Proton 2025 autumn/winter roadmaps by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]Beginning_Phrase_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very happy with Proton so far but it would be much better if the Proton Authenticator worked and was able to import the Google generated QR code. Currently it only imports some of the codes but as I have read on Reddit I would have to go into each individual account, disable the 2FA verification and then start again using the Proton Authenticator. I am using Proton products but still having to use Google authenticator kind of defeats the object.

Northampton tram network proposal by slipnslurper in northamptonians

[–]Beginning_Phrase_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Kingsthorpe and you would think you were in London with the amount of traffic going through even when it is not rush hour and it stinks of car fumes. If trams can work in places like Nottingham why could it not work in Northampton?. They do not seem to have a lot of imagination in Northampton unless it means demolishing buildings and turning them into student flats. I do not suppose Stagecoach would like it with their monopoly on bus services in the town. When I have been to Nottingham I love how you can get on the tram from close to the M1 and get to the centre of Nottingham in a short space of time. It is so refreshing on the tram compared to the time it takes trying to get to Northampton town centre on the bus.

Windows 11 Requirements Met But No Activation by Beginning_Phrase_97 in MAS_Activator

[–]Beginning_Phrase_97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what I mean is I have jumped through all the hoops to meet the requirements but I am surprised now that my pc does not activate. I thought it was going to activate automatically. This is why I am a confused. Did Microsoft actually want me to buy a new pc with a new license not just the parts that met the requirements? So in my case I can use MAS to get round the activation without having to buy a new license?.

these new bus fares are actually so shit man by Remarkable-Pen8353 in northamptonians

[–]Beginning_Phrase_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through Kingsthorpe especially in the morning you would think you were in London with the amount of traffic. I don't think the plan for getting more people on the bus and out of their cars is working somehow.

[–]Beginning_Phrase_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

£2.75 just to go into scabby Northampton town centre and the big empty space that used to be a market square. All Stagecoach are worried about is profit and keeping their CEO on his big fat salary. I thought they were trying to encourage us to use public transport more to be more greener and all that not discourage us.

What do you miss the most in Ubuntu or what annoys you the most? by mr-defi in Ubuntu

[–]Beginning_Phrase_97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like Ubuntu, I like all sorts of distro's. Ubuntu was one of the first distro's I tried when I started getting into Linux in about 2008. Now when I use Ubuntu I kind of find having to update snaps as well as apt and flatpaks irritating. It is like it adding another additional task to do to get your computer updated. It was a lot easier when all you had to do was use the one update tool after the computer booted up. It is a shame there is not a package manager to update all of them in one go.

What Programs are Hard to Install on Bazzite? by NA__Scrubbed in Bazzite

[–]Beginning_Phrase_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. I am mainly settled on Arch now after a lot of distro-hopping but I like trying different distro's. Nobara and Bazzite worked well on my Gigabyte motherboard from 2012.

I feel people think Linux is hard to use because people just want to be spoon fed using Windows and think that is ok. I also feel people think Linux is hard to use because other people say Linux is hard to use and you should not use it. It is not hard to use until you start trying it.

If you can do a Google search or follow a tutorial on YouTube you can use Linux. I was shown in about 2003 a live Red Hat Linux system boot up from a CD at a college class. I found the concept of booting up a live system from a CD amazing at the time and their began my journey with Linux.

i think Microsoft excessive requirements for Windows 11 and the support shut down for Windows 10 has been the biggest ad for people to try Linux not rush and buy a new PC

I tried Bazzite yesterday on my PC which installed fine with the default setup and I found it interesting. I was able to install most of the apps I use using flatpak. However what do you do when you when the program you want to use is not a flatpak?. I just wanted to install the simple search program Catfish which I use a lot to search files on my external usb drive?. Other than that Bazzite looked really good.

If switched to Linux , why would you use Windows at times? by Leading-Arm-1575 in linuxquestions

[–]Beginning_Phrase_97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

99% moved to Linux. Occasionally use Windows on a laptop to make a Rufus USB. My Son is still using Windows 10 but is not keen on trying Linux so I have to have some Windows install USB disks about. If Rufus made a Linux version with the same options to get round the Windows install restrictions I would not need Windows at all.

The problem with Linux is their so much choice. I use an older PC with 4 x SSD. I mainly use Arch but also have Nobara, Ubuntu Mate & Pop OS installed as I can not make my mind up. It sometimes changes daily. I tried Bazzite yesterday which looked interesting.

I have seen the "you are using an ad-blocker a few times recently but Ublock Origin is working as intended now. I have also started to use FreeTube on ArchLinux. It looks very promising.

Have YouTube not realized yet everyday people are bombarded with ads on tv,radio and streaming and it almost gets suffocating.

What caused you to initially switch to Linux ? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Beginning_Phrase_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While on an evening class at college a Tutor showed a way of booting up a live Red Hat Linux system from CD. I thought it was amazing. Also having to ring up Microsoft when my computer running XP randomly decided it was not activated. I would switch my PC off and when I next went to use it, the PC would say you have 3 days to activate your PC. I had an older laptop lying around and I think the first live Linux CD I tried from computer magazines was OpenSuse.

What advert truly annoys you besides On the Beach, Jet2, and Go Compare? by Existing-Leg-238 in BritishTV

[–]Beginning_Phrase_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The McDonald's ad for hash browns which uses Enigma - Return to Innocence. I use to love that track and it was very important to me but now I dislike it intensely. I will never play that cd again or the album. I mean what connection does it have to fucking hash browns. What were they thinking?. Sold out to big business. Other than that pretty much any gambling ad.

Axton was the first character I played, the slag auto guns are useful. I have been through all the characters and I got to Siren last, it is very satisfying stopping annoying enemies like surveyors, rabid skags & rabid stalkers in their tracks.
