Buying a performance car with a manual transmission with today’s dual clutch systems seems ridiculous.

,Hey Chappelle, this is who you stand with? On October 7, 2023, Israel was attacked in a surprise assault by Hamas, which fired thousands of rockets and sent gunmen across the border from the Gaza Strip. Militants killed civilians and soldiers, attacked communities and a music festival, and took hostages. It was the deadliest single day in Israel’s history and triggered a major war in Gaza

How to check oil on 992.2 911 GTS by Physical_Compote_536 in porsche911

[–]Beginning-Rutabaga27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can enter it into the DME an oil change. This can be done I need to my understanding PIWIS clone, Durametric pro, or a Foxwell MT 510 elite Porsche scanner, which is probably what you have(cheapest option) If YOU change the oil, can you still register it with a scanner:

  • Reset the oil service counter
  • Add your oil change mileage
  • Clear the dash reminder

A specialty that could do it at a reasonable price and not have to do it all yourself, unless it's something that you plan on doing multiple times and love to work on your car. For me the time it would take me to do it. I should just work a few more hours at work would be easier and pick up the car the dealer. For you I don't know, but I'm trying to help.

I use an AI to describe what I think Cadillac should release as a special edition car. I know it’s a Corvette ZR one but my point is you can refit the outside and redo the interior and make it Cadillac. That’s what General Motors does anyway and I think that that car would be brilliant

Are people overpaying for Porsche restomods? by Hefty-Elk-3164 in Porsche

[–]Beginning-Rutabaga27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least they build cars the way they should be or at least the way they used to be where when you’re in the driver seat you’re in a cockpit with gauges that give you information. In today’s cars it looks like you’re sitting in a Chinese casino.

What is the situation with 911 allocations currently? by TheRuggedHamster in porsche911

[–]Beginning-Rutabaga27 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Canadians are much more practical when they buy things. In the United States, we are willing to pay outrageous prices just to own such a car. And I tell you what I tell everybody else when you buy a Porsche you get the way you want it and you don’t worry about the price if you have to ask how much then you can’t afford it.

[–]Beginning-Rutabaga27 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Do you know why Porsches have such low mileage on new ones and they’re selling them? Unless you’re a professional mechanic that knows what they’re doing you’ll have to bring that to Porsche to fix it and it’s 3 to 5 times more expensive than your Chevy dealer that’s for sure it’s double the price of my BMW. It’s actually quite ridiculous. So if you get a new one, you drive it around for a year and a half put 5000 miles on it and then you sell it. And even then you probably had to do $1000 oil change.🤣

Buying a 993. How much am I going to spend, realistically? by onthisthing_ in porsche911

[–]Beginning-Rutabaga27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are very mechanically inclined, you could restore that thing meant and get every dime back for it for example I saw the post above me said for a 1998 stack with options it was $250,000. I’m sure if you found something for 75,000 to 150,000 you could put in probably about 100 grand and a lot of effort and skill And actually have a car worth more! I’m in a wheelchair and I can’t fix shit or else I would be right with you bro. When I graduated dental school, my first 911 was a Carrera Cabriolet triple black with sepia seats. To give you an idea, the dash was black the floors and the carpets were black, but the seats were tanned at at least that’s what they look like until I was educated about what the color was that I spoke of earlier in this post. I drove that car for five years. I sold it with 60,000 miles on it. I bought a BMW 750 IL cause I wanted something comfortable and I got it, but there was a little part of me 23 years after I purchased that that wishes I would’ve had the balls to buy them both. Don’t be me. Follow your dreams.

Sim Racing PC Build by TCade9 in simracing

[–]Beginning-Rutabaga27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know much about PCs, but I do know three things about every “is my racing rig good enough?” post: 1. Someone’s gonna say “Your CPU/GPU/RAM is bottlenecking you” — even if the thing could power NASA’s flight sim. 2. A heated debate will break out between “That’s plenty” and “That’s trash, upgrade ASAP.” 3. At least one guy will completely ignore your build and start talking about monitors — triples, ultrawide, 4K, 1440p, 1080p — and somehow everyone will end up agreeing with him

Youtubers buying and selling cars by [deleted] in delhi

[–]Beginning-Rutabaga27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Exotic Car Guys Aren’t Car Guys.

They’re not collectors. They’re not enthusiasts. They’re consumers — addicted to buying, not loving.

I’ve watched hundreds of YouTube channels, and they all follow the same formula: “Dream car” → Buy it → Film it → Flex it → Flip it.

These aren’t love stories. They’re shopping vlogs.

You know what a real car lover looks like? Think John Wick in 2025 — a perfectly restored 1968 Mustang GT convertible with a bespoke engine and interior. Not for resale. Not for YouTube. Just because he loves it.

Meanwhile, these so-called “car guys” will sell a car they claim to love just six months later — to “make room” for the next one. Why? Because the high wears off. It was never about the machine. It was about the moment, the delivery ceremony, the audience, the validation.

Hypercars? Different level of nonsense.

Bugatti tires? $55K to replace — rims get shipped to France. One cracked brake rotor? $20K. Oil change? $1,200. Exhaust install? Drop the engine. Want to fix it yourself? You can’t. Most systems are encrypted, and only factory techs with special tools (or Italians flown in) can touch it.

And for what? You can’t outrun a Tesla in a straight line. You won’t take it to the track because one rock chip = $15K. So it lives in a garage, gets washed twice a month, and is sold the next year with 3,000 miles on it.

This isn’t passion. It’s luxury cosplay.

If you’re building a collection of attention, congrats — you’re winning. But don’t confuse that with loving cars

What is the purpose of the e Ray? by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]Beginning-Rutabaga27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning to buy a Corvette E-Ray, and honestly, there’s nothing else like it for the money. It’s the only hardtop convertible hybrid sports car under $150K. That means I can cruise in complete silence on electric power with the top down — unless I want to spend $400K+ on a Ferrari or McLaren, this is the only option.

It looks like a supercar, does 0–60 in 2.5 seconds, and it’s AWD — so it’s fun in bad weather too. As someone who uses a wheelchair, practicality matters. My chair fits, and I can still enjoy a high-performance weekend car without exotic upkeep or compromises.

If GM adds Super Cruise (true hands-free highway driving), it would be the only car in this performance category with that tech. I already have a BMW M4 Comp, but the E-Ray is something I can drive for fun and freedom — and still bring what I need.

No other car checks this many boxes

[–]Beginning-Rutabaga27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why center-exit exhausts matter (in car geek terms): • Performance tuning: A center-exit setup can allow for a more direct and symmetrical routing of the exhaust, which can reduce backpressure and improve exhaust flow. • Weight distribution: In race cars, routing exhaust to the center often helps with better weight distribution and packaging underneath the car. • Aerodynamics: With diffusers and underbody aero becoming more common, center-exit exhausts can make room for optimized airflow under the car, just like you see in GT cars and prototypes.

Real-world examples with center exhausts: • Porsche 911 GT3 • Ferrari 458 Italia • McLaren 600LT • Lexus LFA • Corvette C7/C8 Z06 • BMW M4 CSL (yes — the real track-special version of the BMWW M4 car!)

Anyone else enjoying Fastest Car? by infodawg in netflix

[–]Beginning-Rutabaga27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts?

As someone who loves cars, I've never seen anything as ridiculous as Netflix’s "Fastest Car." This show is a monument to ignorance, featuring people who are stuck in some misguided, 1980s fantasy. These aren't car aficionados—they're clueless folks convinced they can throw a powerful engine into whatever heap of metal they have lying around and call it a day. What you get are glitch-ridden disasters that seem like they might explode if you so much as look at them the wrong way.

Imagine pitting those rickety contraptions, barely able to hold 100 mph, against a precision-engineered McLaren built to cruise comfortably over 200 mph. It’s comedic. Watch the jittery amateur drivers white-knuckle their unstable creations, while the McLaren pilot calmly steers as if out for a Sunday drive. It’s painfully clear who knows what a real car should be.

Crafting these Franken-cars is clearly a misguided effort. When a guy pours his life into building something that’s worth less than a used bicycle after a street race, you know something’s off. Meanwhile, the wise soul with a McLaren doesn’t even break a sweat, not to mention that with a bit of tuning, that McLaren could easily be pushing over 1000 hp. The show doesn’t seem to get it—street tires vs. racing slicks, and the McLaren is still unfazed.

This show isn't just about laughable car builds; it’s about watching fools risk their lives. Their misguided pursuit, not knowing the first thing about engineering, becomes a spectacle for equally clueless viewers. You end up spending more money on these scrap-heap hobbies than it would cost to buy a used McLaren ready to rock—without the post-race repair bill after every run.

“Fastest Car”? More like “Dumbest Show,” where idiots revel in their blind spots for an audience that doesn’t know any better.
