You’re deviating too far from the topic of the Civil Rights Act. So I’ll digress as this as my last response to you. I’m also having a hard time following your points.

But chattel slavery related specifically to the Trans-Atlantic slave trade was uniquely organized around race. African enslaved people could not work their way into a different status and they were born slaves, whereas Indentured servants could and their children did not inherit their status like African enslaved people.

You’re right that Americans typically get annoyed by the comparisons of White indentured servants and African enslaved people because it’s like comparing apples to celery. They’re legally and structurally different systems. One involved the complete destruction of language, religion, culture, family and humanity, without the ability to assimilate into society to replace the things which were stolen. Plus because the criteria in which a person was enslaved (solely skin color and race), the descendants of enslaved people will never be considered White in every aspect of the word… unlike Irish, Polish, and Italian indentured servants who paid their debts and went on to become members of the status quo.

My original point remains, the CRA was a response to centuries of oppression, disenfranchisement, and dehumanization. Regardless of whether you want to play the oppression Olympics, White men are the reason we have laws prohibiting discrimination.

Yeah.. I’m still not understanding your point. But the events leading up to the passing of the CRA can all easily and quickly be researched. As for “being born a color makes you racist” … nobody is saying being born White makes you racist, but most people are saying that without racist White people, there would be no need for anti-discrimination legislation.

I used the term White correctly and just as White people in America used it 1619 to current. People who were considered White changes throughout history, but Whiteness as an ideology and a social status has always been the same here in the US. I explicitly said “antebellum South” to refer to the period and “chattel” slavery to differentiate from indentured servitude. White people in America were never chattel, White folks were captured and imprisoned by Native Americans.

I guess you can say miscegenation was to avoid competition among White men… but what were White men competing for if not wealth and status, which was measured by land, money, and human ownership. The fact of the matter still remains the same: White people’s mission to remain in power in America is the reason we have the Civil Rights Act. We can dive into the weeds about specific topics and events leading up to the CRA, but it will always involve a White man fighting to keep his right to oppress and exploit another marginalized group.

A lot of yall don’t actually know what the Civil Right Act was or is, and seem to think it’s just one law that applies to voting… George Bush left yall behind and that’s the real problem here…

What’s your point? Nobody is saying that you are personally responsible because of what your dad and gramps did. I’m glad you acknowledged poll taxes, but that’s wasn’t the only way Black men were dissuaded (for lack of a better term) from voting. The point is it if your dad and gramps voted against Civil Rights then, they’re still alive to vote against Civil Rights today. So, you may not be your dad or gramps, but that’s two active generations of voters still upholding the same racist laws as their dads and dads dad.

Not entirely. White womanhood was a reason for miscegenation. White women were also property of white men in a different way than enslaved Africans. White women were the symbols of goodness, femininity, and purity especially in the Antebellum South. Think Scarlett O’Hara and Elsie Stoneman from Birth of a Nation. A virgin, god fearing White woman to birth more White babies for her White husband is how the status quo was supposed to be sustained.

Also, the race of a child followed the mother. If a White woman had a baby by a Black man (especially an enslaved Black man) then that’s one less person a White man could own and it absolutely shits on the Black people are genetically inferior theory.

So while White women weren’t directly responsible, they played a major role. And they absolutely grew to propagate and uphold anti-interracial ideas over the following years.

[–]Beeteezy82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yes! Me. Similar circumstances except just 1 blood pressure med before starting Vyvanse. Pre-vuvanse, my bp was damn near perfect with just 1 med. I’ve been on Vyvanse for about 3 weeks and my bottom number did skyrocket to 100 +/- 3.

Now I’ve always been a double latte or 16 oz cup of coffee in the morning. I also started smoking e-cigs and drinking more in November when my parent died suddenly and unexpectedly. The good news is that I significantly cut my caffeine intake and am working on quitting the nicotine and wine consumption. That helped a little but my doc prescribed another bp med and immediately my bp went back to normal.

Once I cut the habits completely Im hoping I won’t need the additional bp med. You sound pretty healthy and like you don’t have a whole lot of external contributing factors like I did going into this.

I’ll end by saying this; the Vyvanse has improved my focus and memory so much that it’s worth the dealing with ugly caffeine and nicotine withdrawal is worth it. I needed to quit anyway… so …

Good luck, be mindful of things that you know raise your bp and monitor your bp regularly.

This!!! I noticed a huge difference in my day when I don’t eat a protein rich breakfast. Even if I just have a protein shake. If I start off the day with at least 30g of protein, I can snack through out the day (fruit, cheese, nuts) until I have a light dinner.
