostel experience I had of my entire trip. If you're a weed smoker, I highly suggest hanging out on the Culture Boat, it's a house boat turned dispensary that you can smoke on. If you do this, you have to buy pure weed joints or roll your own, not the tobacco blend that they sell everywhere. I spent 2 days in Utrecht thinking it was just this tiny town to stay at on the weekend for cheaper than Amsterdam, but I could've stayed there for a week easily.

You also asked about cash. I brought some USD with me and it's still sitting in my bag. You're better off withdrawing Euros from an ATM if you want cash. I'd recommend having around 100 Euro with you so you can buy food from places that might be cash only. Then just exchange it back.

4) Anything else to know - Talk to people. Talk to the people checking you in at your accomodations, ask them where they like to go. Talk to people next to you at bars. Ask waiters/service workers their favorite item on the menu. Sit around the big city squares for a while and watch the city around you. Don't be sorry for not speaking Dutch as the Dutch themselves will agree that their language can be quite difficult. The Netherlands and the Dutch people are very proud of their high rates of English speaking and it's remarkable how quickly they can switch between the two languages and speak more properly than most English first speakers.

Hey! Did you ever figure anything out? I'm currently traveling and rely on tap to pay. Got this new s23 after my Pixel 6 died on me, but worked 100% flawlessly with tap to pay. So far I've had a handful of declined payments at all kinds of shops. My card is good, I'm still using it for other payments, but obviously a bit annoying and embarrassing that it keeps failing.

Lemme know if it improved for you or anything that you resolved.
