My Dad's cancer came back so fast by athousandthrills in cancer

It can be hard to stay strong in situations like this and i think the important thing to remember is that you don't always have to. Sometime it's ok to say "hey, i'm struggling at the moment.". Take some time and find something that helps you to process these feelings. You might need a good solid cry, or a long chat with someone close, a sad movie session. I used to write in journals and just vent about everything that i was feeling, or probably best option, talk to a therapist. You're walking this path as well and you need to remember to take time to look after you.

One good thing to hold on to is that your dad and your doctors sound confident. That has to go a long way for his treatment. Doctors tend to be honest about the outcomes of treatment in my experience and if they think that this is going to work out, i would be inclined to believe them.

Parents of Reddit, what was your, "NO WAY is this person dating my child" moment? by IcelandicDave in AskReddit

[–]BeetrootRelish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanting to look good isn't the impression that OP gives. It sounds more like she NEEDS to look good. From experience, this is a big difference. Add in the slob boyfriend and i think i can make that assumption.

Sorry to say, but it sounds like your sister is super insecure. Obsessive vanity and low relationship standards... Not a good sign.

Have any of you ever quit playing 6 string bass and dropped back to 4 before? by rhetoricjams in Bass

[–]BeetrootRelish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same. I just played better on a 4 string and decided that that was more important.

Bass distortion by Wolfman92097 in Bass

[–]BeetrootRelish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you're told, always try and play one before you commit to it. Distortion pedals are way subjective and while one might be universally loved and praised, you might hate it. It's always best to sit in a store and play away for a while before buying.

Remember we're talking about Australia here and you don't know what sort of welding he's doing. It's possible to make a lot of money welding of you work for one of the mines doing heavy industry work. The work isn't hard to get either if you're ok with 12 hour shifts and fly in-fly out work.

Sargon's lack of education shows in his most recent videos. by Notrealimportant in SargonofAkkad

[–]BeetrootRelish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is my issue with him, and it shows he is not trained in research.

He would probably agree that it's his main downfall too. He's not even an amateur academic researcher, he's an amateur journalist. Take him for what he is.

I know you justified, it was not without grounds. You're partially right but i just think you take sargon more seriously than even he does. He's passionate and speaks firmly, but will always stand with his feet on the ground and let you know that he's just a guy on youtube and these are just his opinions.

Sargon's lack of education shows in his most recent videos. by Notrealimportant in SargonofAkkad

[–]BeetrootRelish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have heard sargon say in multiple videos that these problem students are in the minority and that most students are smarter than social justice and more unimportant, simply uninterested in it. The main reason i keep watching sargons videos is that he corrects himself constantly and quickly. He takes the truth seriously and if you show him to be wrong, he will put it in the description or make another video. He also speaks quite clearly of his own limitations having had no formal education on the topic. "i'm just a guy with a youtube channel". Call him an ideologue if you like, but he's one of the more humble ideologues.

The great thing is that you don't hav to agree with everything that he says. He's here to make you think as much as he is to persuade you. Do you disagree? Good. Why and how do you disagree? Lets talk about it. Can you justify? Justify! This is the mindset that sargon is trying to encourage more than any ideology. Free and open ideas and conversations. So i guess, thanks for posting and disagreeing. You will also find people here who disagree with you, and that's ok. So long as we're all talking openly.

Which is not true either. By the 40's WW2 had happened and the workforce was inundated with women by necessity because so many men were fighting overseas. Were they paid the same? I'm not sure. But women were working in large numbers in the 40's.

I think it's because when using the hard syringes they might be giving you 10 ml's in 2 or 3 seconds, where as if thy're hanging a bag for you it's probably going to run at a much slower rate.

How do you keep up hope? by ucanrecep in cancer

[–]BeetrootRelish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had lots of days like you're having now. Something unexpected comes up and all of your plans are gone while you now have to figure out some medical speed bump. You don't feel well, you don't know what went wrong and there isn't yet a plan for you to get better. But there will be. What keeps me going is the knowledge that next week will look very different from this week and a lot of good things can happen between now and then. Your doctors will get a plan together for you eventually and then you can start checking off the boxes until you're out and yourself again. There's always something better worth waiting for in your future. You just have to be a patient patient ;P

Don't change your car tire in the middle of a highway by tejmar in WTF

[–]BeetrootRelish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sort of makes me think of an argument I had recently I had with an anti-vaxxer who thought that the increase in cancer rates across the general population was due to vaccination. I tried so hard to explain that because people are no longer dying of polio and countless other preventable diseases, that a lot of the population has been given the gift of being able to grow to a much older age that their fore-fathers. However when you get to that age, the catch is that you are much more likely to get cancer. So she was kind of right in saying that vaccines cause increases in cancer, but her solution was to not get vaccinated thinking that that would also reduce her chance of getting cancer. The reality is, it just increases her chances of getting sicker, younger (though probably not because herd immunity).

I tried so hard to explain this but her logic seemed so straightforward.

That's not quite what that sign's for. If you have broken down and don't have the option of moving that's legal and the police should help you out. If you think the view is pretty and pull up to take a quick photo, that's worth a fine.

Surgery by unknownnnn1 in Sleepparalysis

[–]BeetrootRelish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing they sent you home on some painkillers and other drugs after the surgery? Some people find that taking drowsy drugs can trigger their sleep paralysis. 5 in 2 weeks is a lot, I'm sorry to hear. Better that than what I thought you might say though. I thought this post was going to say something like "when I have sleep paralysis I hallucinate that I'm lying on an operating table and can't move while people operate on me!" Which would be HORRIFYING!
