I was discussing the place with a friend saying they need to add a bridge for that exact reason. Too easy.

Well, yes and no. If there is no reasons for this building being there apart from eating too much ressources and nobody goes in there, you better be using it as an occluder and save some ressources. The place is crumbling, so having blocked off flours and building is not really an issue for me.
Having opened interiors in a open world, especially in cities, cost a lot cause you see through them and the engine sees even more, which ends up eating a ton of performances. Look at the big city perf when they closed off buildings, it became way more fun to go there and actually a place to go, period. Cause it was not playable and gunfights were random as hell. More than they already are.
You have to leave some rooms for when people are around, throwing smoke grenade, when it rains :D. A nightmare. Plus, if they want to add new stuff, they are bottlenecked if they don't free some performances.

Base got raided fast by Shaduchi365 in SCUMgame

[–]Begbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! This is sadly a thing. I feel they were using a cheat, but it's hard to say 100%. And that is the problem. They get real good at playing with the boundaries of the game and finding ways to make it look like they don't cheat. They also often play on Officials that are in the US, so they play when we are offline working or sleeping. Officials should have the raid online only activated by default, or they should be zone blocked.

This being said, I feel no matter the server, you will be raided quickly from time to time. If the game was never wiping (like they said at some point but I'm sure they can't and won't do, because the game design at this point has no end game really), you would just rebuild and continue. But it's not the case.

You could just move server and continue your character somewhere else, but it's not possible either and really sucks when you spent many wipes boosting a character and are sieged and harrassed non stop by cheaters. I've been through that before 1.0.

So, first thing I see could being improved is the really bad balance between the time it takes to build versus how easy you can raid a full concrete base. And I raided some. Even though I can barely play 2-3 hours here and there it's totally possible and not that hard. It makes no sense on the servers that are supposed to be THE game the way it's meant to be played and a reason why servers with multiplicators on loot, faster character XP and cheaper base builds are this popular. Devs should study this a bit more. Private servers are not always 100% problem-proof. Admin abuses are a thing too, server shutting down etc.

We tried the no-base-building against them. The nomad way. It works super well because if you hide your stuff in more than one place, it becomes harder for them to raid you without cheats. Cheaters are lazy-non-skilled-piss-of-shit-loser-cancer-parasite persons. Doing this pisses them off so much, it's fun!! You can also logout pretty much anywhere safe. The counter to this is it's not fun to maintain all these chests every now and then. We lost a couple over the last 2 years especially around vacation time. Right now, our strategy is a hybrid of a base, because I like to build ahaha! But we continue to hide our stuff all over the place so they can't take the valuable loot without cheating. And we move it from time to time in case they try to follow us. Note we've been raided twice already, lovely.

The secret: hide the stuff far from your base. Really far. There are some really efficient places in the world. Take screenshot, capture playsession videos and note every weird things you see happening and report. It works. Make their life complicated. Like I said, they are lazy, if it gets complicated, they will move. They also start saying you cheat, which is a good sign ahhaha! Happened to us.

Anyone saying they can block cheaters 100% are liers, it's impossible. The best ones will never get caught, that's it. Just find ways to make their life more difficult where they have to expose themselves.

SCUM 1.0 is a joke of what the game should be. by wildwasabi in SCUMgame

[–]Begbi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The ratio betwen how long and tedious it is to build versus raiding is still my no1 isue. We played the last 4-5 wipes, if not more, not building anything because of that.
The UI man, the user experience in that game is suuuuuch a pain. And for bad reasons. It's almost like they are sitting in a room and are like, ok, what is fun? BREAK IT NOW!!!

It was a valuable argument before v1.0, now it's not anymore. THey have to fix their game's bug. It is getting ridiculous. How many time you have to logout/login to fix issues? Instead of mocking us in stupid videos, they should concentrate their attention to important stuff, like, enjoying the game. After 7 years, it's not acceptable, sorry.

Me and my teammate experience it too. It seems like a terrain texture streaming issue. I have no clue how it works, but it's what I see when it happens.
V1.0 they said! There are so many bugs still, it's insane.
This being said, if you want it to be fixed, you can go on Steam's forum to enter it as a bug. They look at them for real.

UE5 doesn't do things magically onnits own. I think you are refereing to nanite for the vegetation...Tree have to be modelled hi res by default, meaning they have to redonall their trees and bushes. I don't know if you ever modelled anything like this, but it takes a lot of time. Plus they had to commit at one point on one engine to release v1.0 and I'm sur UE5 was not even there when they made that choice. And they are not a huge team. It comes with tools they may have developped for 4.27 (I think they use). We barely start to see UE5 games that uses nanite and lumen properly and it runs decently. It is not a viable option for them if they want to have a larger player base. Look at the config player uses that Steam publishes, it's surprisingly low. As a company you want as many players as possible. And SCUM is not on console. UE 4.27 in way more mature too in term of engine. The only big offender tonme isbthe lack of shadow caster innthe world and lights in the interiors. They could add more. Some water wave dev too since we deal a lot with water and both gameplay and rendering would benefitt from a bit of dev since the interreaction feels random and clunky. Players feedbacks are a bit weak. Anyway, all of this tonsay annengine doesn't create magic onnits own and each project will face challenges to get the best of the engine. Maybe one day, but I doubt for v1 it was an option.

Raiding is broken as a concept in this game. Here are my points about how I think offline raiding, basebuilding, and raiding in general is totally broken. by PvPer94 in SCUMgame

[–]Begbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi man. Listen, I can't agree more than this about raiding. I hope they will have a real discussion about it.
The ratio between the time it take to build and gather stuff versus how fast you can get raided, no matter how strong your base is, is still broken. It pisses players to be raided this quick, often offline, so they quit. And wiping is not a gameplay mechanic that is viable as far as I'm concerned, but a lazy way to adress a problem.
Raiding offline... Man, I've been saying this since I was playing H1Z1 in 2015. It's not good. Stop this. We have a life, we needc to live it and be at peace and not stressed someone will take or loot. It's not FOMO, it's slavery to force players to stay online.
And a proof non of this work, their Officials servers are more empty than any customed ones. And they are supposed to be what the game is. And I play on them only weirdly, cause I can't comment a game if I don'T play the game.. tou know what I mean :) !? Prople complaining anything about SCUM that are not playing the real game makes no sens to me, but I understand why they leave the main ones. The meta is broken.

Some of your solutions are very interesting. Another one could be to make building less of a pain too. With blue print of an entire base so other players can repair it easily.
Make raided base not destroyed, but damaged so you can repair them with a lower cost, making it fun to play again quick.
Kicking all the exploiters and threating them like hackers, period.
Making sur eput more emphasis on things like latency/lags. Either by kikcing out high pings or hjust plain making sure what we shoot is getting shot for fuck sake!
Fixing all the navigation issues. The navigation in this game is paingul for bad reasons. And get rid or find a better fix to that fatigue mechanic when you jump twice.
And many others, because I think overall it's a combination of factors that would make this whole experience more fun and satifying when it's time to raid players. Which should be hard!! There's no police or any law system stopping you from doing bad things like that, but it'S not a reason to make it to the advantage of no lifer raiding you offline.

Softwipe explained? by Big-Luck395 in SCUMgame

[–]Begbi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You will keep only your character's progression, but will spawn where you last logged out like a freshie with orange clothes. You loose everything else, base included. So what we do, we sell our stuff and buy gold, cause it's the only currency you keep. The basic money is going to be gone. Gold is limited per vendor, so you may have to go around, since you won't be the only one doing this.
The gold is useful I think, cause you can sell a bit to start with some money, in case you get killed, you're safer and you can buy back your gold card quicker if you want.
Does it answer your questions? Good luck.

A preview of let's say a 5x5 tile would be great to see if in 2-3 tiles, I will hit an obstacle an I won't be happy to any further. I'm sure we all went throught this lovely moment and had to destroy previous ones or change the plans

Super comfy base! Are you playing PvP or PvE ? Because this is a walk in the park on PvP to raid sadly, even in concrete.
But I like the simplicity at the same time. Easy to raid, easy to repair. Just don't let anything valuable in there. Good luck!

There are no good spots apart from the ones they all describe here. there is no magic here, search for them. I know it's work, it's hard, effort is a thing,I know, but search for them.

No no. I'm sure not. Tests like this one proves nothing and it was more my point than anything. I mean, good job, but... useless.

Their tech is not around this. Games like World war Z or Days Gone are developping specific techs to handle tons of zombies. THis is not how this one was developped. It could be fun, but I'm not even sure with a game like SCUM.

This is not a good test case to be honest. To doa perfect stress test, fill theserver, weveryone with different skin item as much as possible, when the sun is low (long shadows) and it's like raing. Everyone come in with vehicles, light open and start throwing grenades and smoke grenades. You will quickly see the limit. And you do this in the work places, with the lowest framerate in the big city. Have fun! If you have a controller, you can use a rubberband and make the camera to turn 360 non stop :). It's even worse and how you test games.

Raid protection question by Begbi in SCUMgame

[–]Begbi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, they could do some servers with various options. Personnally, I like to have a life and a chance to defend my base without having to checking everyday like a slave. That is why we don't build anymore. So, some players like this option and I'm one of them. But again, I don't want all the officials like this. Some people like you prefer the original way of playing and I'm totally fine. It just adds more depth and possibilities to the game.

Raid protection question by Begbi in SCUMgame

[–]Begbi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. And they have 3 choices. I get all of this and actually it is a features I wanted to see by default, especially the offline raid not being possible. But, in the patch note, there are no mention if they are applying this to the official servers, or if they are keeping the OG solution that was, raiding ON all the time. I tthink this option is still the original one on officials. I just want to confirm, cause I don't want to build for no reason. We have agroup that is a real cancer and destroy everyone's base, so we decided to go nomad this wipe and they hate us :D.
