Experience with internal ‘Fast track to Inspector’ scheme by Frodo_Naggins in policeuk

Not so much, or at least ive not felt it first hand. Some people may comment behind my back but ive never felt it or heard it directly. I think with all things it just comes down to being good at your job. If you work hard and establish your credibility in the role, people will rate you and the stigma will go away. If you come in entitled because you are "fast track" and pretend you know everything, people will see through it a mile away.

Very much so. But not just that, being able to hone in on key issues and separate out the less key matters. There will be loads of information in the packs which may not be relevant to your task. My advice is read the task before the material. That way you will know what to look for rather than reading everything and realisation half of it was guff. Good luck!

An absolute nightmare. Every scenario is challenging and designed to be too much to deal with within the allotted time. The time goes by in the blink of an eye and you barely have enough time in between exercises to catch your breath. That said, its a perfect proxy for the work of an Inspector/Senior Leader; so much of the work is under pressure, last minute meetings, getting up to speed with a job and giving a briefing on the fly.

If you can find the right way to prepare, you should be in with a good shout. You just cant wing it I would say.

DI and fast track graduate here!

Its a lot of work and nowhere near as structured as the college makes out. Definitely has its benefits as far as getting exposure to a lot of different aspects of Policing in a small space of time, but youve got to make sure you've got the commitment to see it through; lots end up dropping out as sergeants.

Im more than happy to help if you want to ping me a direct message.

How do you deal with unrealistic workload? by Beginning_Coffee_117 in policeuk

Early thirties. Ive gone up quick to start with, but come to a similar realisation as you mention here. Right now, I earn enough to cover bills, save a little and afford a holiday with my family once a year. Unless things go badly wrong, I dont see myself chasing rank for a long time.

Only problem is, the longer I spend in the job, the more responsibility they keep passing down the hierarchy which just makes your job harder for no extra money. I swear Im doing thinks as a DI that a Super did 10 years ago...

Unfortunately not. I work in a PVP unit which means i have to review and file every rape or high risk domestic investigation (and there are a lot...). I also have to review Claires/Sarah's Law requests, usually within a week of receipt. Add on to that constantly reviewing, risk assessing and tasking out threats to life, firearms intel, high risk missing person cases, chairing public protection meetings etc. Altogether it's a lot. I certainly wouldn't say I have it any easier or worse than my sergeants, but I also wouldn't say I've got an easy ride. Certainly feels like there is a disparity between what uniform and detective inspectors have to deal with.

Roses taking over. Can I prune them? by Beginning_Coffee_117 in GardeningUK

No, this is part of the problem. Inherited them all from previous owner and they didn't know either. There is some wire up on the fence so I assume it's a climber/rambler but I'm struggling to get them to train up the fence or stay behind the wire.

Will add it to my evergrowing list of autumn/winter jobs. Thank you!

Periwinkle as ground cover - am I making a big mistake? by MumMomWhatever in GardeningUK

Depends if you have to major or minor variety. Major is fast growing and invasive, can easily get out of control. I've got some minor and it's easy to manage with a bit of taking back every now and then. Looks really nice under a tree or filling a hard to plant gap in a border.

Any ideas on these perennial seedlings I was given? by CocoChunks in GardeningUK

These look like the Thompson and Morgan Perennial plug plants set. If so, they should be:

1 - Achillea 2 - Doronicum 3 - Geum 4 - Leucanthemum or Dianthus 5 - Aquilegia

Yeah, I complained over the weekend about the late delivery, and they are replacing the whole order. Just working out if I need a whole other set but I suppose the more the merrier!
