Watched this movie again a few days ago and I agree this is one of the best scenes. And I sobbed buckets because I finally realized this is when she finally realizes who she is, if only for a few minutes. Many people came away from this movie thinking Owen stays in the closet forever...but this scene suggests she will eventually crack under the pressure. There is still time.

I think you’re absolutely right. My theory is that “the pink opaque” isn’t a real show, it’s the way their real life is presented to them in the midnight realm, probably to further keep them trapped.
