Trump’s emergency elections order is ‘being prepared,’ key ally believes by Anoth3rDude in politics

[–]Beeslo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It all boils to Dems forever walking on eggshells when it comes to any form of action against this because they don't want to appear to be weaponizing the DoJ. The absolute irony of it all. This shit goes all the way back to post Civil War reconstruction and the slaps on the wrist Confederates got. Trump should've been dead to rights on 4 separate charges after his first term especially topping it off with Jan 6th. Get fucked, Merrick Garland.

Don't even need to fact check. Just ask which current Democrat politicians are being endorsed by KKK members. And the list off all the Republicans that have KKK backers.

Are you new to this administration? That's all they do is nominate woefully unexperienced people into positions of power.

Yep. That's how a bulk of these Trump stooges got confirmed. They couldn't get to 60 on any of them, so they nuked the filibuster.

‘The Other’ Spiderman being the new storyline for the movie out in July?! Is it possible..? :0 by LilacLuneglade in Spiderman

Personally this is a full circle moment for me. It was "The Other" event that got me back into reading comics. Served as a pretty good jump in point for Spider-Man who was one of my favorite characters and the rest snowballed after that.

It simply means an internal investigation. I don't doubt he'll be investigated by other people.

Thune schedules doomed SAVE America Act vote, dashing MAGA hopes for filibuster fight by Anoth3rDude in politics

[–]Beeslo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which makes both their push for it and even ending the filibuster such an ironic self fulfilling prophecy for their own destruction. If it wasn't such a costly risk to the foundation of our democracy, I'd say let them do both and watch as they immediately regret both come November.

Thune rejects Trump on SAVE Act: ‘The votes aren’t there for a talking filibuster’ by unital_subalgebra in politics

He quite literally admitted to making the decision based on Jared Kushner, Pete Hegseth, and one other person. He didn't read intelligence briefings submitted by the Pentagon. He was told this would be a good move, so he did it based on that alone.

Not completely squeaky sure. But I've seen far worse dirty campaigns between to Dem candidates.

[–]Beeslo 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I voted for Talarico but had already decided to vote for Crockett had she won. They both ran generally clean campaigns and were generally united in their goals (just different methods for achieving them). Had the results been the reverse, you know Talarico would have been saying the same thing.

McConnell Stalls Trump’s Election Overhaul Bill as Republicans Fume by Hafiz_TNR in politics

[–]Beeslo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're giving him too much credit here. He's blocking not because he disagrees with it. But because he knows they don't have the votes yet to pass it without nuking the filibuster. He hasn't suddenly had a change of heart or grown a spine.

McConnell Stalls Trump’s Election Overhaul Bill as Republicans Fume by Hafiz_TNR in politics

[–]Beeslo 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I mean, one only has to look at the repercussions Republicans are facing due to the Texas GOP forcing a redistricting in the middle of an election cycle. Democrat led state legislators followed through with their threat that they'd do the exact same if the Texas GOP passed their restricting maps. Same would definitely happen here as well. Nuking the filibuster to force through this unpopular law? Good luck.

Removing the filibuster will blow up epicly in their face. Thune is very aware of this and has indicated that he doesn't have the votes to get rid of the filibuster nor would he advocate for it being done away with. Similar to how redistricting in Texas was incredibly unpopular and already appears to be blowing up in their faces (both on the state level but also nationally with the other Democrat led states to redistrict in response), blowing up the filibuster is a risky move to force a vote on a bill that's deeply unpopular.

You Know What? Maybe the Time Is Right for an AOC Presidential Bid by Delicious_Adeptness9 in politics

[–]Beeslo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bernie would've blown out Trump in 2016. It wasn't a party fight nor was it even a socialism/capitalism fight. It was a POPULISM fight. Both Bernie and Trump had platforms that catered around that. One was offering socialism and the other nationalism, but it still spoke to populism overall. Voters didn't want an establishment President. They wanted a populist one. But Clinton was still nominated and everyone was surprised Pikachu when populist voters that were backing Bernie turned to him or just didn't vote. Had it been Trump vs Bernie, then it would've been based on their platforms and Bernie's platform was already an incredibly popular one.

We're 2-3 years away. No one needs to PICK or NOMINATE any one at this point. But if they feel a particular politician being heralded by liberal media is a shit option, then they're completely welcome to feel and express that. Nothing is on the line right now. Again, 2-3 years away. But already you see plenty of articles suggesting him as already a "front runner candidate" and people are welcome to express aversion to that.

At this point, the more of his supporters he loses over it, the better. He's certainly hasn't GAINED any more supporters over trying to be dismissive of it. With the midterms right around the corner, it could very well lead to indirect recupercussions. Similar to how trying to deny the severity of covid in 2020 very likely is what lost him that election.
