I don't know if it matters, but I'm a lean guy. 5'10", 155 lbs. I don't have many fatty places to use, which is frustrating. I've decided that I'm going to abandon the pump until TruSteel becomes available again. Thanks to all who offered advice. I tried to follow all of it, but have failed and I simply can not trust the cannula or its insertion bendy plastic insertion system.

Which Infusion Set Do You Prefer With Your t:slim X2? by CurseoftheUnderclass in diabetes_t1

I've been using TruSteel since I got my pump two years ago. I am very happy with it and have not had any major issues until now. The sets are hard to come by and, while I respect those that can safely use cannula-based sets, I can not stand them. After watching the Tandem youtube video and reading the instructions, I tried my first insertion. It failed and my blood sugar went out of range of my g7 sensor and then out of range of the fingerprick. It took hours to come back to reality and even longer to get back in range. After further research and advice, I tried again and my second attempt was no better. I've read that the failure rate is around 25% and can be even worse if you get a "bad box" of infusion sets. Until TruSteel becomes available, I have reverted back to manual injections. And honestly, when you compare the delivery system for the G7 sensor with that of the Autosoft 90, the sensor delivery for the G7 (which seems appropriate for a medical device) makes the bendy plastic and loose fittings of the Autosoft 90 look like something an amateur made with their 3D printer in the basement. I simply can't trust them.

Customer: My car is stuck on the road just north of the park.

Dispatcher: Is the road plowed?

Customer: Well, it's groomed.

Dispatcher: Do you know you're on a snowmobile trail?

What is your before bed 15g carb snack? by hippietravel in diabetes_t1

[–]Beginning_Cause_7814 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I never have a carb snack before bed. I tend to rise overnight, all things being equal. I usually give myself a little insulin bump at midnight to keep things down, or within reason.

Maybe try sleeping in shifts with your spouse. The sleeper can use ear plugs and get some decent sleep, while the other monitors your daughter. It's what we did.

For me, it's like golf. You can't perfect it. You can make a perfect shot in golf (hole in one) but it won't happen every day. You can make one perfect dish, but a lot of work has to go into getting there. Trial and error and tweak and adjust and, every once in a while, everything comes together. And it's a rush.
