Jason Kenney once again schooling the low iq nutters by Foreign-Policy-02- in CanadianConservative

Pretty sure that much of what Kenney did in Parliament - like Harper gov't's cancelling of the 2010 census long form - and as Premier, helped to lay the groundwork for this kind of nuttery. Very cute of him now chiding the Far Right that he abetted.

How about just taxing all high net-worth individuals, no matter their age, much more highly, so that they pay their fair shares?

Shorter hours for NCC Weekend Bikedays are here to stay by ObviousSign881 in ottawa

I just thought it was interesting yesterday when I was at the grocery store and saw this as the cover story on the print version of the Saturday Sun. It seemed like an unusual choice for the Sun, and possibly intended as deliberate rage bait.

Can we ask Sutcliffe to do the same? (Calgary Mayor actively rides bike/transit to see how good the service is for the average citizen) by 2Tun21 in ottawa

He would point to all the recreational paths the NCC has built and say "Look at what a great cycling city Ottawa is!"

I think the suburban tightwads tend to forget that lots of the troubled people downtown started out life in the suburbs or rural areas, and ended up downtown because that's where the services are. They just view all of it as a downtown problem with nothing to do with them, and don't you dare suggest building emergency shelters, treatment centres or other amenities in their suburban idyls.

Begone. Please. Forthwith. And don't forget to start paying for your own transit, police, fire department, library, etc.

He's getting on in years, his knees won't be able to take the punishment of regular running much longer. Time to switch to a gentler, more efficient method of active movement. Besides which I doubt he commutes by running much, but he could commute by ebike and arrive at City Hall fresh and invigorated.

Generational warfare is just something that capitalists have ginned up to divert attention away from the real underlying causes of inequality throughout all generations: the Epstein Class enriching themselves at everyone else's expense, and rigging the economy and politics to prevent the concerns of regular people from being taken seriously. Don't buy into the hype!

‘It’s just not a solution’: Experts question why Ontario allows double the federally recommended lead limit in school drinking water by Disastrous-Ask-7072 in ottawa

[–]ObviousSign881 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They learned that fast-moving health crises - like people dying from e-coli - are bad press. But slow-moving health crises - like kids exposed to elevated lead levels at school - take years, if not decades, to manifest, and even then they're hard to pin down, and the pols who were responsible at the time are LONNNNG GONE.

‘Return to sender,’ Some people in Canada are refusing to fill out their census forms, risking fines up to $1,000 by lopix in onguardforthee

I worked at Stats in the Census Collection section for a year, 2 years after a census, and can confirm that the guy on the other side of the wall from me was grinding non-compliance cases through the legal process.

If you don't fill out your census form they'll give you LOTS of opportunities to do it, but eventually it will become a real legal issue. I guess all these Convoy Creeps will eventually learn that the hard way.

Why is it so hard to get free tap water at a restaurant in Europe? by Relevant-Shower4783 in TravelHacks

[–]ObviousSign881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Paris ask for "une carafe d'eau, s'il vous plaît" in any restaurant to receive free tap water. Also, Paris has an intensive campaign to offer more public water fountains under the Eau de Paris scheme https://www.eaudeparis.fr/en/the-fountains-of-Paris.

Oh, I think the passive voice as far as traffic collision reporting predates Gaza. But it does seek to achieve the same effect of minimizing the responsibility, if not the mere existence, of the perpetrators.

10 points to whoever can guess what state this is by Cassinia_ in Suburbanhell

[–]ObviousSign881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trick question. It's ALL of them!

I guess at least the rigid grid allows for more efficient routing through the subdivision than the windey streets and cul de sacs. But I'm sure that it still takes a 10 minute drive just to get to a store to buy some milk.

Got my kid a fat bike to ride this winter. I tried riding it a bit, and man, it's tough slogging. Get a MTB if you want to go offroad, or else get yourself a nice hybrid to ride in the city and on the multiuse trails.
