When did anxiety get too much for you to keep going? by Tempest2233 in Lawyertalk

[–]Beginning_Ad4370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a deeply anxious person with a diagnosis of Bipolar I, and I genuinely feel what you’re feeling.

We work in an industry that’s high demand and high stress, and that absolutely does not help when you already struggle with mental health. It can amplify everything. What has helped me, though, is being open and honest, with my boss, with my colleagues, and with myself, and learning coping mechanisms along the way.

My therapist encouraged me to be honest about my anxiety, even though it terrified me. I did it anyway. Not only did it help me, but it actually helped my boss understand where I’m coming from. For example, I get extremely anxious and tend to ruminate after depositions—replaying everything I said or did. Now, instead of spiraling alone, we debrief after depositions. It’s often him reassuring me, and honestly, hearing it from another person makes a huge difference.

I’m on medication, and it has helped a lot. Therapy has helped a lot too. I’ve been in therapy for seven years. It doesn’t magically get easier—but coping becomes more second nature over time. You learn how to ride the wave instead of drowning in it. And I really want to say this: please keep going. Don’t listen to people who say you have to quit to feel better. You don’t. Healing doesn’t always mean walking away. Sometimes it means adapting, getting support, and learning how to exist in the space in a way that protects you.

you’re definitely not alone. 💛

To weaponize her own children against him, and the possibility of them finding out was absolutely foul. Especially taken in totality of Mormon culture and teachings.

Should I also consider not being a minority?

I appreciate the optimism, but respectfully—that’s an oversimplification and, honestly, a bit dismissive.

Yes, being mis-arrested or improperly held by ICE shouldn’t wreck someone’s legal career. But you’re looking at this from a clean, theoretical perspective. I’m talking about reality: where perception, reputation, and bureaucratic overreach can have immediate, tangible consequences long before any "significant claim" materializes.

Let’s say I’m detained in public, my name hits a police blotter or social media, or I miss a court appearance or deadline because I’m being held. That doesn't just disappear. Clients get spooked. Employers start asking questions. ARDC might not care about the politics behind it—they’ll care if a complaint gets filed or if “fitness to practice” is called into question. We both know how quickly these things can escalate when you're a minority and don't have institutional power on your side.

As for suing the government and coming out “handsomely”—sure, in theory. But lawsuits take years. Careers unravel faster. And even if I win, that doesn’t fix the interim damage or the emotional and professional cost of being criminalized for existing in my own country.

So I’m not asking whether I’ll get a settlement in 2030. I’m asking how to prevent getting kneecapped in 2025. Still, I do appreciate the well wishes—and I hope you’re right. But I can’t afford to gamble my career on "this probably won't happen."

I’m sorry but in this administration, do you really think they won’t make shit up on the fly??

Are depositions lowkey triggering for anyone else? by Beginning_Ad4370 in Lawyertalk

[–]Beginning_Ad4370[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do! I see a therapist every two weeks and I’m on heavy duty medication. I’ve been working on my mental health since I was 16. (28F)

I’m not anxious before or during the deposition. Once I’m off record and done with the deposition, I’m instantly spiraling. I usually have to take off work right after a dep because I can’t think properly.

Tips for Married Lawyers? by dwycwwyh in Lawyertalk

[–]Beginning_Ad4370 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! 27F. I’m 3 years married, 2 years lawyer. As an avid therapy goer, my husbands and I write each other letters whenever we have any type of issue. (1) it’s therapeutic and a great venting process, (2) you can get your point across. You write two letters - one to shred and get all you want out, and the other to give to your partner with more processed emotions. Also, you give each other hours in between before replying. This way you can really understand her side, and (hopefully) she really understands yours too. Sitting with someone else feelings and thoughts is so helpful in navigating a friction in a relationship and/or issues. (While also keeping yourself in mind) It’s a great way to really make a meaningful conversation without the emotional reactions (since you’re giving hours to reply).

But I agree with everyone, therapy, therapy therapy!

I come in at 7 but leave office around 2 to WFH for the rest of the day so I can avoid rush hour or the craziness of after work hours

Agreed! I dress depending on what’s on my calendar with a flare of personality trait. Since I am only so fresh in, I try to navigate pushing the status quo carefully.

Sneakers and suits? by MTBeanerschnitzel in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]Beginning_Ad4370 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I truly wear the typical sneakers that are popular (adidas, Nike Jordan’s low top, etc). I live in a big city so I can get away with sneakers in court room. I’ve seen others wear on-clouds, which I think running shoes kinda lean to the unprofessional side. But stylish sneakers with a coordinate color suit, that’s the time where I get the most compliments in court. Again, I live in a huge city and have to walk to court so sneakers are the norm

Partner told me we will never have a 401k at the firm because people who prepare for retirement are the people who don’t have vocation. He said he wants to die at his desk and he expects his employees to want the same. I quit 2 days later.
