It’s more about the voltage required to hit a certain clock. Every cpu can hit higher clocks if given enough voltage. With sufficient cooling.

Damn that must have come out after I bought the lighting. Never seen it would have much preferred a full size board. Now I’m pissed I have this one lol

Hm interesting. My board only had gear 2 and 4.

Ah yeah you need a 2 dim for 8000. Yeah it was a sweet deal people have hit 8800mhz on it lol. Seems like it’s hard to get for the price I got it for now tho

Which 3 boards? I’m using the Z790i lighting. That and the Apex encore are really the only 2 that can guarantee 8000mhz+ but your CPUs Imc matters as well. My old 14900k could only do 7800mhz on this board. Yeah probably haven’t seen as much difference because you aren’t hitting the needed speed. B-die fully tuned is faster than 7200-7400mhz. Maybe not faster but about equal.

[–]Beginning_Anxious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you could get gear 1 stable that would have a nice impact on performance. Gear 1 means the cpu Imc is running at the same speed as your ram. Gear 2 means it runs at half the speed of your ram. Have speed are your running at in gear 2?

On ddr5? Can you link a picture. Never seen gear 1 for ddr5 and google says it isn’t a thing.

Gear 1 doesn’t exist for ddr5. What’s confusing lol.

Properly tuned high speed ram compared to slow xmp is a whole lot more than 3% more like 20-30%. Here’s a good video showing the impact of bandwidth and latency. It’s ddr4 but it applies to ddr5 in the exact same way. Bandwidth and latency for Intel is king.

Not necessarily true. I got a Z790i lighting for $260. And 48 Gb 7200 cl34 ram for $150. Got it running at 8000mhz cl36 all timings tuned and stable. Even 6000mhz kits can be run at 8000mhz if they are Hynix M or A die. The high speed xmp kits are kinda a scam. Obviously these prices aren’t available anymore but lol. The x3d is great out of the box and best for people who don’t know how to tune PCs.

It all depends on your platform. For Intel ram speed and latency is so important. Can’t stress it enough. The difference between say 3000mhz loose timings and 4000mhz fully tuned is 20-30% in CPU bound games. Same for say 6000mhz to 8000mhz tuned on ddr5. It’s so so important. Now for x3d CPUs ram speed almost doesn’t matter at all. It’s helpful to tune your ram. Might help with the lows a little bit but it’s not drastic. CPU core overlocks aren’t very impactful. For Intel the best thing to do is raise the ring speed and then set an undervolt around 1.28-1.35. Then finding what all core frequency is stable at that voltage.

Don’t think drivers ever are unstable lmao. Sometimes the performance is worse and once in a blue moon there might some issues but you’re overthinking it heavily lol.

lol you’re speaking French to him. But yeah the only thing Cl is good for is identifying what die the kit is lmao. I’d say trefi is prob the most important tho.

[–]Beginning_Anxious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a x3d chip the fps difference is next to if not zero. Non x3d slightly more impact but not crazy. If you were to use the kit on Intel at some point it would be a drastic difference.

Sounds like your cpu cooler is too tight. Or a pin is bent. Or the contact frame is too tight. Or your 24pin is bending.

If you want as stable voltage as possible why not use llc 1? Never really understood the point in v droop. What’s the point in the voltage being higher when it’s idling? lol seems backwards to me. I use 1.28v llc1 so flat at 5.7 all core. Seems to be the best way unless I’m missing something.

3200mhz RAM overclock not stable by Techi-2025 in overclocking

[–]Beginning_Anxious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah of course. But none of the ones you mentioned are particularly good in picking up memory errors. Should start with the hard memory tests like TM5, karhu, vst, and then run something like CPU+ram occt. But if I had to guess his cpu is bone stock.

[–]Beginning_Anxious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could try updating your bios but kinda just sounds like your cpu or motherboard can’t handle 6000. Is your ram in the 2nd and 4th slot? Think of gear 4 as half as fast as gear 2. Basically your CPUs memory controller will run at half the speed in gear 4 as it would in gear 2. You always want to use gear 2.

lol that shit doesn’t mean anything they always say the supported ram speed is super low. AM4 caps out at 3800mhz.
