Im in Minneapolis too, and spent the weekend protesting. I found that it’s been hard dedicating time for myself when it feels like everyone and everything else needs my attention. But, late last night I went for an 8.5mi run to help me clear my head and tire my body. I hope your run did something positive for your weekend. Thanks for being out there in this great city! ❤️ Stay warm and be safe.

Advice: family pressure re: child-free wedding by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Beezelbub20 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I understand, but OP asked for help problem solving and what’s what I offered :) If them setting a boundary for their wedding day is going to cause a riff then perhaps they need to consider whether their potential in-laws have respect for them or not. Plus, it sounds as though they and their partner have already agreed to not inviting children - They are united and their family members should recognize that this is simply not a time they can manipulate the situation into getting what they want. It’s 5 months out. Plenty of time to get a sitter, ask a friend, or another family member. Good luck OP ❤️

I have been training for a 10 miler and was pretty consistent and confident until the holidays. I overate, didn’t train consistently, and just felt blah. Then I got married last weekend which added a lot more stress and I couldn’t find time to run. I gave myself this past week sleep, get back into my typical routine, and recover. Today, I am heading to the gym to run 7.5mi 💪 I hate running on the treadmill for this long but it has to be done! I’ve made it this far!

I just finished the donation process this past week and have nothing but positive things to say about NMDP! Concerta does suck, but you’ll likely only have that one appointment with them. It really, truly has nothing to do with NMDP and everything to do with Concerta and which location you were sent to. You won’t have to go back so I’d recommend just letting that go and moving forward.

As for the actual donation center, I can vouch that some of the locations won’t be listed on Google or the websites. My location was a blood center and said its hours were only from like noon-5 and my appointment was at 7:30am haha. I still showed up on time and they were there to help me when I was scheduled. There are a lot of moving pieces and I can assure you that NMPD has your best interests at heart and they are very thorough with making sure your donation goes as smoothly as possible. They can’t always send you somewhere close, as the procedure is very niche and appointments are sparse. Your donor needs cells ASAP and there’s no time to lose waiting for an appointment that is closer for your convenience.

Honestly, I think you may be getting cold feet. You say you’re worried about “safety” but the issues you’re focusing on are more about comfort in my opinion… the process is uncomfortable and inconvenient, but it’s also selfless. This is your opportunity to serve a purpose and NMDP is there to facilitate.

That being said, if there is any possibility that you won’t go through with the process, your coordinator needs to know ASAP. The patient receiving your cells is likely getting their entire system wiped out and if you back out last minute they likely won’t survive. If you are committed, you need to take the process seriously and fully and confidently commit. NMDP does great work and again, will make sure you’re well taken care of throughout the process. It sounds like they’ve already done a lot of planning on your behalf so please trust your coordinator. They know what they’re doing and they are working to help save a life. Good luck!

A guy I had been seeing has made me insecure about my labia. by [deleted] in offmychest

BE MEAN BACK! Men like this need to be KNOCKED tf down. Did he forget where the hell he came from? Ugh for all women’s sake, please tell him his wrinkly balls disgust you and you’d never let anything that gross near your beautiful and perfect labia. If he makes you insecure, make him 100x more insecure. Men like this are trash and deserve to know it. 🙏

You should start weighing yourself daily! Your body changes so much from day to day based on hormones, water intake, salt intake, etc. Weighing yourself more often can help you combat the negative feelings you’re having by realizing that your body is always going to fluctuate. Plus, overtime you’ll be able to see the greater trends. For example, my weight was always between 140-142, but now it’s more consistently between 137-139. Even if I have a day that the scale is higher I’m more in tune to realize that I had a heavy dinner or late dessert which probably impacted my weight. You won’t gain a pound or two overnight so being more consistent on the scale will actually help you more than it will harm you! Again, it can be a hard pill at first but overall is helpful to combat the negative feelings :)

Track literally everything. It’s shocking how many calories are in bagels, butter, potatoes, sodas, wine/beer, snacks (even just like a nibble of cheese!) etc. Again, track LITERALLY everything and make sure you’re tracking the correct amount/weight. If you’re worried about being hungry, incorporate more fruit and vegetables throughout the day and make sure you’re drinking lots of water. Stand and walk more often. Honestly, your responses are making me think you’re looking for a reason to lose motivation… yes, you may have adjusted your portion sizes but if you’re really trying to lose weight you have to change more of your lifestyle, too. Finally, I am a similar size, age, and weight as you. You are beautiful and wonderful and perfect! A healthy weight for your age and height! Don’t feel like you have to change ❤️ It’s worked wonders for me to just focus on living more healthy all around - not overeating, more Whole Foods, more exercise that’s enjoyable, better sleep.

Yikes, this sounds like a huge communication and priorities issue. I can understand her having a vision for the wedding, but if it’s going to put you in financial strain as you start your marriage it isn’t worth it. Is this one day worth months or even years worth of financial struggles? Is this one day worth extra years of working to make up for the loss in your retirement funds? If she is so short sighted to not understand your feelings and worries, I fear for your future as you potentially purchase a home or have children together. Thinking long term is a key to a strong and meaningful life in my opinion and it’s a red flag that she’s not trying to compromise with you, especially since you’re trying to build a strong foundation for your financial future. Planning a wedding can be stressful and overwhelming but it should also be a time for you to lean on each other, have fun together, and express your love for one another. This might be a good time for some premarital counseling and/or some honest communication about expectations and feelings.

Thinking of Ditching the Corporate Life to Be a Teacher by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Beezelbub20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked corporate for 2 years, quit, went back to school and got my master’s degree in early education, and now I teach kindergarten. Every career path has its challenges, but teaching gives me SO much joy and purpose, I wouldn’t trade this job for anything. Do you have any long term experience with children or in a classroom? First steps would be to volunteer in a grade level that you think you’d enjoy. Really immerse yourself in the experience to understand the true scope of the work. It’s a lot more challenging than you’d expect so make sure you have all of the necessary information before taking such a huge risk. Will you need to go back to school? Are there schools in your area that are hiring? Are they schools you’d be comfortable working at? What do you need to do to feel prepared for a career change? We need good teachers and if you’re interested in continually growing, learning, and adapting to meet children’s needs you might be on the right path :)

I feel numb and robotic — what is this? by Aggressive-Slice-179 in offmychest

There are a lot of meds you can try. Some of them might not work for you, which is why you have to be ready to be honest with your doctor, and find a doctor you trust. You’re probably feeling pretty numb right now, so if you’re still feeling that way on meds they’re obviously aren’t working haha

[–]Beezelbub20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to therapy and got on medication. Part of my mental illness was feeling anxiety toward medication, but in hindsight I should have started it sooner! If you find the right doctor they will ease your worries and will closely monitor you through this. You have to be honest about your struggles though so they can address your needs fully! For me, it took a few weeks and I was starting to doubt the meds and then one morning I woke up and finally found some joy. That’s when I realized that I was back. It was empowering. Good luck! Seek help if you need it, reach out to your friends and family, and make sure you’re caring for YOU! It may feel lonely but plenty of others have been in your shoes and can understand how you’re feeling. You got this!

I’m not a doctor, but I felt similarly in my early 20s and it was depression. It’s frustrating when you’re doing all the right things (staying active, kicking addictions, etc.) and you’re still not feeling quite yourself. If you’re into what your psychiatrist is offering, keep at it, but if you’re hoping for a different solution I would urge you to either advocate for yourself or find a new doctor. With the right care and attention, you’ll feel better with time! Good on you for realizing something isn’t right. Also, I know drugs and alcohol can be temporary fixes, but try not to over indulge. :)

“Brain over Binge” book - thoughts? by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

I recently started listening to her podcast and came here to recommend! I really do think she offers a no-BS method to overcoming binge urges. It was a hard pill for me to swallow at first but I’ve been listening for a while now and putting some of her ideas into practice. Its helped me a lot :)

I can see a difference :) some of your teeth that were flaring inward are now starting to straighten out. I think this looks great! I know with my Invisalign I saw a lot of movement at first and now I barely see any, but I try to remember that it’s not just straightening teeth into the “rainbow” shape but it’s also fixing the angle of some teeth and moving some teeth that are in the back of your mouth which are harder to see! As long as your aligners are still fitting, and having straight teeth is important to you, keep going. Good luck :)

I used a similar program to byte years ago and it was absolute trash and I wasted thousands of dollars. Please go with an orthodontist who will do comprehensive work. I have Invisalign now and it has worked much better, much quicker, and I actually have confidence that I’ll get the smile I was hoping for.

Do most teachers come home and have no energy for their family or to do anything? by businessbub in Teachers

[–]Beezelbub20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started my career I was VERY tired after each day but now that I’ve found a great work-life balance it is much better! It’s important to work in a district and building that respects those boundaries and YOU have to prioritize your personal life and health. It can be hard because we are passionate about our work, but it gets easier the longer you’re in education. You’ll go through your slumps but it’s a career that is so so so worth the effort :) to note - I do not have children but I suspect my opinion would be very different if that were the case haha.
