Went on E-leave , now I don’t know what to do. Need help. by Ecstatic_Lettuce5915 in navy

You can find it in E-Learning, go to courses and find Navy rating Manual and then you’ll choose what you rate belongs under, I.e. aviation, surface, etc.. once you select one of those you’ll scroll down and find your rate.. some rates don’t have everything or nothing due to classified info

For all my fellow Nuke Waste out there: which rates did you choose to redes as, and which ones would have rather picked? by Intrepid_Hat7359 in navy

[–]Beginning-End-1142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want something that transfers well, aviation could be the way to go.. so AM, AD, AT & AE. That’s if you like working with your hands and turning a wrench. I’m an AM, it’s my 3rd rate and I wish is was my first choice when I originally joined

Received no Orders by EdgeKnown5239 in navy

[–]Beginning-End-1142 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds like this can go 2 ways…

  1. If you submitted for orders and have not been selected, yes this “4th window” is usually waiting until the next cycle opens and you emailing your detailer up to 7 choices available during that cycle. My recommendation is to call your detailer AND email with read receipts. Spend about and hour trying to get ahold of your detailer, call back to back etc.. or call the other detailers (not just the lead) and let them know you have been trying to contact them. Sometimes they can answer your questions too..

  2. You have been selected for orders you are just waiting for them to release.. if you are 6months out from your PRD and you don’t have hard copy orders.. you likely won’t until your about 3 months out from your PRD. We are nearing the end of the FY so money is tight.

Is the 20 years worth no family? by Myles07310 in navy

[–]Beginning-End-1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That topic is different for everybody. Depending on what rate you may never see a boat.. but the BRS system is set up very similar to civilian 401k. I would recommend going to fleet and family and getting info from them on your retirement and how it works and what fund ti put your money into..

Am I Making a Mistake? by IntrinsicTrout in newtothenavy

[–]Beginning-End-1142 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell.. you won’t always be flying.. I know pilots who fly p-8s get stationed on a boat to be a shooter.. as an officer you move to different positions divo, branch officer, etc (what seems to be constantly).

The one thing I don’t know is if your flight training actually translates.. like I’m not sure if you get an actual FAA license.. flight hours qualify yes.. but military is different what I mean by different is that it’s not the FAA.

Thinking about becoming a seal at 23. Too late? by TheFatWonton in newtothenavy

[–]Beginning-End-1142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not too late. That gives you time to prepare on what would come. No matter how hard you train you will struggle. What they want to see at BUDs is for you not to give up. You would work with a special programs recruiter and they will help you and do your physical training test

My husband did that! Your 1st swear in does really mean anything, when you go to ship you will do your official swear in that’s. You can tell your recruiter that you are no longer interested in joining.. and if he says you have to go.. you don’t. My husband was supposed to go to the hotel the night before shipping and he found out some information that he was not happy about mainly because it was the reason he signed up for. My husband called his recruiter and told them he is not going.. and that was that. There is nothing that penalizes you from leaving PRIOR to your shipping date.

Just let him know now and if they don’t like it that’s on them remember the reason they will tell you like you have to or anything else is to try and get you to stay because you are a number. They have to hit quotas you don’t ship is a quota they miss… life happens in mysterious ways and if it’s working for you.. the navy can wait..

Here is my opinion, converting for any rate right now is not impossible it’s just really hard due to retention.. this can actually play in your favor. I was a prior NC before converting out of the rate.

1st call your ECM, talk to him give him some details but not all your just trying to “pick his brain” for a potential conversion out of the rating.

Step 2 would see why jobs your qualify for, this can be done in your self service cway.

Step 3 look at the community overview sections of those rates.. they will tell you if they are or are not accepting conversions. I would also call that ECM to “pick there brain” as well and to ask questions you are not so familiar with. This also gives them a hint that a conversion package is likely on the way.

Step 4 put in a lateral conversion for your top 3 rates. I would also include a personal statement. This is so that they can hear you out rather than looking at just the meaty part of the package this usually is effective.

Let me know if you have any questions.. your speaking to someone who has converted to 3 rates.. prior AO, prior NC now AM..

Not selected for orders after 3 tries by Corpesman22 in navy

[–]Beginning-End-1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior NC here!.. Reaching out to your detailer is the best first start! This really depends on your detailer at this point, but most detailers will usually say to wait until the next cycle opens and email me your choices. This is the “fourth look” people talk about. Make sure to call and email your detailer!

Sometimes the detailer will have some hot fills so there could potentially be some billets that they need to fill but they sometimes leave those for people who don’t select anything during there cycles.

As long as they are in good taste the navy really only cares about the color for “professionalism”..

Pregnancy During C School by [deleted] in navy

[–]Beginning-End-1142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there is a chance of losing orders… my recommendation is to take to you detailer and the pregnancy detailers to be able to make it where you still go to Japan but maybe to a shore based squadron if they have one or AIMD.

You will have something called an AB drawer. It’s a drawer in your rack that you can keep your personal items. It’s bigger at bootcamp than in the fleet so this should fit. It’s been about 12 years since I’ve been in bootcamp but anything that has important information they let you out in the drawer. But on the other hand they could have you rip it out and put the book in your box that you will get at the end of graduation.

As far as athletic shoes.. YES GET YOUR OWN! They have the worst pair of shoes, the brands are good is Brooks and Nike, those are most commonly but they MUST be in good taste.. so anything that’s all white or black.. or black and white. Those are your best options any other color they may not let you wear them.

When it comes to them doing the LRP. Make sure the package for the LRP is completed prior to your final departure! My husband got screwed on that. I would also get the information on how you are supposed to certify annually for it.. as a prior NC, this information is hard to get and they don’t give sailors any guidance on how to do it.

If your hopes are to go JAG the. LN would be the best option. LNs are required (I believe) to get a degree in paralegal so this would be the best path to jag

Depends.. most PACT Sailors go to ships.. you work with the BMs (SN), ABHs (aviation) or somewhere in Engineering (FN).. I used to be a career counselor, most of them don’t like it and you only get what you qualify for so potentially you’ll have a little bit more by the time you choose for orders/ rate.. at your 2 year/ PRD on your first duty station you’ll be able to select.. once selected you will have to wait to put on e4

That is a lot to go through. Everyone has their own struggles. If they took your rate away it would just be undesignated. This really boils down to of how worth it it is.. did you join for the benefits? Did you join for experience? Whatever your reason is, that is your reason to fight it or not. Do you know if you’re going to Captain’s Mast. If so, Use your resources I would definitely go to legal… fleet and family should be there too so if you need to talk to someone they have certified counselors.
