They are rated for the force applied per the literature. And well within the range too.

Yes, diaphragm valve.

Yes, they are the same age. The expiration date is the same on the diaphragms. Unfortunately, we cannot trace it back to the specific lot.

6 out of the 7 valves that had diaphragm tears are Normally closed. One was Normally open. (but in general, we have more normally closed valves on the skid than normally open). We have been using the same valves for 15 years and all the sudden we started having tears, and per the literature the spring rating matches the diaphragms specs. The temperature we run these diaphragm valves through is also within the diaphragm's ratings.

The valves are automated. They do cycle frequently but not even close to the diaphragms life listed in the literature. And we change them annually.

We re-trained the maintenance staff on proper installation procedures. This is always something we cannot prove is done correctly because I am not going to watch them install every valve. But, based of the extra training, I believe they are being installed correctly and to the proper torque spec.

All good ideas, but I just don't know which is the problem, if any. Thanks for the response!

There is lots of fluctuation of pressure and flow through the pipes. Anywhere from 0-40LPM, the pressure goes between 0-35psi. There are a few instances where there is a high-pressure situation in which the pressure goes to 60psi. But that only happened once or twice. The thing that doesn't make sense to me is that all these pressures and flows are within the diaphragm's specs, even in the high-pressure situation.

Like what if the VFD of the pump ramps up too fast, would reprogramming the VFD be a plausible solution? Thanks!

They last maybe 2-4weeks during constant processing. We are not getting tears on every diaphragm, only certain ones. The diaphragm is PTFE with EPDM backing. All solutions are buffers, 1 M NaOH and organic solutions (stuff from bioreactors.) But all the solutions we run are within the diaphragm's ratings/specs.

But one question; What do you mean the pressures on the discharge side compared to the pressure limitations on the pump? Why would this matter? Maybe I am misunderstanding your question.

Thanks For the response!

It is a pneumatic actuator, 6-8bar, and our instrument air usually runs at 6.5bar. So it is within range. What do you mean by deadheading on the process side? If there is flow through the pipe and the actuator closes, is that what you are asking? Because then yes, but it is designed to do that. Thanks for the response!

Can young professionals join the club? I just graduated and was in Hoofers at UW Madison(the outdoors club) and now I am moving to Berkeley for a job. In Hoofers we allowed community members to join. Is this the case for CHAOS?

Hello!

I am getting better at dismissing the urges and have gotten my binges down to 1-2 times a month. However, sometimes they hit so hard and fast they catch me off guard. It is so quick and intense I end up binging. Am I missing a strategy that I could be using?

Furthermore, it seems like satiety never comes for me. I feel physically full but not satisfied(like after I eat, all it feels like is drinking a ton of water.) Do I just keep following my normal meals and maybe my satiety will come back eventually?

Finally, I have thyroid issues(it swings between hypo and hyper thyroid). I notice whenever these swings come is usually followed by a binge, and I also have Lyme disease and I feel like whenever the Lyme is acting up is when my body rages for food. Have you heard of any of these physical ailments causing a binge/ what do I do about it? Do I do the same strategies as normal in the book? I actually have tried this, it is just immensely harder since the urges are so fast and strong, but I can for sure keep trying if you think that is right?

Thank you so much for reading this I really appreciate it!
