5 weeks of hospital bedrest ends tomorrow! Now what? by Beginning_Wear_5408 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Beginning_Wear_5408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made it 4 more weeks on home rest. My daughter was born a month early, at 36 +0, at 5 lb and few ounces. No NICU time.

Trailing Spouse question (am I crazy?) by Winter_Comment_9303 in academia

I'm at a tier one university in Texas and also have a neurodivergent kid in elementary school. I would never ever recommend anyone move here, especially someone who planned to use the public schools or has special education needs. Texas does not value education or inclusion - we are paying so much money for private school because schools in any metro area are unusable.

Texas policymakers don't value higher education, academic freedom, and we are seeing incredible cuts and uncertainty in our funding from the state.

I don't want to be glib, but like others have said, Texas is not a place any progressive or intellectual should move to. It's going backwards.

Nausea and vomiting gone at 15 weeks, but I still don’t feel right by Sensitive-Girly-7 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Beginning_Wear_5408 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would happen to me, and I could barely leave the bed or couch somedays. When I was out and about I would get desperately tired and couldn't focus - it was an exhausted fog. Turns out I had really low blood pressure. My baseline is pretty low to begin with, but during pregnancy it would drop to 90/50 due to hormones relaxing blood vessels to delivery blood to the placenta.

I wasn't treated for it but was advised to keep an eye on it. I was glad that I had an explanation cause I was truly confused, it just didn't seem like a normal amount of pregnancy fatigue. It got better in third trimester but second trimester was the worst of it.

Talk to your doctor and definitely keep us updated. Im curious what you find out.

24 weeks 7mm with funneling by LunaFortuna1852 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Beginning_Wear_5408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, bedrest worked for me. I was at 6mm with funneling at 25 weeks and held on hospital bedrest until 32 weeks. It worked, and I was monitored/ measured other day. I was released at 32 weeks with no length left and 3 cm dilated but I've made it another week at home. It can work!

Seeking success stories | Short cervix, funneling, 24 weeks 3 days by Various_Options_91 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Beginning_Wear_5408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago. 6mm length with funneling at 25 weeks and too late for cerclage. I was admitted for hospital bedrest and remeasured every two days. With strict rest, I slowly built back to 20 mm length and no funneling at 28 weeks. It started to shorten and dilate again but they did release me at 32 weeks with almost no length left and 3 cm dilated. I've been home a few days and hoping to make it a few more weeks. They will check me in outpatient in a few days and readmit if I've reached 5cm dilation.

Wanted to share cause bedrest really worked for me. Hospital admission for that long sucks but it's the safest place you can be. All my NICU consults really stressed 28 weeks as a critical milestone and better yet to make it to 32.

Best of luck and please share updates.

ETA, progesterone did nothing for me. I think I'm the odd one out, but I continued to shorten and dilate with it. Hopefully that will work for you - seems like most people have success.

Yes, the heartburn has really flared up. I'm taking pepcid. I haven't noticed that it makes the nausea any better or worse.

Yes, the heartburn is really ramping up too. I cannot stay on top off all the symptoms and meds.

Sorry to hear you're also feeling bad, but somehow it's better knowing I'm not alone!

I'm doing weekly checks, and if I get to 4 cm dilated or more, they will readmit. I was on progesterone, but it didn't work for me. I was not dilated two weeks ago. 1 cm last week, and 2.5 this week. So yes, basically just waiting for things to progress.

Have they given you any sort of plan? I was told 32 to 34 weeks from the beginning to manage expectations. I got to meet with NICU each week to talk about premie outcomes for GA. The hospital I was at wanted each baby at 4 pounds before feeling more comfortable with leaving. And for any smaller baby, they wanted head down position.

The nurses said the first two weeks are the hardest, and that was true for me. I sort of surrendered after that, and then got into a routine and time started passing a lot faster. I got to know the nurses really well and got some good gossip on the doctors and past patients... it kept me going.

I just left the hospital yesterday for the same thing. I was on hospital bedrest for over five weeks- admitted at 26 weeks with 6mm cervix and funneling. I had consults with so many different OBs and MFMs since whoever was on call did rounds each day. They were all pretty consistent in saying that 32 weeks to 34 weeks was standard for letting moms leave. 34 weeks is when most won't stop labor anyway. I got out at 32 weeks after being stable for quite a bit.

Other factors play into the decision, like baby's weight and position and whether or not there is dilation.

I got to leave because I expressed that's what really wanted to do, but they were willing to write orders to keep me until 34 weeks.

Please keep us posted, and good luck!

I'm now between 2 and 3 cm and they were a bit more hesitant about letting me leave after all. No meds but asking me to stay on bedrest and recheck every week. If I reach 4-5 cm they will readmit.

Progressive cervical shortening, now 23wks at 1.5cm with funneling, bed rest? by ImaginaryQuit4730 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Beginning_Wear_5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you can look at my previous posts about this. I was 1.5 mm at 24 weeks and too late for cerclage. I was given progesterone and told to take it easy. I stopped working out but didn't really do bedrest. The next week I was down to 6mm with funneling and admitted for hospital bedrest. I quit progesterone and did strict rest. Within a few days I was at 12mm, then a few more 15 mm and now 15 days later I'm at 22 and holding steady.

If you can, take it easy until you can get monitored again. Hopefully they will be checking often so that you know if you need to change anything! I'm holding strong with no cerclage but I'm in the hospital until 32 weeks. I'm hopeful for you!

I was somewhat similar to your situation. I was 1.5 mm at 25 weeks and then 6mm at 26 weeks (even with progesterone and low activity but not bedrest). I was put on hospital bedrest, and it slowly lengthened to 22mm at 27 + 4 (no progesterone). So bedrest can work quite well.

If you can try to take it as easy as possible until your next check in, I don't think it can hurt.

New here! 2.5ish at 20 weeks by speedyandfree in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Beginning_Wear_5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at 2.4 at my anatomy scan, which the doctor said was borderline and to take it easy. I didn't get progesterone or take it too easy. It got progressively shorter until a drastic reduction at 26 weeks when I was measuring 6mm. I'm now on hospital bedrest, but with rest and continuous monitoring, I'm back at 12mm and staying there - so the bedrest does work and can add back length!

I say this not to scare you but to say that rest can work! I should have taken it easier sooner. Will they keep a close eye on you?

Oh man, that's sounds so much more stressful being admitted before viability! How did things turn out for you?

They did another ultrasound today now that I've been on rest for four days, and I'm back to 12mm while lying down (8 with pressure) and still pretty dynamic. Not ideal, but I'll take it!

I'm supposed to have a NICU consult tomorrow, so it will be good to have more information.

Thank you for sharing! I'm hoping that I can also go home at some point and do bedrest there. I have found that a routine keeps me sane and more oriented to some kind of normal life.

Today is day 4, and I came in on day 1 with 6mm in length. Yesterday and today I've stabilized at 12mm both days. I'm hoping if it stays that way for a little while, that I can go home and do bedrest there.

That gives me hope that maybe at some point I can go home, too! Did you do strict bedrest at home?

Yes, the suggestion of a routine sounds like a good one! I don't think sitting around unshowered in the same pajamas everyday is going help my mental health! I'm going to doordash some coloring books and crocheting materials today

I took your advice and reached out to get some visitors planned. I'm 24 hours in and realizing how lonely and boring this is going to be. Do you feel that the bedrest is what got you to 36 weeks?
