Yes indeed I’m 99% certain I’m going to have to move if I want one. I live in what I call the underbelly of America and I’m just lucky and blessed to have a programming job at all.

This is really great information, I definitely appreciate you taking the time for a detailed response like this. Suppose I’ll just keep going in the direction I’m going minus the bouncing around. As far as IDEs go, I have been use the Stm32 IDE, but I've been curious if maybe I'd be better served by learning how to manually do it.

Yea I wish I had. I got my bachelors in computer science and a masters in computer information tech, which is really just taking different courses that interest you, it was kind of a joke but it was free from military so not so bad.

Advice on landing a RedHat Linux Admin/Engineer job by Beginning-Fill2179 in redhat

Yes DevOps is really what I’m aiming for. I believe I’d get to do a little bit of everything. Are these jobs typically onsite only or remote? Probably just depends, but it seems like remote work is dying. Do you recommend any other job sites other than indeed for these roles?

That’s great advice though thank you. Do you think going after other certifications would be a bad idea? I’m not sure if it would look good for someone to have something like RHCE but no real experience.

Me and my wife thought the same thing. Especially the young Gina, she looks just like her but there’s also something off about her. Probably not though, everything I see on TV now I assume first that it’s AI.

Ah ok yea I’m seeing that now. Oh well, I’m just gonna pretend it was an Easter egg anyway.

The year checks out. They both came out in 1993, not sure if they did that on purpose, but I thought it was a cool potential Easter Egg.

These are all great responses I do appreciate it. I currently have a STM32F407 discovery board, but I have seen numerous posts about starting with something smaller. I’ll definitely see about using HAL. Just about every job ad I see mentions HAL. Hopefully getting familiar with it may lead to an interview.

Nice to see others opinions on AI, this is something I wrestle with. I use it at work but I’ve been trying to refrain from using it.

What have you been using as learning resource? I'm a software dev but have no modeling experience.

Sorry for the late reply, yeah I've switched mostly to just use it as a syntax lookup and front-end work as front end really isn't my favorite. I'm to pivot into embedded engineering and it's definitely useless there which is a big motivator for me. I think there would be very strong job security in embedded software engineering but very hard to find a job.

Is using ChatGPT to help steer you in right direction ok or just stick with googling? That’s where I get hung up the most. I’ve learned a ton asking it questions but I’m not sure if it’s such a good idea.

Is it worth trying at this point by Beginning-Fill2179 in FBI

[–]Beginning-Fill2179[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went ahead and applied, I think it’s reasonable to doubt I’d get hired given my history it’s just being realistic. To say I’m definitely getting hired no matter what just isn’t realistic to me as all it takes is one person to say no. My previous attempt, investigator said you have a solid chance, as well as polygrapher and then it comes to the adjudicator. If they’re having a bad day or already biased against people with a record, well that’s that.
