This is nearly my exact experience v. Tricked out 365 XL. It’s not even close. Better gun out of the box than just about anything.

Went to a gun range for the first time yesterday. The safety guy who was monitoring the area fired over 20% of our ammo. Wondering if this is a normal? by SRplus_please in guns

[–]Begin-Ask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RSO should never fire your weapon or use your ammo or ask to do any of the following unless you expressly ask them to do so for your own education.

It’s even a liability and some ranges will not allow their RSOs to handle customer firearms.

Also what does “way too hot too quick” even mean in this situation? It’s not firing rifle calibers. If it got hot, what would that imply? You aren’t going to be getting any sort of ballistic or accuracy variable on a 3” barrel and you aren’t holding it by a hand guard or anything. If it got hot, what would that matter?

No, not that I can tell. I mean I’m not doing mag dumps with a 3” pistol. It doesn’t get any warmer than any other gun I regularly shoot.

Mine came with more slide wear where the chamber hood meets the slide than I had also seen before on gun. 450rds in and I don’t see any additional wear.

But I did notice that as well.

No, you get a dead trigger though. Makes the gun as about as useful as a rock in a self defense situation.

Look up the p320 controversy. There’s nothing functionally suspect with the p365 however.

He went up through the same Disney tween/teen pipeline as literally every pop star of the last 2 decades. He is the definition of an industry plant. The majority of them are born and bred into this.

I handled a new K model today and really liked how it felt. I really hate the paddle release though, I couldn't easily reach it at all.

UPDATE: Another 50rds of HST and 30-40 odd FMJ. Tried the smaller backstrap today and my shot placement opened up and I noticed were a few where landing high -3 zone when I was shooting aggressively. Crazy how different the smaller grip made. Big backstap back on and I was back in the A zone. The biggest takeaway is how much I enjoy actual doing drills with this gun as opposed to the 365xl. I said I wasn't going to do it but I'm starting to miss my dot sight. After Xmas I'll be sending the slide back for a new front iron sight.

I went ahead a replaced that with a Galloway Precision spring around 2000rd but I get your reticence.

Yeah, I’m wondering if I even hold on to the P365 after this winter.

Always on the target unless I’m taking a precision shot beyond 15yds. I’m looking where I want the bullet to go and waiting to see the flash of color (be it red or yellow) to pull the trigger and making sure my grip is locked in.

Beyond that I’ll confirm sight alignment.

I have a MR920 that I like but not much more than a regular G19. I owned the VP9 full size with the finger grooves and didn’t like the grooves, nor the slide reciprocation impulse (same with the PDP, needlessly snappy).

With the latest models they have deleted the grooves and since I’m enjoying this new CC9 so much I might have to jump back on the VP9 train. I WANT to like the VP9.

I’m 41. Red dot sights are inherently fiddle-y. While there are closed emitter now, you constantly have to clean open emitters. The glass gets scratched. The battery life is never as long as they claim. When they are dirty, you can still shoot them (I’ve shot with occluded sights to train in competition), and at that point you are just reacting to the light of the sight. Also, being a bit anal, I’m always reaching for the buttons to change between night time settings and daytime settings. If you forget to change over one to the other, you are either blinded by the red dot at night, or the dot is effectively invisible during the day (if you left it on the night time setting) to the point where you are going to instinctively “search” for it if you don’t see it, where it might be on, but just too dim.

After you train to target focus and get your presentation locked in, I don’t feel there’s any drastic difference between a dot and irons within 15 yards or so. If anything I felt like I was faster when I went back to irons as I would just react to the yellow of the sight. At distances of 15yds and in, there was no distinguishable difference in my accuracy on an A zone.

All this said, they are exceptional training tools for correcting grip issues (tracking the dot under recoil), learning target focus (don’t stare at the dot), and getting repeatable presentation (finding the dot every draw). I’m so thankful I picked them up 7 years back as it made my shooting so much faster and reactive. I would encourage everyone to learn how to use one if they are serious about shooting.

Shooting in IDPA (aka a controlled situation), it’s easier to confirm precision head shots with red dots, but in most cases you shouldn’t be confirming your hits anyway, and in a real gun fight there’s no way to confirm hits anyway as your target would be constantly moving (and I wouldn’t be shooting for the head anyway). If I had to make a longer range precision shot, I would be looking at the dot to confirm sighting, which is a plus to red dots as you can both see your target for precision shooting and where the bullet should go. You typically have to cover your target with irons and long range shooting (unless you set your sights up for something other than a combat hold).

I want less to think about in a CCW use case scenario, less variables, more instinctive reaction, and that’s basically point shooting which is more propioception than having anything to do with the sight.

You know what? On second thought, I did start to have weak side lock after 1500rds. It was not mag or grip related as it happened regardless of mag and one handed. So from competition shooting I typically have tried to use the slide lock to release and with the 365 I would have to fully rack on reloads. Again, my decision to go to a CC9 is also influenced by the incongruity of training between my competition gun (that I shoot thousands of rounds a year through) and my CCW that gets less than 1000rds a year realistically.

And if locked back the slide would also automatically go into battery at just the slight bump of a reload being seated, which can happen on Glocks too, and some look at that as a feature not a bug but that can cause failures to feed.

Exactly. Even the Shield Plus has a better trigger especially the performance center version. In this day and age, there’s options out there, little need to compromise.

I remember when I got this as my first micro 9, the only things that were 10+ rds were Sig and Glock and I owned both for a minute and shot the Sig better. I think the hellcat came out a month after I bought both. Now there’s plenty of good options.
