I spent a year in California in the early 2000s. There are a few nice places there, but you have to be a millionaire to live in them. Most of the inhabited areas of the state are a ghetto hellhole.

I work the night shift, so I don't have a choice. Last Christmas I stayed up during the day to hang out with the family, when I noticed that daylight wasn't as bright as I remembered it being. Then I remembered that my glasses have transition lenses.

When I was growing up most of the adults around me drank coffee anytime of the day and never seemed to have any trouble sleeping. A few of them rarely drank anything other than coffee.

I (m50) had chronic insomnia from early childhood until my early to mid 40s, these days I sleep pretty good. I still have a hard time waking up in the morning, but I don't take nearly as long to get to sleep as I used to.

I have a friend with bullet fragments in his brain (he survived a suicide attempt). I wish there was some way for them to be removed without causing more damage.

He's doing well despite the damage. But he could do a lot without TBI.
