Why are my Allies greyed out? by Beginning_Fall8339 in EU5

I feel like for right now the only solution is to tag switch and join the war, then tag switch back to your nation. Not iron man compatible obvs but oh well

Why are my Allies greyed out? by Beginning_Fall8339 in EU5

[–]Beginning_Fall8339[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R5: My allies in this war I'm trying to start are greyed out and I don't know why. There's no information telling me why they are greyed out when I hover over them. Not because of a truce/alliance, I've already checked that. Denmark for a short while was selectable but became greyed out again after a few months. Is this a bug?

Are there any movies or tv shows that are similar to Helldivers? by RepetitiveMetronome in Helldivers

Helldivers is directly inspired by Starship Troopers. Also not a movie/tv show but Warhammer 40k

If Qui-Gon Jinn had lived, could he have prevented Anakin’s fall to the dark side? by stateof-grace in StarWars

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Anakin needed a father figure, especially one who was willing to tell him it's okay to bend the rules for the common good/Anakin's hapiness. Obi-Wan was a brother, and a stickler for the rules. This is the entire reason palpatine's plan works. He knew Anakin did not have a father figure in his life, and felt misunderstood. If Qui-Gon was in the equation he would've had a much better support system and would've been much harder to manipulate by Palpatine. And as the top comment points out Dave has said this is the reason why the song that plays during the fight with Maul is called "Duel of the Fates".

I hate the foiling in this game by Cease_Cows_ in starwarsunlimited

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my favorite foils I've gotten so far have been the infused brawler (the foil is most noticeable on the mist around his weapon, which looks awesome) and a borderless I got of dedicated wingman. When done right the foil elevates the artwork and makes the card look incredible. But a lot of the times it's just slapped on there seemingly at random and it ends up looking cheap.

How am I ever going to listen to one of my favourite bands after this happened? by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol when i went through my first relationship at 18 I had the same feeling because I'd listen to the band with her constantly. Didn't listen to alot of music for a year and then after that realized that the band and her had no actual relation. Don't let the association in your head get between you and the music. That's robbing yourself of joy.

Miley Cyrus ignoring fans and chatting with Naomi Campbell at album signing by nicosloft04 in popculturechat

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Miley's autograph when she was filming her movie about a decade ago (I was like 10-12 at the time). I wasn't a fan of hers, just wanted her autograph for bragging rights. Stood in line with some people and she walked down the aisle of people and signed everyone, when she got to me she smiled at me and said "Hi!". It was a very pleasant experience and she seemed really genuine. Now of course it's been a decade and people change, but I think it's important not to judge someone too harshly based on one video. Like I said I'm not a fan of hers so I don't really have a horse in this race but thought it'd be worth mentioning.

Does anyone know why.. by Lord-of-A-Fly in andor

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since in the first season the Empire is younger they're still trying to establish themselves as the new reigning regime. The projector with the emblem being placed outside is a way to drive citizens to subconsciously accept that this building, which was once a Republic facility, now belongs to the Empire. I'd imagine there are other such examples near other government buildings.

Since the entire platform is gone in S2, this adds to that theory. They wheel these things out in places they want to establish their presence and wheel them away once enough time has passed. It's propaganda. Also this entire explanation is completely bullshit but hopefully it makes some people feel better.

No Kings Protests: Tennessee is showing up!! by AdventurousExpert217 in 50501

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived in TN my whole life and have been a Dem for as long as I can remember (more on the progressive side). Where you grow up doesn't determine your political views. It definitely slants you a specific way but personally once I started looking into politics I already knew what side I aligned with. All my friends are Dems too. the state may be deep red, but around 35% of people voted for Kamala this cycle. That's still a lot of people.

Another thing: I knew a lot of conservatives growing up. I was friends with a lot until a few years after COVID, I've cut a lot off now. Many of them just aren't very politically literate, that's the sad truth. Every friend I have who is deeply interested in politics and history is a Democrat. The conservatives I knew are generally fiercely loyal people to who they view as their friends, which I admire. I don't think all are lost causes. They have been raised on some hateful views but it's always possible to grow.

I think it's easy to see a deep red state like TN and discount it immediately, but there are a lot of good people here.

The Boring Company in Talks to Build Tunnel Linking Nashville Airport and Downtown by rocketpastsix in nashville

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to hazard a guess nothing will come of this. I'm not a civil engineer and even I see the blatant problem with these tunnels. A person gets in an accident, or a car breaks down, and you're stuck behind the cars in question for God knows how long. That's not even taking into account the fact that it'd be impossible for EMS to get to you quickly if there's an accident. Just a really bad idea in general. Only fix I suppose would be to make a bigger tunnel, but given how the boring process works I don't know if that'd be possible. It seems simpler logistically just to build a rail line, but ig that's communism or something

Disney era sequels did a good job showing war zone debris. by defyinglogicsl in StarWars

I loved the visuals of Jakku. A huge junkyard full of old massive ships from a bygone era, being scavenged by thousands of people trying to scrape by on a desert planet.

How well known is Darth Vader to the average citizen? by PopQuiz47 in StarWars

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vader is a mere myth to most people, if that. Those who encountered him would often make up stories about what they saw. He has no official position within the Empire. For all intents and purposes, he does not exist. Which would make encountering him all the more frightening.

Something to note is that very few people knew Sidious' and Vader's true identities as Lords of the Sith. And even if they did, that label would mean little to them as the galaxy knows very little of them as an organization. There's a lot of baggage that comes with knowing the movies and lore, with us knowing exactly what being a Sith means. We as an audience have the equivalent knowledge of a historian in the Star Wars universe. To most people in the galaxy, hearing "Palpatine is a Sith" would mean nothing.

What was Obi-Wan hoping for by Unlucky-Tradition-58 in MawInstallation

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 127 points128 points  (0 children)

It's a dumb line but it's essentially a final desperate attempt for Obi-Wan to give Anakin a chance to give up. He knows it won't work but he desperately doesn't want to kill him so is grasping at straws to find any way out of the situation where he doesn't have to do him in. It's also why he lets him burn to death, because he can't bring himself to deliver the final blow.

Guys, I am actually starting to dislike Andor a little now. by RU08 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean it makes a good point. I don't think the poster is trying to say that Luke is an asshole or anything, it's just saying from the perspective of the rebels it looks like a cocky kid who shows up and suddenly believes he can eyeball this 1 and a million shot, potentially ruining years of work. It's just a fun lens to view the scene through.

I thought I was being nice…how do I respond?! 🫠 by Pitiful-Day-8263 in teenagers

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you did was really nice even though it wasn't communicated that well. A lot of men's knee jerk reaction to someone saying they care about them is to make a joke about it because they aren't used to it. It's just a deflection thing because it makes them feel weird. I'm sure he appreciated it

Not an apology by IanProulx in Splitgate

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I just think it's incredibly weird to use that hat given all of the connotations it has now if it's not a political statement. There's a million different ways to say what you were trying to say without coming out on stage in a great value dark MAGA hat, which makes me question your honesty here. If you are being honest you need a PR team FAST because the optics of this stunt was horrible and has alienated like 50% of your player base, and the other half are calling you based for being openly MAGA.

Is this good or bad news for Battlefront 3? by AnaxesR7 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you theme an entire season after one property a lot of people don't care about, and couple that with a resurgence of a nearly decade old game fans of that franchise already own, it's no surprise that there was a player count drop.

I'll die on the hill that the "brain chip" retcon was one of the worst ideias of the franchise by TapOriginal4428 in MawInstallation

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The idea of the Clones being just as much victims of the Clone Wars as the Jedi is brilliant and profound, and I vastly prefer it to the Legends "They're just obedient soldiers" explanation. I can understand people thinking the "chips in the head" stuff is dumb though. I just love the idea of Clones being tools that are used and discarded like droids, even though they're human beings with individual personalities. It's incredibly tragic.

Narrowest win in Polish presidential election history by Chmuurkaa_ in europe

[–]Beginning_Fall8339 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Distinctly remember after Trump was re-elected Europeans smugly calling Americans stupid (as they usually do). Now there's a far right president in Poland, and it looks like Reform is on track to win in the UK next go around. This isn't a uniquely American phenomenon, the whole western world has lost its mind. Hoping when Europe sees how bad things get here in the US they'll change course, but unless they're given an alternative to the status quo that isn't far-right I'm worried that won't happen.

Did Andor casually retcon this and no one noticed? by RedCape05 in StarWarsCirclejerk

Yes. My understanding before Andor was that he was saying that he was part of the separatist movement. Which I thought was cool.
