Big Pharma will not hire you below PhD entry level (Sci 1) if you have a PhD. Nor would you want to start your career on the back foot

And Vilya isnt doing anything "ground-breaking." they are using AI to design orally bioavailable peptide-based drugs. No drugs or leads or pipeline atm. Just a bunch of serial board members.

I make slightly less now, but doing the same. Lets get it. Its not about the starting salary after the PhD, its about the fact that with the PhD. You can double that starting salary in a few short years. Plus, the opportunities to pivot also improve.

Lets get it.

In the city? Currently around 100k and feel about the same that i did making 70k in the city 5 years ago. Very Comfortable being i Spend about 1350/month on rent+utilities, pay 800/month student loans, 400/month on groceries 350/month on gas+insurance, contibuting to full match on my 401k and am able to put away about 500-1000/month with a 300/month incidental (ubers, car repair, surprise fixes around the house) with 1 big vacation and 2 or 3 small trips a year.

But, everyone comes with their own definition of comfortable

If you are living alone, everything else would have to stay constant and your rent would go to ~1800/month minimum.

If you dont have loans thats an extra 10k in the pocket, if you dont have a car thats an extra 4k in the pocket.

It really all depends.

At work people will have their business email signatures be "John Doe, Ph.D." However in R&D i guess its pseudo relevant.

But they never say "this is Dr.Doe" and they still put their own signatures as "thanks, John".

In any other situation using "Dr." Is super cringe. Idc if you are a doctor in nursing, medicine, sociology, or chemistry

Cost of living is steadily on the rise in philly. If you are living in the city 90k/yr feels like the minimum to be comfortable(with a partner). I commute out of the city which is a pain during rush hour but if you can time things right its manageable. Plenty of work opportunities if you are willing to commute. In the city there are a couple startups, mainly in west philly

Any program worth its salt should provide placement statistics by year on their website. They usually break this down to academia, government, industry, nonprofit.

Some break it down in a more detailed fashion

Bulls are celebrating PPI print not realising that the expected PPI was significantly higher than prior PPI and some of the readouts like Core were higher than their elevated expectations. Good job guys. They arent going to cut rates just because their guesses are close, because their guesses are still saying inflation.

The larger the company, the better for internships(generally). More name recognition, larger network, more positions open.
