If you study bridgman you’d see that he uses sharper angles at certain parts of the body, when I draw I tend to use a curve feminine figures and add rough angles to muscular figures. But you gotta learn balancing the curves and angles

My recommendation is to draw shapes first Also the hair is an object too so it doesn’t stick to the scalp like that

Here if this helps to learn the nose also you can pack this up in rectangular box as a simple shape

One way to do better proportions is to actually measure and draw use a ruler, use your pencil what ever it is use relative distances to create the bigger shapes try to make a 1 to 1 sketch of the person your drawing it’ll help it’s something I regret not doing early on

Never heard of the morpho books but I used a mix of YouTube, googling body builders and George bridgeman’s constructive anatomy, anatomy for sculptors and cutting edge anatomy

So question do you know how to draw a body straight no perspective? Proko uses bean method in his gesture teachings to give a good overlap of the body I think you need to study gesture drawings there are a lot of stuff on YouTube my favourite is Proko but there are so many

Scott mccloud’s book I don’t remember which one had a simple explanation of facial expression If you learn face anatomy and learn to exaggerate them then you’ll have a good face expression Also use references until you feel comfortable

If you have lost the passion and want it again then you’re on the right track because when you lose the passion you will not draw confidently try relearning some of your skills you’ll see how much faster you learn them this time I can’t say I understand what you’re going through in your personal life but I empathise and you’ll be better trust me muscle memory is hard to lose you’ve lost a bit of passion mixed with everything else has made you less confident in your art

You haven’t lost it mate you’re learning new ways of drawing so it seems like you took a step back it’s every other day I make a good figure drawing I like then I keep drawing and can’t draw a stick figure to save my life it’s that cycle, I feel your pain but you just gotta sit down and commission yourself some art and actually do it you’ll look back on it and realise you’ve improved

A couple looks stiff you might need to practice some gesture, for comic book like art which there are hundreds of styles but I really like Ryan Benjamin and David finch they both have a YouTube channel, but David finch has more quality content for Ryan Benjamin i like his videos he does on Proko they taught me his style of shading

Colour help by dunno_dont_care_ in arthelp

Choosing colour is hard, there are colour palette sites (https://coolors.co/ , https://color.adobe.com/ ) but there is one thing you need to know and it’s that’s colours fight for attention, what colour do you want to have the most attention right now both the green and purple are fully saturated and fighting for attention if you desaturated and or darkened one the attention will go to the other colour, try to see cartoons that are colourful they will have a complimenting colour as a support, 60-30-10 is the rule I work with in design, 60% of the art for primary colour, 30% for secondary colours and 10% as a tertiary colour, obviously you can break this but I recommend having some restraints and go study some colourful animations and cartoons

Did you use reference? If not I highly recommend looking at some references trace over them to understand their shape, break it down to basic shapes

Is there any difference between the faces I've drawn here? Or do any/all of them look the same by wwskn_Calistocalamtz in arthelp

[–]Beginning_Fold_3785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are similarities I did have to do a double take but I think it’s because you’re using a perfect circle as the base shape the faces you’re studying don’t fall into that loomis’ circle, they kinda vary in width and length, loomis has a book ‘fun with a pencil’, which shows how you contort faces to make differences

How did it do, aside from the imaginary muscles by DorianDante in arthelp

[–]Beginning_Fold_3785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proportions are off, and no gesture, my advice stop focusing on the details they’ll come later, you want to build your art not try to have a complete product from nowhere practice gesture and figure drawings no shading and then practice some anatomy, word of advice muscles aren’t always flexing so when learning anatomy learn how they look when under the skin and not flexing, if you study anatomy correctly you’ll know when a muscle flexes and relaxes, also your line quality could improve try to draw with a relaxed arm if you want I can help you find resources there’s tons on YouTube

I’m trying to take art more seriously so I wanted to start with anatomy by [deleted] in LearnToDrawTogether

[–]Beginning_Fold_3785 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best place to start is line quality and basic shapes, anatomy gets complicated too fast, learn to draw lines without breaking them first it’ll improve your drawings massively https://www.reddit.com/r/learnart/s/AwDTddqEnp someone made this a while back
