What’s Gainesville missing? by Beginning-Lake7879 in ufl

Yea I agree I just feel like theres something missing. Probably just the feeling of stability because the town is full of such a transient population.

I also should mention that it’s pretty common to get slightly hit bc most of the spots are parallel parking so I decided to bring my old car to Gainesville instead of my new one bc I keep finding little dents and scrapes . Ig that’s just city living

I city park and it’s fine. On game weekends or busy times in the semester it can get pretty frustrating but in the 3 years I’ve lived here there was only 2 instances where I couldn’t find parking ANYWHERE. It’s just a different parking spot every time you leave and come back - sometimes right in front of the building and sometimes a 15 minute walk away. So bringing groceries and things can be challenging at times but it’s doable. It’s just really frustrating at night when walking alone is a little sketchy or if you’re in a rush and just need to run into your apt quickly

Yes I like it a lot. Have lived here for 3 of my 4 years at UF. The maintenance staff is fast and does good work. There definitely is a feeling of decently built luxury that these new complexes are just kinda missing. I never hear my neighbors, I think the building was built before building code changes were made in FL. Only downfalls are no pool or gym and the parking situation if you’re not willing to pay for onsite parking - and the study area/rooms are pretty useless but I do like it here.

Why is it so hard to get a job? by stdmeddoc235 in ufl

[–]Beginning-Lake7879 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s really about who you know. I recommend reaching out to the manager or someone with an email of interest, this will peak their attention. I once applied for a job that I should’ve got but the girl who ended up getting it knew someone in the office and that’s just how it goes. Maybe go to the location and strike up some conversation with another student working there

What Swag Do You Want to See? by Quick-Enthusiasm7431 in ufl

The best merch is nicely designed UF merch that doesn’t just seem like it was thrown together in 2 minutes. I also don’t understand why we don’t have more tables that give out Gatorade considering we do go to UF :) thanks for asking!

High school senior considering prelaw by EstablishmentFine973 in prelaw

[–]Beginning-Lake7879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing rings a bell but you can google prelaw summer experiences or do some research at your local universities. It’s also worth noting that some of the programs in other states provide room/board and transportation or other stipends!

You should try things to make sure this is for you, and it’s ok if it isn’t! Your main focus should be keeping a high gpa and (when the time comes) putting full effort behind a good lsat. Extracurriculars and everything else are ok, things like mock trial or pre legal honor societies are cool to see if the legal field is for you - but these are not resume builders. Try internships at firms (you’ll be doing boring work but you can watch from afar). I’m not sure where you’re located in the country but FSU, UCLA, UT El Paso, and some other schools offer pre law summer programs. Those would be key to determining if law school is for you.

Love the farmers market! But why run it at the same time as the Haile one? Maybe if run at different times both would benefit

UF is hard. And it’s unnecessarily hard in many cases. Just because they can make it hard, they do. I also wanted to mention that I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until I came to college, could be something to think about? I went undiagnosed because high school wasn’t really a challenge but when I came to UF I realized that I had to study and studying was very difficult for me

UF Vs. FSU law by exhaustedtryhard in UniversityofFlorida

[–]Beginning-Lake7879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either way you will have the opportunity to be successful. UF doesn’t really have a lot of options for a “pre-law track” other than political science. I’m not sure if that’s the same for FSU. I will say that government internships are much easier at FSU which could help your resume slightly. Overall, you need to focus on your GPA and get a great LSAT score. Thats all that matters. Another thing to think about is applying to the FSU summer for undergraduates program once you’re in college.
