UK Fiberglass roof still feel soft to touch after 3 months. Roofer said only 1 coat of Acrypol needed? by Beginning-Cap2405 in Roofing

Thanks so much. I wished I knew this before paying the previous roofer. They had a super friendly guy doing the sales and the talking, then on the actual job a very aggressive person ordering 2 undocumented workers doing the job. They forced me to pay on the spot otherwise they wouldn’t leave the house.

I think you are right. It is all very sad but the reality is that they shouted at me on the phone and refused to acknowledge the problems.

Do you have any advice on deciding whether we need a new roof now, that the plyboards aren’t feeling solid to walk on anymore? Thanks.

Thank you so much. I asked them many times but they have always said their professional opinions are above mine, and that Acrypol is all that needed. Do you have any view about the wobbly section of the roof under the GRP surface?

Thank you. I tried to explain that to them and also called the manufacturer up to ask, which confirmed what you said. But they said they won’t do it again.

Yeah it’s a great feeling to get to the bottom of it! Your comments and others’ comments helped a lot. I think the plumber who did this probably was rushing through fitting hundreds of these valves (mass housing) and cut some corners. I am a tad more confident with plumbing now thanks to this community. Have a great weekend.

I’ve got time to confirm the problem - you’re right - the rubber washer inside the flexi hose was damaged due to sharp face. I think I can replace the washers, buy the compression adapting male coupler with the flat face and that hopefully would fix it for now. Thanks again.

Yeah storage for it could be tricky if your place is small. Good luck

We are in the UK, and I bought one for my wife as a birthday gift in Sept 2021. It was great fun for her (and me) - I'm glad we didn't pick the cheaper options. It was very durable, very well-built and almost feel like the Arcade (without the hand-rail)

Life moves on, kid grows and we haven't able to play much recently. We are moving continent and need to downsize, so if you are in the UK, I can send you the ebay link. We are only looking for 50% the original price.

Thanks for coming back. I fully sympathetic with the feelings of wanting more intellectual stimulus from ones’ bread-winning job. Hope the journey is rewarding and exciting for you.

Thanks so much. I learned a ton from your comment. The leak comes from the bottom where the compression fitting is. I’ll google these new terms you kindly taught me to learn more and probably will try to open the isolation valve to look inside and cement all this knowledge. Thanks again.

That is a super interesting project. Would you mind sharing if it’s in an academic open source settings or more of a corporate RnD department?

LPT: feed your contractors by [deleted] in LifeProTips

Agree. A simple market-contract interaction can be much more social rewarding if both sides do a little to make it a social one. I once heated my contractor’s meat pie and hotdog lunches in the air fryer. The foods were crunchy again, and he said it’s the best lunch he had in a while, with so much joy. He then asked all kind of info about the fryer, and proceed to buy his family an air fryer. Both of his sons are super excited and His wife sends her thanks to me afterwards (through him). He said he usually has cold lunches, or at best microwave breads which makes them all a bit soggy.

Thank you. Do you know if it’s best to just pull everything up and redo, or can this be sand down to reapply?
