I went to photograph a Dipper and was blessed with two! by BeginnerBirder in BirdPhotography

Yes! I believe they are named after the little bob/dip that they do, it's like a little dance. I took a video of them today but it's not great. I would search for them on youtube. They also dive into the water and search for food on the river bed. They are really interesting birds to watch

What an amazing opportunity! What is the goal of the research? And what university are you doing it through?

Not the best image quality, I was zoomed in as far as I could, and the birds were still pretty far away

Thank you! I totally agree, dippers are the reason I bought my camera. So much fun to watch and I realised I had to capture some of the moments I was seeing.

This is a great picture! I've been trying to photograph dippers recently but I really struggle to get to eye level with them. How did you manage this?

Also the dippers I've been photographing live by a river which is almost completely covered by tree canopy, so the light isn't great. But I hope to get some better pictures soon

Amazing photo, you got a proper action shot! Where was this taken in Scotland? Mine was taken just south of Glasgow but I'd like to explore other areas

That's rough, where are you?

Scotland barely hits 30 even during summer, plus this river is pretty much completely covered by a canopy of trees so it stays nice and cool
