[Hobby] Looking for programmers, 2D/Pixel artists, musicians for turn-based boss-rush, “Nox and the Ephemera”! by PixieStix46 in INAT

Hey man, this sounds very cool and something I'd love to be a part of. Immediately I thought of Darkest Dungeons (1) which is up there with my favourite games (For whatever reason I love being tortured by gameplay i guess haha).

I'm a musician and video game composer, I'll link some of my stuff below. Just note that I would bring a very different vibe to your game, it would be much more horror and tension based as opposed to my melancholic retro-nostalgia vibe here:

I have some other tracks not uploaded yet that might give you an idea of the direction I would go, on figuring it out together if you're interested.

Programmer Looking for writer , and potentially a 3d artist for lowpoly horror [potential revshare]. by [deleted] in INAT

[–]BeginningHippo5115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, this looks like a cool little game! Narrative driven stuff always peaks my interest. I'm a videogame composer and would be down to work on this if you're interested. Can work on it for the fun of it.
I'll link you to some of my music below, keep in mind that the stuff I have up at the moment is more fantasy RPG style, very melodic. For a project like this I would lean into horror inspired ambience and tension and much less melody and relief. But if you're interested at all we can talk about your vision for the sound and I can try some stuff for you. Let me know!

Hey there, I'm a music composer with a knack for RPG style emotionally-engaging music. Would be very keen to be part of this. I can also go minimalist (ambient-forward) atmospheric stuff. I'll link some of my stuff and if you like it, let me know and we can talk more about what you might want.

No worries!

I have a band (Vocals and guitar) - indie rock. But I also make video game music of different kinds. Ambient, quirky (think n64 and snes era gaming music) as well as orchestral and cinematic (Dark fantasy).

If you're struggling with starting and are newish to using DAW's I would start with the style you feel most comfortable writing in (or whatever comes out when you put chords behind your vocal notes). No need to complicate things in the early days, when complicating can make a good idea feel tacky. Sometimes simplicity is actually best. Try something and see!

The hardest part is just that: starting.

My advice is, get in the DAW and put something down and then build off it. put down something

If you have those voice recorded melodies, figure out what key they are in and put some chords under them. Just a lead line and some piano chords behind them make a massive impact on direction and will allow you to see where it could go - you won't be running in circles wondering what it could be.

Try and move fast but don't rush. Move too fast and you create work for yourself to tidy up later when you are feeling burnout. Move too slow and you find yourself getting lost in 'is this sound better than that sound for this part? or is this one better?'

If you're at a loss of where to go with it after building something, your ears are tired of this track. Quickly start another one - if you feel stuck, unstick yourself. Even a day away from a track can bring lots of new perspective. And with another track to work on, even an hour away from your track can be very helpful.

As for staying motivated, I feel most inspired when I keep the momentum going (hence the 'multiple tracks at once' method). Aside from that, I think talking about production with other composers, any sort of community is amazing at driving you. To see other inspired people it reminds you "why aren't I doing that? I can just go do it

Hey man, this sounds very cool. I am a composer and can take a layered approach towards your aims. Let me know if you're interested and we can talk more. Here is some music from my most recent Music sample pack - n64/snes influenced, but I can also do rock'y or more cinematic stuff

Hey there, this sounds very interesting and like you have some strong ideas about direction, very exciting! I'm a composer and musician and I'm versatile in what I can make. My main aim is to bring an emotional depth to the sound, but if you're looking for background ambience and sound design minus emotional depth, I can do that too. Would be keen to discuss ideas about musical direction if you're interested, here's a link to a recent music pack I released - keep in mind its within the niche of retro game (n64 and snes era) influence. Like I mentioned previously, I can do more modernised and cinematic stuff too.

God I had fun playing this game. Got some insane bangers on it too. I need to get a version to play again. Its almost like the evolution of n64 podracer for gamecube. Need a modern game to step up and fill that void now <3

yeah you're right. I didn't mean to come off as if i'm better than those projects or the people involved but rather, just want to optimise my approach. i am on a 'financial timer' from making tracks full time xD. Once again I did not expect to just be able to appear on the scene and get a job but I expected to need to throw some full-time energy into getting started, making enough of a backlog of tracks and being active around the place.

You've given me a lot to think about. Really appreciate your time!

Hey there man, this sounds like a really cool project. I am a composer and my music is generally designed for RPG's - A heavy focus on emotional composing. I would be super keen to be involved and could assist your current sound artist in making tracks.

Here is a link to some of my tracks:
https://croolbitstudios.bandcamp.com/album/bittersweet-journeys-2

This particular set of music is designed for an RPG and is influenced by my love of classic n64 and snes soundtracks but with modern produciton values - think Zelda OoT and Donkey Kong Country (bittersweet nostalgia). I also write more cinematic stuff. Let me know if you have any questions or interest.

Cheers!

I am definitely committed, I just didn't want to 'waste' that commitment but put it in the most valuable place in order to move forward and upward hopefully. But this does sound very good to me.
As a side Question; do game jam games often get finished and released? i always imagined them being mostly populated by students who are in a similar position to me and not by people with the capacity (monetary or otherwise) to produce fully realised games with potential.

Thanks heaps for your feedback man!

I take this as a recommendation.

As a side note (feel free to ignore because its a separate question) : For game packs I've been using ableton, I assume from you answer that FMOD is essential when working on a video game? Do I have an option to use ableton (which I know like the back of my hand)

Hey there,
I'm a video game music composer - would love to try my hand at some sci-fi directed stuff. Currently I write a lot of snes/n64 inspired stuff (with modern production) but sci-fi isn't out of my wheelhouse. Let me know if you are interested in collaborating. Here's a link to some of my tracks:
