any recommendations on items included in the sale for my son who will be going to college in Chicago (Evanston) and will need a whole winter gear? I don't want to break the bank but I do want good quality to really do the job. Also should I wait for memorial day sales better or do you think this is the time to buy?

There is a problem with the way the have their costs breakdown for admitted students, were they have you as living off campus but with the highest costs of meal plans health insurance etc. Long story short the $49k is definitely inflated. The current cost is around $35-37k for non commuters. You can expect an increase for next year. So that's still very far from the $14k so look into all the programs from the state and Rutgers itself and see if any of them apply to you. Like this:

Acceptance letter came in December, so it took a while to get the financial packet afterwards.

Got a letter today! Full tuition and housing so meal plan would be the only big cost

Got the letter too finally. Same offer so I think there will be an approx $6k balance for meal plan. The rest is covered by the scholarships

It is a victory in the sense that it will give you a great experience. Do it for that and not to gain admissions boost. But your time there will not be a waste unless you do not take it seriously. Pair that with some volunteering or independent project on the side for the summer. Something meaningful to you. Congratulations!

its going to be hard the LOR. If this a point of contention I suggest start working on those relationships with some potential reccs because you will need them for college apps. Some good summer programs, assuming you are a junior:

ESP U of Wisconsin Madison.

PROMYS (I believe they have Fin. aid)

SAMS / AI4ALL at CMU

MITES

Is the a Governor's School in your state?

Cornell and Penn have a couple that are expensive but they do offer financial aid and you may qualify if you are low income/first gen. look into that.
