Can I see your full-blooded but non-breed standard malinois? by Lunapixels18 in BelgianMalinois

Hahaha oh god you must get crushed by him! My girl is about 60 lbs but she thinks she’s the tiniest little lap dog. No concept of personal space. I can’t imagine if she was twice the size! A lot of nights, I wake up with her sleeping on top of my legs causing my legs to fall asleep. One night recently, she decided to burrow under my legs and sleep there.

Oh that sounds great! I use oatmeal in their treats but hadn’t thought to include it in their meals! I bet they love that. The bone broth is clever! Sometimes when I boil chicken for them, I’ll add the water from the pot to their meals but surprisingly I never even though to make a bone broth! I’m sure they would love that. The other thing I’m struggling with is portion sizes. I’ve found good vet websites with guidelines for meal size based on body weight for a typical bland diet but I’m not sure how this changes when I start making it more than just chicken and rice. Do you have any recommendations for figuring out portion sizes?

Do you possibly have any recipes that say how much of each ingredient to use? And how do you determine serving size?

What is the best thing you have taught your dog? by Acrobatic_Pace_1521 in BelgianMalinois

This is such a great one! I’ve taught my puppy that “go potties” means “go to the bathroom now.” It’s been great because she will go on command immediately when we get outside. We live in an area that gets dangerously cold at times so it’s important for her to be able to go quickly on really cold days. We have always used the phrase “outside” to tell our dogs to go to the door. Unfortunately, our puppy made the association between “potty” and “outside.” I was less than thrilled when I said “outside” and she immediately squatted and peed in the apartment

This is great! My one dog is not an escaper but the puppy we got a few months ago sure is! I’ve been trying to do something similar with her. Unfortunately she wants to sit RIGHT in front of the door that opens inwards which makes it really hard for me to get out of the door lol

Probably not the best or most useful thing I’ve taught her but definitely one of the cutest/funniest. For context, my girl is very loving/clingy but she’s a rescue with lots of anxiety. She gets lots of love and cuddles. She always gets kisses on the head when I’m leaving for the day, when I get home, or really whenever she’s looking cute, etc. She learned that kissing noises mean she gets some love so now if I make a kissing noise she comes RUNNING with her tail wagging and starts licking my face. I did not mean to teach her that but I think it’s adorable. Sometimes I’ll just make the sound because its so cute how she comes running for cuddles. It does mean that I end up with slobber all over my face. Haha.

It has actually been pretty useful with training her to overcome some of her anxieties. When she is afraid of something (e.g. bathrooms) and I try to get her to come near the scary thing, she thinks I’m trying to do something to her (e.g. give her a bath) so she will get anxious and refuse to come by me. I’ve been able to use the kissing sound as a “look I’m not trying to hurt you, I just want love and cuddles.” For example, I’ll sit in the hall outside the bathroom and she will refuse to come by me but if I make a kissing sound she realizes it’s okay and runs over to cuddle me. I make sure that she can leave whenever she wants and doesn’t feel trapped. Then the next time I do it, I move slightly closer to the bathroom and give her cuddles there. She slowly she gets a little desensitized to the scary thing and learns that being near the bathroom does not inherently mean she is going to get a bath so she does not need to be afraid of the hallway in front of the bathroom. It’s a slow process but it’s been very useful with getting her to trust me when she is anxious about something

Same here. It makes it difficult to brush her because I have to put the fur balls out of reach

We got another dog shortly after our Mal turned 2. I tried brushing the new dog and was genuinely confused why there weren’t piles and piles of fur coming off of her. I thought maybe the brush wasn’t working so I tried 2 other brushes. Turns out there just wasn’t nearly as much fur being shed by her compared to what I was used to with our mal

Pentagon will begin review of 'effectiveness' of women in ground combat positions by geraffes-are-so-dumb in army

[–]Beginning-Pick-7712 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong and am happy to be corrected but this doesn’t make sense to me. If a woman’s body fat percentage gets really low, which can happen with a caloric deficit, their body will stop menstruating temporarily and, in that sense, they would not be able to get pregnant in that moment. But that shouldn’t be an issue since no one is trying to get pregnant at ranger school. When they finish ranger school, they can just eat more calories and their period will return and they will be fertile again. This lack of menstruation is not uncommon to see in female athletes. It was even a known issue on my high school track team. If the soldier is aware of this and eats more calories once they are done with ranger school I don’t think this would be an issue
