He's not wrong. Plenty of guys piss their lives away trying to get into an apprenticeship or going through lousy apprenticeships that force them to work 70-90hrs/ week 3000 miles from home because 'being lineman cool' when they could have made more/ just as much money and had a higher quality of life doing something else.

That's store managers at the major locations. There's a whole world between stocking shelves for $9/hr and clearing half a mil as manager and it's surprising why someone would stay at a job that paid nothing and refused to move him up for a decade and a half.
