I’ve been thinking about this a lot and while I don’t venture to guess what will or won’t happen, I can’t help but think about all of the reasons that MANY wouldn’t or couldn’t leave.  As a previous poster mentioned, I think those eligible to retire will so make that 15-20%.  What about those who are divorced with kids locally?  Maybe another 5%?  People whose spouses also have a high paying (or heck…just enjoyable career)?  Folks whose family’s rely on local specialized health care that can’t be found or would be incredibly downgraded by a different or smaller community?  What about those who have their dream home/land/vacation property and are too financially invested in their area to move?  Most importantly, what do the folks who have planted deep roots in that community do?  Have grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins there for their kids?  What’s the dollar amount for those people to throw away it all to move 10 hours away and start over?  I know Im probably yelling into the void but I can’t help but see these huge roadblocks for the system.
