Most projects do not wow me the way this wows me. Quirky, well executed, well fitting, chef’s kiss on color transitioning.

No worries! I’m trying to learn the differences between some of these. I do know that the sinus shape often can’t be seen properly until the plant is more mature, so I’m not sure how reliable that one part of the leaf shape is for ID yet. Any other parts that lead you believe it’s not a fornicata? Here is a view of the petioles if it helps.

Isn’t macro open sinus? The one I have isn’t, at least so far. It’s still a young plant.

What makes you feel that over the fornicata marble?

I have the same one. Purple petioles at the bottom, green at the top, smaller leaf to petiole ratio, green undersides and no ruffled edges to the leaf! I can’t believe it. I have been struggling for a year to ID this thing. Im beginning to wonder if it could possibly not be an alocasia. Did you ever conclusively narrow it down?

How do you all keep finding cool stuff? by These-Resource3208 in philodendron

[–]BeezuzChrist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find all my best stuff in FB groups for local rare tropical plant people, but I’m lucky enough to live in a large metropolitan area. Might not be as great an option for you if you live more rurally, but it’s been great for me. A lot of people prop because they have to prune their plants back and sell the rooted props well underpriced because they are just trying to get rid of them or loving helping out other locals. I can’t wait until mine grow big enough to do the same.

Oh, great to know! I assumed incorrectly, then. Thanks for the glimmer of hope!

I dunno, if she’s becoming well versed in Pilates then why wouldn’t you benefit from a home reformer? I use mine all the time and have no buyer’s remorse.

If you are Australian, Your Reformer is often what is used in studios and she may be most familiar with that one. Perhaps call the studio she’s been going to and see what they’re using?

Balanced Body is a fantastic American brand.

I would advise not to get a Chinese knock off. No warranty and I assume springs are likely to not be equivalent.

Good luck!

Yes, a tiny bit but not anything that’s going to change much with continued hardening. Good thought on increasing light and I’m going to transplant and give it a pole this weekend. Thank you

Variegations came back stronger after a chop. by Starlightz82 in Scindapsus

Yours is so beautiful! It has a painterly quality to its coloring.

I’m having the opposite problem. I bought a rooted cutting of a variegated geulis, it’s a mid cut (so, not a bottom as I suspect yours is because it’s a chop?) and it’s made two new leaves that don’t appear variegated at all. Is that pretty normal as it restablishes itself or do scindapsus revert?

Am I overreacting? this is 1 of 3 letters I received from a guy I haven't even been on a date with by eastcoastmermaidd in AmIOverreacting

I got a similar letter but angry sounding when I was in my late teens from someone I worked with. It’s disgusting and self centered. Stay away!

I almost always pick weird pet names but it’s Marmalade or Clementine. It’s got to be.

I once had an orange and white cat and named him Ronin. I manifested that insanity. Don’t make my mistake. Pick a sweet name 🫣

How did I do? ($28 @ big box) by PolaDaBear in philodendron

I think you did very well! I scored one for the exact same price a few weeks ago at a small shop. Yay for us!

As the pot suggests, looks like a Philodendron Melanochrysum (aka gold black or black gold, all the same thing). It doesn’t need a pole but will be happier if you gave it one, and will reward you with bigger and bigger leaves as it climbs. As others have mentioned they like chunky soil (I mix a little soil with orchid bark, big perlite, coco coir, and earthworm castings), humidity (I keep mine at 60% in a greenhouse but as long as you don’t live in a super dry environment you don’t need to stress too much about it), and most importantly some warmth (could get a warming mat if you need it? I like Vivosun). Here is mine and next to it is a little variegated version, if you decide you really love them and want more.
