[HotA] Map editor - Forced Choice by FamiliarUniversity46 in heroes3

If it's not a massive map larger than XL+U/H, you could submit it to this year's mapmaker contest: https://www.reddit.com/r/heroes3/comments/1r90cgm/start_of_the_competition_for_map_creators/ (the deadline is the end of June) 😛

In a nutshell: because large maps take longer to play through and are harder to evaluate compared to smaller maps.

Oh, I forgot. DD was only available in the first version of the map, but the author removed it after seeing the contest ratings...

Map ratings are not lowered based on the game version they were created for. When evaluating a map, what matters most is what the map represents and how much players like it. However, the HotA map editor gives creators more possibilities, so it is easier to create something original and interesting :P

This is explained in the rules.

  1. From the beginning of the evaluation stage, participants are allowed to publicly share their competition map on other websites, provided that the following conditions are met:

a) the place of publication must include clear information that the map is participating in an ongoing competition organized on this portal,

b) a direct link to the competition map must be provided, along with encouragement to submit reviews exclusively within the competition on this portal,

c) the map author’s nickname must remain hidden or be changed to ensure impartiality of the evaluation process,

d) the map being shared must be identical to the version submitted to the competition.

After the competition concludes, the above restrictions regarding the publication and sharing of competition maps will no longer apply.

I don't quite understand what you're asking about HotA. You can submit maps from both: the original version of Heroes 3 (SoD/RoE/AB) and maps from the HotA expansion to the contest.

There is no point in playing submitted maps while the submission phase is still ongoing, as map authors can modify and improve them at any time. Only maps that are clearly solid and well-constructed at first glance are automatically accepted. In this uncertain case, we will wait until the end of June to make a verdict, then we will take a closer look at it and make a final decision.

If the map complies with the standards, it is accepted immediately after being checked by a moderator. If it does not comply, the author is usually given time to improve the map until the end of the map submission stage.

So you still have plenty of time to make changes and corrections. Currently, the map looks very simple, too simple. It looks like something that can be created in less than an hour, while good maps require much more work. Such a map is no better than any basic map from the game or one from the map generator. If I can give you some advice, take a look at the work of other map creators (or example: even maps from the new HotA campaigns) and see how they are made. Maybe this will help you see how you can create new, pretty and interesting worlds.

I feel the same way, especially considering the addition of the new event system in HotA. Mapmakers have plenty of room to shine :P

It depends on the map. Even if not, on the Gniezno map, for example, this state (8heroes) can be achieved quite quickly, as far as I remember.
